Chapter 36: Chapter 36: Unfortunately, I’m a Female with Balls
The sub-female stall owner at the next stall said, "Our City Lord’s son is the Army Commander of the Eighth Army of the Forest Corps, part of the Empire’s Second Legion. Seven years ago, he was called to the Border City to attack the Beihuang Empire. We’ve won now, and the commander has just returned to the city with the troops from Nantong City!"
Feng Si let out a breath and gently patted her belly, comforting the cub inside. ’I thought some dinosaur-like monster was attacking the city...’
"What?!"
Mao Qiu, who was next to her, jumped up in excitement. "Oh, Beast God! I’ve never seen a male beast from the Imperial Army before! They must be so strong and powerful! I have to go see them enter the city!"
To join the South Desolate Empire’s Imperial Army, a beastman must first test at the Intermediate level for Combat Power during the sacrificial ceremony. Only then do they qualify to study at the First Military Academy for seven years, ultimately becoming a powerful male beast soldier.
They earn honors on the battlefield, gain status, and increase their power—all for the sake of marrying a female.
For an ordinary sub-female, these were powerful Beastmen they could never hope to get close to in their lifetime.
This was the information Mao Qiu shared while desperately trying to drag Feng Si along to watch the army enter the city.
Feng Si looked speechless. "Since they only have eyes for females, there’s no point in us going to join the spectacle, is there?"
"Feng Si, you Little Sub-female!" Mao Qiu’s face was a mask of infatuation. "They’re the dream beasts of every sub-female! If we can’t have them, we should at least get a good look while we can! This is a rare opportunity."
Mao Qiu grabbed Feng Si’s arm with both hands. Before Feng Si could protest, Mao Qiu half-dragged her outside, shoved her into a flying car, and jumped in after her—all in one smooth motion.
With a cheerful WHOOSH, the little old car joined the convoy in the sky, which looked like a school of fish.
Feng Si sat in the back seat.
She held an excited little cat in her lap and sighed in resignation, leaning back languidly. ’Oh well, might as well see what the fuss is about. We’re here anyway.’
The balconies of the buildings lining the city’s wide main road were packed with a sea of excited faces, as crowded as a holiday train station, without a single gap to be seen.
The sky was filled with a dense swarm of flying cars. They came in all sizes, but they were parked in orderly rows, filling the air. The dark mass of them blotted out the sun, as if every Beastman in the city had poured out to watch.
They had arrived late and could only find a spot in the city center, unable to get near the main gate. Mao Qiu’s face was filled with regret; she wished she’d bought a faster flying car.
Feng Si leaned against her seat, tilting her head to look down through the glass.
A powerful, rhythmic stomping began, and the earth trembled in waves. As the glass of the flying car began to hum and vibrate, the son of Nantong City’s City Lord appeared with his army!
Horses, water buffalo, stags, and goats—all of them were enormous, as large as trucks. They were like monsters marching through the streets of the metal city, and with their every advance, the entire city trembled.
They wore matching, rust-colored iron armor. Amidst the thunderous cheers of the crowd, they marched with their heads held high, a lingering killing intent still in their eyes, striding toward the City Lord Mansion in the heart of Nantong City. The scene was utterly breathtaking.
This was the first time Feng Si had ever seen so many male beasts at once. Leading the procession was a bluish-black, single-horned water buffalo. Its burly muscles were starkly defined, coiling and tensing with every step. A single glance was enough to sense the immense power it held.
Watching the torrent of ferocious beasts marching on the ground below, Feng Si felt her scalp tingle with fear.
’They’re supposed to be common animals, but their size is far beyond the normal range. They’re like mutated beasts after an apocalypse, colossal beings that have become monsters.’
’It’s like being on a tiny sailboat in a vast, deep sea, with countless giant sharks swimming just beneath the surface, ready to swallow you and your boat whole in a single gulp.’
’This herd of behemoths are nothing less than terrifying, muscle-bound monsters. The mere sight of them is enough to stir a primal fear from deep within your soul.’
Feng Si pulled her gaze away. Holding her breath, she shrank back in her seat, refusing to look out the window anymore.
In stark contrast, Mao Ge, who was in the car with them, climbed onto her lap. The little cat propped its paws against the window, its small head craning excitedly to look outside.
Mao Qiu was doing the exact same thing, pressing herself against the window and screaming uncontrollably. "AAAHH!! They’re all so fierce! Their bodies are so powerful! If I could just sleep with one of them for a single night, I might get lucky and have a really strong cub—"
Feng Si: "..."
’This beastly instinct to select a strong mate... it’s just like what animals do in the wild.’ Suddenly, she wasn’t so afraid anymore.
"Get real! You can keep dreaming about that. The more powerful male beasts only want to marry females. Who would marry a sub-female just to have a low-level Beastman?" a mocking voice drifted from the adjacent flying car.
Mao Qiu’s eyes bulged with anger, and she shot back, "You wish you could have a cub, but you can’t, right? No way, no way... Don’t tell me you’re one of those sub-females who found a low-level male beast and can’t even bear a cub."
The sub-female in the next car retorted, "That’s rich, coming from you. You must be in heat and can’t find a male beast, right? Are you going crazy? The male beasts from the First Military Academy wouldn’t even look at you. You’re not worthy to lick their boots."
The vicious mocking laughter penetrated the window, and Feng Si turned her head to look at the car beside them.
The face of a middle-aged sub-female appeared in the neighboring window. Flanking her white mouse-like ears, a pair of small eyes filled with malicious glee stared unblinkingly at Feng Si.
"Just accept your fate. It’s your own damn fault for being born a sub-female. No matter how many coins you earn, you’ll spend your whole life as a—a sub-female who can never lay an egg."
"Bai Dan!" Mao Qiu’s fists clenched in anger. She desperately wanted to rush over and punch that disgusting face.
Bai Dan had heard Mao Qiu’s voice. She knew who Mao Qiu was working for these days, and the moment she pictured Feng Si’s face, the sting of her lost coins was a sharp, throbbing pain in her heart.
Because of Feng Si, she had lost her regular spot for her stall. She’d been forced to move to a new location, losing a huge chunk of her familiar, regular customers and causing her business to plummet.
’And Feng Si, the one who caused all this, was getting more and more successful. How was that fair?!’
She stared at Feng Si, her gaze full of malice. ’Her words were for Mao Qiu, but her real target was Feng Si!’
’Even a true female would be upset to hear such things. There wasn’t a single sub-female who wouldn’t feel heartbroken to be told they could never bear cubs in this life. For Beastmen, reproduction was a lifelong pursuit.’
’I’ll use the one thing a sub-female values most to twist the knife. I’ll rip her heart out.’
’Feng Si must be choking with rage right now, wanting to kill me on the spot.’
’Hahaha, but she can’t reach me. We’re in the air, separated by half a car’s length. Go on, get angry. Fume. I hope you choke on your rage.’
Bai Dan sat in her car, brimming with smug satisfaction.
Feng Si’s expression darkened.
"Don’t mind her. She’s insecure about being a sub-female, so she gets jealous of any sub-female who’s doing better than she is." Feng Si patted Mao Qiu, whose face was flushed red with anger. Then she shot Bai Dan a look as if she were garbage before turning her eyes away.
"She’s just a clown."
Bai Dan’s small, smiling eyes froze. Her breathing quickened. She hadn’t expected Feng Si to react differently from how she’d imagined.
