Chapter 57: Returning to Cang City

Chapter 57: Chapter 57: Returning to Cang City

Three exclamation marks were proof enough that Niu Ding wasn’t as nonchalant as he claimed. Now that the coins were spent, he frowned and relentlessly asked Feng Si what she planned to do.

"It’s a secret." Feng Si shook her head. The coins hadn’t arrived yet, so she kept her lips sealed.

After a little while, she checked her balance on the light screen and saw it had changed. Feng Si then looked up and said, "Just take the food and set off tomorrow. Leave the rest to me."

"What exactly are you going to do? What if no one in Pantian City has ever heard of Green Potato and pickled cabbage?" Niu Ding asked, frantic with anxiety.

"Just play it by ear. If people have heard of them, you present them. If not, just hold onto them." Feng Si glanced toward the door, feeling like she’d heard the faint chirping of a hatchling.

She had no intention of explaining the process anyway. The method she had in mind was something Niu Ding and the others had never seen before; they surely wouldn’t understand it, and explaining would take too much time.

Seeing that Niu Ding was about to press her further, an impatient Feng Si said directly, "If I can’t make Si Shi famous, when you get back, not only will I return your three hundred million coins, I’ll compensate you with another three hundred million. With a six-hundred-million-coin guarantee, the City Lord shouldn’t need to worry about the details anymore, right?"

That’s right. Use coins to solve problems.

It truly was a universal solution. Niu Ding, who had been anxiously asking questions just moments before, immediately fell silent. He then cheerfully left with his son and Yang Wen.

Once their figures disappeared into the elevator, Feng Si leaped from her stool. She flung the door open and rushed inside as if her life depended on it.

Thankfully, she had been hearing things. The Incubator was sitting safely in the middle of the bed, exactly where she had left it.

Her panicked heart only began to calm after she stared, unblinking, at the egg inside the Incubator.

It was a false alarm. Feng Si patted her chest, then turned to move the high stool from the hallway back to its original spot. After locking the main door and finishing her tasks, she returned to the bedroom with peace of mind and sat by the bed.

She turned her head to look at her egg, an infinite joy blooming in her heart. It was like taking a sip of strong liquor in the cold—a warm, light, and intoxicating feeling.

A mother’s love was truly the most selfless, fervent, and pure love in the world.

If there was anything that could make Feng Si choose to travel at the end of the rainy season, it was definitely something related to her baby egg.

「The next morning.」

Feng Si appeared at the base of the Thirteen Seats tower with a baby carrier strapped to her chest. She wore a large, waterproof black cloak, making her look like a pregnant woman from modern times with a protruding belly. It was clear she was about to embark on a long journey.

While mentally checking her inventory space to see if she’d forgotten anything, she tilted her head and looked up.

The torrential rain distorted the view of the metal high-rise. Against the gray, gloomy sky, the dark metal spire looked like a sharp tooth in the mouth of a colossal sea beast, mercilessly devouring everything that poured down from above.

Feng Si’s heart pounded, and she took a step back into the building.

She suddenly felt conflicted. ’Is it really a good idea to set out on a long trip in the middle of a downpour? But after this comes the extreme cold and blizzards...’

Suddenly, a dark shadow fell over her, and a gruff voice boomed from above, "Are you the sub-female who hired me to go to Cang City?"

Beneath her cloak, Feng Si’s hands tightened around the baby carrier she held.

’I want to give my cub the best of everything, but I can probably never replace a father’s love.’

’I have no intention of looking for that male beast.’

’After all, the modern news was full of horrifying stories about domestic violence and cheating. Now, I have a child, money, and no husband—this is the free life I’ve always dreamed of!’

’So—’

’The Jade Pendant is the only thing the cub’s father left for me. It might still carry his scent. It’s the only thing that will let my cub feel close to its beastman father.’

’Therefore, to buy back my cub’s father’s Jade Pendant, this trip to Cang City is absolutely necessary.’

’A lot of time has passed, and the Jade Pendant might have already been bought by someone else. But I’m rich now. Even if the Jade Pendant costs eight hundred million, I will buy it back!’

’Besides, based on my calculations, the egg should hatch in about three to eight days. The City Lord isn’t leaving until tomorrow, and there are still over twenty days for the food promotion. I can even put that aside for now.’

’In the next few days, I absolutely have to buy back the Jade Pendant for my precious cub! It will be a substitute for his father, staying by his side right after he hatches!’

Feng Si took a deep breath, instantly filled with courage, and replied, "That’s me. Let’s set off now."

The Beastman checked the online order with Feng Si: a rainy season trip from Nantong City to Cang City, one-way for fifty thousand coins. The order was accepted by Yan Kong, a Beastman of the Rain Swift Clan. The client, sub-female Feng Si, had already paid a thirty-thousand-coin deposit.

After Feng Si confirmed her agreement, she followed Yan Kong, who was two heads taller than her, outside. His carriage sat by the entrance. Without needing any help, Yan Kong easily lifted the truck-sized compartment and walked into the rain.

Feng Si stood in the doorway and looked up, watching the miraculous moment of a Beastman transformation by the street.

It stood there, a shocking three meters tall—the height of a single story.

Two massive, jet-black wings slowly unfurled in the rain, their four-meter span seeming to hold up the very sky. The dense raindrops pattered against the black wings, then dripped down from the tips.

One wing extended right to the top of the doorway. Shielded by Yan Kong’s wing, Feng Si walked to an automatically descending ladder and slowly climbed into the carriage. The ladder began to retract behind her.

With a jolt from inside, a Rain Swift carrying a carriage on its back shot through the rainy sky like a streak of black light, flying toward Cang City.

Feng Si took off her cloak, hung it by the door, and surveyed the interior of the carriage.

You had to admit, there was a reason the private, custom flight was so expensive. Compared to buying a single seat for eight hundred, this fifty-thousand chartered ride was cozy and comfortable inside.

Besides the door, the carriage had glass windows on the left and right. The rear half contained a low divan covered with a soft blanket; drawing a curtain turned it into a very private sleeping area.

Near the windows were two soft sofas and a small table. Feng Si walked over to the divan and sat down, pulling the dark blue curtain closed. She lifted a corner of her baby carrier’s cover, peeked inside, and breathed a sigh of relief upon confirming the egg in the Incubator was unharmed.

The gray blanket on the divan didn’t look dirty, but there was no telling how many beasts had lain on it. Feng Si took her own warm, white blanket out of her inventory space and spread it on top. Not daring to unstrap the baby carrier, she then lay down.

After two and a half days, Feng Si was finally back in Cang City.

The trip had taken half a day longer than last time due to the rainy season. She paid the remaining balance to Yan Kong, then hired a small, semi-open cart pulled by a sub-female at the city gate. Following her memory, she arrived at the little alley from before.

Dressed in her black, waterproof cloak, Feng Si got out of the cart at the mouth of the alley and, braving the rain, walked into the same shop she had visited before.
