Chapter 85: Chapter 85: How Could It Be This Simple

Niu Ding was finally at ease. The more he dealt with Feng Si, the more satisfied he became. She not only helped him earn coins but had also introduced him to so many delicious foods.

So, when Feng Si stated the purpose of her call, she said, "I want to get an Identity Card for my cub, registered under my name alone."

Without even asking about the cub’s origins, Niu Ding readily agreed. "No problem. I’ll inform Registrar Niu Wei immediately. Just have Yang Wen take you over to handle the paperwork."

After ending the call, Feng Si contacted Yang Wen. First, she instructed him to pull twenty thousand packaged cans from the warehouse out of the day’s outbound shipments and send them to their City Lord.

Then, she arranged to meet him at three o’clock that afternoon at the Government Building. With a City Lord like Niu Ding involved, the matter of her cub’s identity had indeed become much simpler.

Without a Contract or a birth certificate for her cub from the Sacrificial Hall, Feng Si had gone straight to the City Lord of Nantong City and resolved the issue of her cub’s official status.

But what came next made Feng Si feel an uncharacteristic nervousness.

Taking her cub out for the first time, especially during the cold season with its heavy snow and temperatures far below zero, made Feng Si anxious the moment she stepped outside into the frozen world. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

"We’re just going from the house to the car, and the car to Building Ten in the North District. Other than a few steps when we get out, we’ll be inside where it’s warm the whole time. We won’t be outdoors for long," Mao Qiu, who had made a special trip to accompany Feng Si, said reassuringly.

"You’ve dressed Yun Chi so warmly, and he’ll be in your arms. He won’t get cold. Even if he’s exposed to the cold wind, he’s a male beast cub. He won’t get sick that easily."

’I understand all that, but what mother wouldn’t be nervous about her little cub?’

’Still, as worried as I am about taking my cub out into this frozen world, I can’t let my little Yun Duo remain an unregistered person in the South Desolate Empire, can I?’

’I have to go!’

Feng Si, wrapped in a cloak with her hands protectively over her chest, scurried anxiously into the flying car parked on the upper-level landing. Her expression hardly relaxed.

Mao Qiu quickly slid in after her, taking the driver’s seat. He lowered his head and skillfully programmed the flight path, setting their destination: the Government Building, Building Ten, in the North District.

「Half an hour later, they arrived.」

A blizzard was raging, and it was frigid outside. Yang Wen hadn’t arrived yet when Feng Si got there.

She went inside the building with Mao Qiu, followed the directory to the sixth floor, and found a corner to wait. Only after she had warmed up a bit did she unfasten her cloak, revealing a small rabbit-fur pouch strapped to her chest.

The rabbit-fur pouch was thick, about the size of a handbag, and strapped to the center of her chest with cords around her neck and waist. A heavy piece of cotton cloth was draped from her shoulder over the pouch’s opening, wrapping it securely.

Carefully lifting a corner of the cotton cloth, Feng Si peeked inside. "Yun Duo, are you feeling okay?"

"SSS~" Golden eyes, glinting like actual gold, flashed in the sudden sliver of light. The little guy made a soft sound at his mother.

Having not been this close to his mother in a while, Yun Chi’s four little paws were stuck inside his thick clothes. He could only stretch his neck with all his might, craning his small head toward Feng Si.

"There’s a good boy, Yun Duo. It’s very cold outside, so you can’t come out right now, okay?" After gently cooing to her cub, Feng Si took off her gloves and reached into the rabbit-fur pouch, her fingers brushing against a warm, homemade leather water bottle.

After confirming the temperature of the cloth-wrapped bottle and patting the little one for reassurance, she withdrew her hand, pulled the pouch opening snug, and put the cloth cover back in place.

Cradling the rabbit-fur pouch that held Yun Duo, Feng Si looked up and began to survey her surroundings.

This was the Government Building for Nantong City. Since the Beastmen couldn’t venture into the wilds during the rainy and cold seasons, they spent more time cooped up at home, which in turn led to a baby boom.

The sixth-floor area for new cub Identity Cards was packed with people. It was filled with couples, each consisting of a male beast and a sub-female, all holding swaddled cubs. Some couples were even holding several.

The hall’s twenty registration counters were mobbed with dense lines of people, but a single, glass-partitioned window stood completely empty.

The Beastmen in line looked like they had been waiting for a very long time. As Feng Si stood in the corner, she overheard the couple nearest to her talking.

The sub-female said impatiently, "There are still dozens of people ahead of us. How long is this going to take? Why can’t we go to that window at the very end?"

The male beast with his arm around her looked troubled. "But that window only serves females."

"Didn’t you say your Uncle Yang Wen is a Steward at the City Lord Mansion?" the pampered sub-female suggested with a pout. "Why don’t you go ask him for a favor? Our little cub is getting tired of waiting."

Yang Wen was the pride of the Yang Family. And while he was a Steward at the City Lord Mansion, the Government Building fell under the official jurisdiction of Nantong City itself. A Chief Steward’s status from the Mansion didn’t carry much weight here.

Just then, the very Yang Wen they were talking about came rushing in. The eyes of the waiting couple lit up as they saw him hurrying in their direction.

The sub-female gave his male beast a coy look. "Really, Yang Hao. You called your uncle and didn’t even tell me. If I’d known, I wouldn’t have rushed you this morning, and we could have come later."

Yang Hao was also surprised. He stepped forward toward Yang Wen, greeting him with a delighted look. "Uncle Yang! What are you doing here?"

But Yang Wen wasn’t there for his nephew—the son of his second brother. He was several minutes late for his appointment with Feng Si and was panicking internally.

He hurried right past his nephew, who was trying to speak with him, and went straight to Feng Si. He bowed slightly and apologized, "Shopkeeper Feng, something came up unexpectedly around noon. I’m a little late, my apologies for the wait."

The couple hadn’t bothered to lower their voices, so the surrounding Beastmen had been watching the Steward from the City Lord Mansion—a major figure they would normally never encounter. This made them wonder: who was that black-haired sub-female? Why was the Steward acting so deferential?

Yang Hao, who had been left in his uncle’s wake, was dumbfounded.

At home, his uncle was a figure who was practically worshipped by the family. Everyone bowed when they saw him. Yang Hao had never seen him act this way before!

Given the stern impression his uncle had always cultivated, he didn’t dare approach and disturb Yang Wen. He just stood in place, holding his sub-female partner and their cub.

Feng Si waited for Yang Wen to approach, then shook her head slightly. "It’s fine. I just got here myself."

Yang Wen knew Feng Si’s efficient style, so without any further pleasantries, he immediately made a call on his communicator. "Lord Niu Wei, we have an appointment made by the City Lord himself to process an Identity Card."

Everyone’s eyes in the vicinity went wide. They might not have known the registrar’s name, but they certainly knew the title "City Lord." That was the highest official in all of Nantong City, someone an ordinary person would never even get a chance to see.

To everyone’s disbelief, after Yang Wen spoke a few more words, a door to one of the offices at the front suddenly opened, and a group of people emerged.

Two guards flanked a stern, middle-aged Beastman, and the trio walked briskly toward Feng Si’s location.
