Chapter 90: Chapter 90: Stall Owner, These Northern Wilderness Beasts Are Looking for Trouble

This was a skillful task. His mother had made many round balls, and in order to hold all of them in his short, chubby paws, Yun Chi’s arms weren’t long enough. He had no choice but to stick out his pudgy belly to help.

With every step he slid forward, Yun Chi had to take a big breath to puff out his little belly. His hind paws on the floor had it tough, too; they had to stretch out and grip the carpet to keep him balanced.

Witnessing Yun Chi’s earnest efforts from the side, Feng Si quickly got up and walked over. She scooped both the cub and the balls he was clutching into her arms. The little guy’s belly straightened out, and the small balls in his grasp instantly rolled onto the floor.

"Yun Duo, you want to help Mommy pack, don’t you?" Cradling the little one in one arm, Feng Si gently tapped Yun Duo’s little head.

Yun Chi stared with wide, uncomprehending eyes, though his golden gaze was fixed on the colorful little balls rolling across the floor.

Clinging to his mother’s fingers, he stretched out a short, black paw and pointed at the balls on the floor, making "HISS HISS" sounds.

’So cute.’ Feng Si chuckled softly. She switched from holding him with one arm to cradling him with both, then guided his little paw with her fingertips to gently touch one of the balls.

The little blue ball vanished from the carpet.

Yun Chi smiled in satisfaction, his eyes crinkling.

Infected by the cub’s happiness, Feng Si hugged the little one to her chest again and sat down on the living room sofa, turning her head to look out the floor-to-ceiling window.

Outside, heavy snow had been falling for nearly thirty days straight. The sky remained shrouded in gray clouds. Buildings in the distance were hazy, and those even farther away were completely lost in the grayness.

The snow here was so heavy it seemed capable of freezing everything solid. Staring at it for too long could easily make a gloomy darkness grow in one’s heart.

She pulled her gaze back, looking down to meet the pair of golden eyes in her arms that were focused intently on her. In a gentle yet firm voice, she said, "But no matter where we go, Mommy will be by your side as you grow up."

With Yun Duo by her side.

Not knowing what the future held, Feng Si’s heart grew calm.

Feng Si’s gentle and content mood was contagious. Yun Chi blinked, patted his mother’s hand lightly with his little paw, and hissed a laugh.

Gazing at the innocent little one, Feng Si smiled faintly and gently placed the cub on the floor. With Yun Chi in tow, she resumed packing things away into her space.

Halfway through her packing, a hurried ringing suddenly came from the front door.

DING DONG—

Ever since she’d moved in and people realized she had a baby, the doorbell had almost never rung. Visitors would always inform her via their communicators beforehand and then knock softly on the door.

So, hearing the doorbell after so long, Feng Si froze for a moment. She immediately picked up Yun Duo’s little body and tucked him into the special pocket of her shirt.

She got up and walked to the entrance but didn’t open the door right away. Cautiously, Feng Si pulled open the small peephole in the middle of the door to look outside, then, with a puzzled expression, opened the door.

Yang Wen stood outside, his face covered in frost and snow. His reddened, frostbitten face couldn’t hide his panicked expression. Upon seeing the black-haired sub-female behind the door, his swollen eyes began to grow hot, and he nearly burst into tears on the spot.

After hanging up on Mao Yang’s partner, he had been waiting in his room, extremely anxious. He had a persistent feeling that something bad was about to happen.

When he was at his wit’s end, the first person who came to mind was the one he trusted most.

Yang Wen thought of Feng Si.

A commoner sub-female, she had partnered with the City Lord to create delicacies that allowed Si Shi to achieve the legendary feat of earning one hundred million coins in a single day!

Then she said she would make Si Shi’s name renowned across the South Desolate Continent, and in just a dozen or so days, she had truly made Si Shi the symbol of fine dining on the continent!

After recalling the feats of the black-haired sub-female he had personally witnessed, Yang Wen didn’t even bother to leave instructions for anyone. In his haste, he found even the speed of a flying car too slow.

He had used his sheep beastman form to run all the way from the East District to the North District, through a city frozen solid by the blizzard. Now, his body was stiff from the cold.

At that moment, Feng Si glanced at him without a word and turned back into the room. She returned a moment later with a cup of steaming hot water, which she then pressed into his frozen hands.

"Ma’am..." His frozen lips moved. Sensation began to return to Yang Wen’s equally numb hands.

"What’s wrong?" Feng Si asked.

Her tone was calm. Even though she was a sub-female who had just come of age at twenty, Yang Wen suddenly felt as if he had found a ray of sunlight in the cold season. A feeling of reassurance, just from her presence, washed over him.

Yang Wen raised the cup of hot water, drained it in one gulp, and gripped the cup tightly. "Last night, Young Master Beihuang’s retinue was passing through on their way to Pantian City. They insisted on staying in Nantong City for a day to rest."

"The City Lord is away, and Nantong City’s elite warriors went with him to Pantian City. Our forces here in the city are completely unable to stop them."

"Isn’t Marshal Xi about to enter the city?" Feng Si raised a questioning eyebrow. "Once the Marshal arrives, you can ask him how to deal with that group of Beastmen from the Northern Wilderness, can’t you?"

Hearing the voices outside, Yun Chi hooked the edge of the pocket with his little paws, his large golden eyes peeking out to look at the visitor. Feng Si noticed and raised her hand to shield the top of the pocket, her palm resting on the little one’s head.

Yang Wen’s old face was etched with exhaustion. He watched as Feng Si gently pushed the little black snake cub back into the pocket with her palm, then continued his complaint:

"That was my original plan! But early this morning, they smashed up the Si Shi shop and looted all the food inside!"

His fists clenched. "And if that wasn’t enough, they also broke into the Si Shi workshop and cleared out the entire warehouse!"

Feng Si’s brow furrowed. "They’re openly robbing you?"

"They left two gold bricks..."

Yang Wen shook his head. "But those beasts from the Northern Wilderness have no idea what our pickled cabbage sells for! Two gold bricks are only worth one hundred million coins. How could that possibly pay for the two hundred and thirty thousand jars of pickled cabbage in our warehouse!"

"Ma’am, you have to think of something!"

Feng Si paused, then asked, "They only took food, right? None of your people were hurt?"

Yang Wen was a little touched. "We’re fine. They wouldn’t dare lay a hand on the warriors of the Southern Wilderness."

Feng Si seemed ready to let it go. "As long as no one was hurt, that’s what matters. As for the food..." ’We’ll just have to consider it sold at a discount.’

"Boss—"

Just then, Mao Hua’s frantic cry for help came from the direction of the elevator: "Boss—Mao Qiu went to the East District and still hasn’t come back! We can’t reach him on his communicator either!!"

Watching Mao Hua run over, Yang Wen suddenly realized something and added, "It must have been that group from the Northern Wilderness! They’ve blocked off all the streets in the East District."

Feng Si cut off what she had been about to say. "You are the Chief Steward of Nantong City’s City Lord Mansion. You are currently in charge of overseeing the Northern Wilderness contingent’s stay in the city. Take me to them. Now."
