Watching the sub-females being led away, everyone else also started toward the door.
Feng Si blinked, falling a step behind. She turned to look at the catnip scattered across the floor and couldn’t help but feel a pang of regret.
’Thank goodness the catnip I prepared for Mao Ge didn’t get used. Mao Ge is only a few months old!’
The Diplomatic Steward, Mao Lin, felt her head spin. She’d seen more today than in her entire life.
As a married sub-female of the Cat Clan, and one who had experience with Jing Jie, the effects weren’t as potent on her.
Seeing Feng Si, the sub-female, glancing back wistfully, she also fell a step behind and asked with concern, "What’s wrong?"
Feng Si heaved a deep sigh, her hand protectively covering her Yun Duo pocket. "It was worth hundreds of thousands of coins," she lamented, "and now it’s all gone."
’Unbelievable. And she’s lamenting that it’s all gone!’
Staring at Feng Si’s genuinely regretful expression, Mao Lin felt a tsunami crash over her. Just a moment ago, she thought she’d seen all of Feng Si’s tricks and that nothing could faze her ever again.
She even stammered a little. "You... How about I bid on a new batch... to compensate you?"
"Really? Thank you so much! But could you convert it to cash and transfer it to me now?" Feng Si would never turn down a wealthy female practically offering her money.
Mao Lin, who had seen it all, replied, "...Fine."
Besides, this mess was her fault. Her poor judgment had caused her daughter, Mao Qingqing, to suffer terribly. If Feng Si hadn’t stepped in, she wouldn’t have known how to handle the aftermath.
A few hundred thousand coins was nothing to her. Mao Lin looked at the young sub-female beside her and decided to consider it repayment for the favor.
A moment later, Feng Si opened her communicator and saw the new digits on her Coin Card. She silently counted in her head, ’Tens, hundreds, thousands...’ Suddenly, a familiar light screen appeared. Yun Chi, having recovered some energy, widened his golden eyes and peered down from behind Feng Si’s black hair.
A golden interface appeared on the light screen. Her recent livestreams had earned her another 600 million coins, bringing her total balance to 1.7 billion. Below that, the latest transaction was displayed.
Feng Si’s eyes crinkled in a smile when she saw the 500,000-coin transfer.
His large golden eyes blinked, and Yun Chi also broke into a grin, revealing his small pink mouth.
Truthfully, he didn’t understand any of it; he was just happily smiling along with his mother.
Feng Si turned to Mao Lin and thanked her sincerely. "Awesome, thank you! I wish you all the best."
The corner of Mao Lin’s mouth twitched. She hurried off to find her daughter, Mao Qingqing, leaving Feng Si walking alone at the rear.
The group had just exited the banquet hall when the sound of synchronized footsteps echoed from downstairs. It sounded like a well-trained unit, but no one knew who had arrived.
At the sound, Feng Si’s guard went up instantly. She reached to her shoulder, scooped up Yun Chi, and tucked him back into her inner pocket. Then she zipped up her jacket, completely concealing the young cub.
"You stay in here, sweetheart. It’s cold outside," Feng Si whispered. She then pulled a livestreaming orb from her storage space and tucked it in with Yun Chi, who was still dazed by the sudden plunge into darkness.
Upon seeing his ’old friend,’ the tip of Yun Chi’s tail curled in delight, and his small paws clutched the livestreaming orb tightly.
Even in such a tense and uncertain situation, Feng Si couldn’t suppress a small smile. She followed the others, backing away from the elevator into the hallway. Moments later, the elevator doors slid open.
THUMP. THUMP. THUMP.
Footsteps also echoed from the stairwell. A male beast built like an iron tower and clad in a black military uniform ascended the final step, a squad of tall warriors behind him.
Yang Wen followed respectfully behind the man, head bowed as he reported in a low voice, "Admiral, Young Master Beihuang detained our females here..."
"You mean them?" Xi Zhu interrupted, his gaze fixed on the crowd of females huddled together.
Yang Wen lifted his head, and his eyes shot wide open.
Without waiting for an answer, Xi Zhu’s gray eyes narrowed in suspicion as he surveyed the panicked crowd. He raised a hand and ordered a warrior behind him, "There are females here who are in heat. Take them to the Sacrificial Hall at once."
The tall warrior immediately accepted the order. "Yes, sir!"
A squad of warriors in black uniforms stepped forward and escorted away Mao Yang and two others, along with the remaining feline sub-females who were also in heat.
Feng Si stood with the remaining sub-females. They felt an overwhelming aura of power radiating from the newcomers and unconsciously huddled closer to Feng Si, like a brood of chicks seeking shelter from a hawk’s stare.
This made the once-inconspicuous, black-haired sub-female the sudden center of attention. Xi Zhu ordered another squad into the banquet hall to find the group from the Northern Wilderness. When he turned back, his gaze fell squarely on Feng Si.
He strode up to the black-haired sub-female at the center of the huddle. His gray eyes swept over her, and he demanded in an interrogating tone, "You. Answer me. Why did females from the Cat Clan suddenly go into heat?"
Feng Si was speechless.
Feng Si remained silent. Her gaze fixed on the insignia on Xi Zhu’s shoulder. An image of a massive, single-horned, iron-gray beast flashed through her mind. Paired with the man’s surname, she concluded he was probably a male beast from the Rhino Clan.
"...To fend off Young Master Beihuang’s attack, I was forced to use... certain methods that are difficult to discuss."
Feng Si noticed the countless gazes fixed on her. She remembered that she was in the presence of male beasts, and that other sub-females were still here.
’If I just casually mentioned ’aphrodisiacs’...’
’The implications wouldn’t be good.’ So, she thoughtfully avoided mentioning her homemade Jing Jie, despite all the effort she’d put into drying and grinding it over several days.
Xi Zhu’s sharp eyes noticed the unusual flush that appeared on the faces of the surrounding sub-females after she spoke. Connecting this with the females who had just been escorted away, he zeroed in on another point.
"Are you saying you defeated Young Master Beihuang and rescued them?"
Feng Si saw no reason to deny it. "Yes."
"Impossible!" his adjutant, Xi Zhongsong, suddenly blurted out from behind him. He stared at Feng Si with piercing eyes, as if she were a raving lunatic. "Hah! Have you lost your mind?"
"It’s true! She’s the one who saved us," a sub-female behind Feng Si whispered in protest.
Xi Zhongsong sneered. "You, a single sub-female, managed to get close to Tiger Flame? And right under the noses of his Advanced Warriors, you openly threw some... powder to take down Tiger Flame, a Special-level Male Beast? Then you just swaggered away while being watched by several thousand Advanced Male Beasts?"
"Is that what you’re claiming?" His face was a mask of disbelief, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
Feng Si, however, felt no need to prove herself. She let him finish his tirade and was about to speak to the Admiral when the sound of hurried footsteps approached from behind.
A warrior who had been sent to check on the Beihuang Warriors came running back, a look of astonishment on his face. He rushed to Marshal Xi’s side and whispered something in his ear. Xi Zhu, who had seemed dismissive just a moment before, looked toward Feng Si, and a light gradually began to dawn in his eyes.
