Chapter 231: If You Have the Guts, Then Kill Me!
Chapter 231: If You Have the Guts, Then Kill Me!
After Ling Xiaoyou finished speaking, the air fell into silence.
Even the light orbs operating nearby seemed to sense the current atmosphere, their radiance dimming noticeably.
Weisasi narrowed his eyes at Ling Xiaoyou. His handsome face carried no trace of a smile, his expression turning cold as he asked,
“What do you mean by that? Trying to provoke me?”
As he spoke, an incredibly oppressive aura radiated from his body, as if his slender frame housed a giant capable of holding up heaven and earth.
“I don’t mean anything. I’m just stating facts.”
But Ling Xiaoyou wasn’t intimidated by the Demon Grand Duke’s attitude or pressure. She looked at him, spread her small hands, and said,
“After all, you’re so eager to rush me out of here. It really makes me curious—why didn’t you just kill me outright, and instead decided to let me go?”
“Don’t tell me you’re the type to show mercy at a moment like this. I think someone like you, who would use a virus to wipe out spirits, isn’t the kind to have that sort of compassion.”
“If that’s the case, then the fact that you’re letting me leave is quite intriguing.”
Listening to Ling Xiaoyou’s words, Weisasi’s expression didn’t change at all. He simply continued listening.
But if anyone familiar with him were present, they would understand that this silent, expressionless state was exactly when he had fully resolved to kill.
Ling Xiaoyou didn’t pick up on his thoughts, but even if she had, she wouldn’t have cared at this point.
She stared directly at Weisasi, the infamous Demon Grand Duke, studying him for a long moment before suddenly blurting out,
“Those seals must be really hard to crack, right? Even if you used all the power in your current avatar to erode them, it’d still be too exhausting, wouldn’t it?”
Hearing this, Weisasi’s gaze sharpened.
He glanced at the “stars” whose light was gradually dimming, then looked back at Ling Xiaoyou.
After a moment of silence, he suddenly let out a low chuckle and said,
“Very well. It seems the Regulatory Division really did find a clever enough helper this time. You figured it out just from my unusual behavior alone?”
Though his words didn’t explicitly confirm whether he was using his power to erode the seals, it was essentially an open admission.
Facing the Demon Grand Duke’s praise, Ling Xiaoyou’s expression remained unchanged. She explained,
“Your unusual behavior only gave me a reason to be puzzled and think.”
“The reason I noticed is simple. Judging from the guards outside, you clearly entered this place long ago, yet you’re still standing here in one piece, without dispelling your avatar after completing your plan.”
“Normally, even if your true body is stronger than those experts, too many ants can still bite an elephant to death. You’d risk failing. So after completing your plan, recalling your avatar’s power would be the logical move. Even if that power is negligible to you, it’s still a sliver of security, isn’t it?”
“So, it’s not that you didn’t recall it—it’s that your plan isn’t complete yet, and you can’t recall it. That’s the real situation.”
As she spoke, Ling Xiaoyou pointed at the dimming stars and said,
“And most importantly, you didn’t even try to hide all those dim stars. Do you think I’m blind?”
“Either you don’t take me seriously enough to bother concealing them. In that case, you should’ve just killed me outright—but you didn’t.”
“That means it’s not that you don’t want to, but that you can’t. Because your power has been constantly eroding those seals, you’re unable to cover them up.”
Finishing, Ling Xiaoyou spread her small hands again, sounding somewhat exasperated.
“So where exactly does this habit of yours come from—treating everyone else like idiots, thinking you’re the only one with a brain? Or is it because your subordinates are all muscle-brained numbskulls, and after hanging around them too long, you’ve turned into the same?”
As a modern human who frequently surfed the internet, Ling Xiaoyou could be incredibly sarcastic if she wanted to. However, considering her opponent was an old man who’d lived who knows how many years, she still held back a bit.
But judging by the veins bulging on his forehead, even this level of snark was far too infuriating for him.
Sigh, this is the downside of not being online often—your tolerance is too low.
As for whether Ling Xiaoyou was afraid he might suddenly pull his power back to kill her, honestly, she was a little scared.
But again, the fact that he hadn’t pulled his power back from the start meant he probably couldn’t just recall it at will.
Or maybe once erosion begins, it’s either finish it in one go or lose all progress. She thought the latter was more likely.
After all, if he could recall it, he’d have mostly done so by now, but Weisasi was still standing there without any reaction.
That meant he wasn’t recalling his power, so the latter possibility was more probable.
Of course, she couldn’t rule out the chance that he was just plain stupid and hadn’t thought of it.
But considering he’d lived for so many years, even if his intelligence was lacking, his experience made up for it.
That possibility was too slim.
So weighing everything, Ling Xiaoyou felt fairly secure for now.
And even if a fight did break out, it wasn’t like she’d definitely be killed on the spot.
No matter how imposing and mighty you are as a Demon Grand Duke, you’re just a spirit-level avatar right now. Do you think I’d be afraid of that? If you’ve got the guts, come kill me instantly! See if I can’t drag this out until the end of time and stop you from completing your plan!
As if understanding Ling Xiaoyou’s confidence, Weisasi forcibly suppressed the anger in his heart.
‘There’s no need to get angry at her. She knows her current situation. Her goal is to provoke me into abandoning the seal erosion and fighting her instead.’
‘If I actually did that, I’d be falling right into this brat’s trap.’
With that thought, Weisasi let out a cold laugh and said,
“Save your effort, brat. So what if you figured it out? Even if I stand here without moving, can you kill me? Do you dare risk the possibility of me abandoning my plan to kill you, just to come at me?”
What Weisasi said was true.
Even though he was currently pouring all his strength into eroding the seals, would Ling Xiaoyou really dare take that risk to attack him?
After all, if he truly gave up on his plan, she’d be dead for sure.
So the current situation wasn’t that Weisasi was under Ling Xiaoyou’s control—it was a stalemate.
Weisasi was wary of Ling Xiaoyou interrupting his erosion of the seals, while Ling Xiaoyou was worried about Weisasi ignoring everything to kill her.
That was the real situation, at least as far as Weisasi was concerned.
However…
Weisasi glanced at the stars that were steadily dimming, a flicker of darkness passing through his eyes.
‘My erosion of these seals is almost complete. In just a little while longer, I’ll be able to—’
Suddenly, Weisasi’s expression shifted. His heightened reflexes caught sight of an arrow flying toward him from a distance.
Not far away, Ling Xiaoyou held the Cloud Water Bow, casting him a disdainful glance. She gave a cold snort and said:
“Think I’m scared of you? If you’ve got the guts, come at me!”
