Chapter 238: You're Next!

The enemy’s strength was still formidable. Ling Xiaoyou’s expression turned grave. Although she wasn’t sure what exactly was going on with him, it was clear that an enemy who couldn’t be killed was a huge problem—let alone watching the Imperial Capital Guild President recover to full form once again. Ling Xiaoyou and Bai Shuanglian launched their attack. The two exchanged a glance and, without needing to coordinate, simultaneously struck at the Imperial Capital Guild President.

A ghostly blue flame materialized out of thin air, and then a golden flame surfaced atop it, wrapping around it.

In the next instant, the two flames shot toward the Imperial Capital Guild President with such speed that he couldn’t react in time.

“Boom!”

With an explosion, the Imperial Capital Guild President’s upper body was blown to shreds, but what made both their hearts sink was that almost the moment he was injured, those horrific wounds healed in an instant, and even his clothes regrew from his body.

Seeing this scene, Ling Xiaoyou furrowed her brows, racking her mind for a way to deal with this troublesome opponent.

Savoring the surging vitality, the Imperial Capital Guild President closed his eyes in bliss.

“Hahaha, see this? This is the power of a deity!”

He reveled in the exuberant life force that immortality brought.

Even if he completely let down his guard, so what? He wasn’t afraid of what these two could do anymore. After all, they couldn’t kill him. So what was there to fear!

“This is immortality! This is invincibility! How many times stronger am I compared to you cultivators!”

“Man, you sure talk a lot. Don’t you know villains die from talking too much?”

Watching the Imperial Capital Guild President laugh with such arrogance, Ling Xiaoyou curled her lips.

Dealing with this Imperial Capital Guild President who could revive infinitely—not just them, anyone else would be stuck too. Still, his cockiness wasn’t without reason. They really couldn’t do anything about this endlessly resurrecting body.

Oh yeah? Think you’re so tough? Then strip off that body and fight us with your real one! I’ll tear every hair out of your beard!

At that thought, a spark of inspiration flashed through Ling Xiaoyou’s mind.

Right, since his body alone is what’s powerful, why not just bypass the body entirely!

Who said only death of the flesh counts as real death? Death of the spirit is still death, isn’t it? A vegetable is basically a dead person in some sense!

Ling Xiaoyou’s eyes lit up, and she quickly began shaping her idea in her mind.

Bai Shuanglian noticed Ling Xiaoyou’s state, understood that she was thinking, and deliberately didn’t disturb her. Instead, she took the initiative to meet the Imperial Capital Guild President as he charged at them, engaging him in combat.

Listening to the sounds of battle beside her, Ling Xiaoyou didn’t feel panicked. On the contrary, she was extremely calm, pondering the feasibility of her plan.

Without a doubt, this idea was the best solution at the moment. There might be other ways to defeat the Imperial Capital Guild President, but those would require probing his weaknesses and secrets—and they didn’t have time for that. The Demon Grand Duke was eroding the seal right now. Though she didn’t know how much time remained, judging by the brightness of the stars, time was running out. She had to act fast!

For attacking the spirit directly while bypassing the body, Ling Xiaoyou only had illusion magic at her disposal. But with Spell Overclocking active, she was confident she could affect the Imperial Capital Guild President.

After all, no matter how powerful his body was now, it was just a body. His spirit was still within the scope of an ordinary person.

What needed to be noted was whether the “deity” would block a mental attack against the Imperial Capital Guild President. According to what the Demon Grand Duke said earlier, the Imperial Capital Guild President had merged himself into the “deity” to become this strong. If his body could be strengthened, then what about his spirit? Didn’t his spirit have any defense?

In the middle of battle, she kept all her senses at maximum, not missing a single detail, trying to find a flaw. Ling Xiaoyou pondered while watching the fight between Bai Shuanglian and the Imperial Capital Guild President.

Countless sword lights streaked through the air, weaving into a razor-sharp net that swept toward the Imperial Capital Guild President.

But he didn’t dodge or block. He had completely given up on defense, relying only on his massive health pool to fight Bai Shuanglian.

He let his body be chopped into bits and fired his arm at Bai Shuanglian like a cannonball.

With little experience handling this kind of suicide-attack style, by the time Bai Shuanglian reacted, the fist was already right in front of her.

She hastily raised her longsword to block the punch.

A tremendous force surged through the sword, nearly knocking it from her hands—but she held on tightly, her body sent flying several meters by the impact.

Ling Xiaoyou cast a worried glance at Bai Shuanglian as she was knocked back, and seeing her unharmed, felt a bit relieved. She turned her gaze to the Imperial Capital Guild President, watching him recover.

Suddenly, a thought struck her. She cast aside all other distractions and senses, focusing solely on her perception of souls.

Then, she felt it—a soul knitting the body back together, shaping the flesh according to the soul’s will.

Sensing this, a smile tugged at the corner of Ling Xiaoyou’s lips. She knew exactly what to do now.

The Imperial Capital Guild President’s soul had indeed been strengthened, but perhaps because he had once been an ordinary person, he knew absolutely nothing about building a spiritual defense based on the soul.

This was perfect for Ling Xiaoyou. It meant she didn’t have to worry about his defenses—she only needed to be able to affect his spirit. That simplified things greatly.

Ling Xiaoyou dissolved into a ball of water, bouncing across the ground with its elasticity until she reached Bai Shuanglian’s side, then gave a light leap and landed on her shoulder.

She then quickly explained her idea and plan to Bai Shuanglian. The latter listened patiently, then nodded, indicating she was willing to give it a try.

“Hey, what are you two whispering about? Planning some way to defeat me? Then let me tell you—don’t waste your hopes. It’s impossible!”

The Imperial Capital Guild President watched the two exchange whispers but didn’t bother interrupting them. He just watched with interest.

After all, his mission was only to block these two, to keep them from hindering Viguisas’s erosion of the seal. Even stalling for time was to their advantage.

The Imperial Capital Guild President struck a bodybuilder pose, as if flaunting his current physique, and said,

“This invincible body of mine is something no amount of scheming on your part can defeat. You’d best surrender now. If you do, I might just let you off the hook.”

“You talk way too much. What, did getting stronger all of a sudden go to your head? And ‘invincible’? Don’t you know the last guy who called himself invincible is already floating in space as space junk?”

Ling Xiaoyou cut off the Imperial Capital Guild President’s words directly. Her remark made his face darken as his confidence deflated.

“Brat, didn’t your elders ever teach you…”

The Imperial Capital Guild President took a sprinter’s stance and said coldly,

“To show respect to your elders!”

The moment the words left his mouth, his figure vanished, leaving only an afterimage in his place.

Then, a fierce gust of wind pressure swept in, whipping Bai Shuanglian’s clothes and hair. In the blink of an eye, the Imperial Capital Guild President appeared before Bai Shuanglian and threw a punch at Ling Xiaoyou on her shoulder.

But in the next instant, a longsword arrived, blocking in front of Ling Xiaoyou. Bai Shuanglian’s eyes blazed with killing intent as golden flames on her sword seared the Imperial Capital Guild President’s fist.

That should have been an agonizing burn, but he seemed to feel no pain, laughing as he threw another punch at Bai Shuanglian’s face.

A water arrow shot out from behind, striking his fist off course just in time.

Then Bai Shuanglian’s sword slashed down, cleanly severing both his hands. Yang flames as scorching as the sun’s surface consumed his body, leaving him unrecognizable.

But the Imperial Capital Guild President showed no panic whatsoever. He whipped his head around, aiming to smash it into the two of them.

Bai Shuanglian simply flickered out of the way, dodging the attack.

Then, her right hand traced rapidly through the void, drawing several talismans in the air.

The next moment, rolling thunder crashed down out of nowhere in this starfield-like space, all of it striking the Imperial Capital Guild President.

Ling Xiaoyou spat out a longbow from her position on Bai Shuanglian’s shoulder. A watery tentacle extended from her water ball, drawing back the bowstring as a pitch-black arrow silently materialized.

Then the tentacle released. The arrow appeared in front of the Imperial Capital Guild President almost at the speed of light, piercing clean through his head in one strike.

Bai Shuanglian then swung her sword, unleashing a hundred sword lights in an instant, carving him into fine shreds.

Perhaps from having died so many times, he’d gained some control over his body—the Imperial Capital Guild President could now choose to regenerate a portion of his body first.

A mouth appeared amidst the shredded flesh, taunting the two:

“You think this is going to work on me?”

“Whether it works or not—you’ll find out in a moment, won’t you?”

Ling Xiaoyou glanced at the flesh shreds gradually writhing and regenerating on the ground, and immediately unleashed her strongest <Sweet Dream> illusion, casting it with the direct intention of killing his spirit!

“Experience it? That still won’t—”

Perhaps thanks to the boost from Ling Xiaoyou’s emotions, the illusion took effect extremely quickly. Before the Imperial Capital Guild President could even finish his sentence, his mouth clamped shut.

Then, Ling Xiaoyou could clearly sense her spell trapping him within the illusion, making him believe things were continuing exactly as they were—that her spell would fail, and he would counter-kill her.

But even if he noticed something was wrong, with the illusion realm she’d built using a large portion of her mental energy and half her spirit power, he wouldn’t be able to break free—not for the next few days, at least.

The flesh shreds stopped writhing. Only a mouth and bits of gore remained on the ground. The life force was still there, just lacking the consciousness to shape it.

“Next up… it’s your turn!”

Ling Xiaoyou turned her gaze toward the Demon Grand Duke, whose face was grim, and spoke.
