Skinwalker Belle – Chapter 18 – New Crisis

Lin Fan lay on the bed, listening quietly.

The breathing outside the door gradually calmed, until only a deliberately suppressed, heavy sound remained.

She slowly let out a breath.

Zhou Ming was losing control.

That simp, after personally slaughtering dozens of zombies, was having the wildness in his bones awakened by the stimulation of blood and death.

He was no longer satisfied with the cheap fantasies brought on by her personal belongings.

He wanted more.

He wanted to possess this body.

A mocking smile played on Lin Fan’s lips.

You want me?

Are you even worthy?

But she couldn’t just tear off the facade just yet. Zhou Ming, this tool, still had his uses. He was strong and obedient, the best meat shield and manual laborer she could ask for at this stage.

Pushing him away directly would only drive him completely insane.

A man who was losing control and knew her well was too great a threat.

She had to use a more subtle approach.

To advance by retreating.

Give him a little taste of sweetness, let him see a glimmer of false hope, and then use that hope to tie him firmly to her side until she has squeezed every last drop of value out of him.

Lin Fan got up from the bed, walked barefoot to the window, and pulled back a corner of the curtain to look outside.

The night was deep.

Inhuman roars and miserable screams rose and fell from time to time, proclaiming that this world had completely descended into a living hell.

She took out Liu Ruyan’s phone.

There were noticeably fewer messages.

The neighbors who had been engaged in heated discussions and comforting each other just two days ago had, for the most part, fallen silent forever.

The few remaining messages were filled with despair.

“@everyone, does anyone have any food left? I can pay for it!”

“Building 3, Apartment 1201, help! My husband has turned into a monster! I’ve blocked the door, but he keeps ramming it!”

“Is anyone brave enough to go out and look for supplies together? Let’s form a team! If we just stay here, we’re waiting to die!”

Lin Fan’s gaze lingered on the last message for a moment.

It was starting.

The survivors were beginning to realize that going it alone was a dead end. They would start to band together, forming groups of various sizes.

And wherever humans gathered, a new order would inevitably arise, along with… conflicts more terrifying than zombies.

Her thoughts drifted further.

A huge question had been weighing on her mind since her past life.

Where were the officials?

Where was the military?

In her previous life, right up to the moment Liu Ruyan pushed her into the horde of zombies, she had never heard any news of an official rescue.

It didn’t make sense.

As terrifying as zombies were, in the face of a modern military, with its artillery and heavy machine guns, they were nothing more than moving targets.

Unless…

Lin Fan’s pupils contracted slightly.

Unless this disaster sweeping the world wasn’t as simple as some virus leak.

Behind it, perhaps, lay a deeper, more terrifying truth.

The thought sent a chill down her spine.

However, it was too early to think about these things.

The most pressing matter was to solve the trouble at hand.

She put away the phone, a complete script already forming in her mind.

Lin Fan lay back down on the bed and closed her eyes.

…

Meanwhile.

In a single-story house in a small alley outside the Blissful Gardens community.

The air was thick with the stench of dust and blood.

In the center of the room, a man sat on a chair, leisurely smoking a cigarette.

He had a hideous scar on his face that ran from the corner of his eye to the corner of his mouth, writhing like a centipede with the motion of his smoking.

At his feet, a woman in a professional skirt suit was curled up on the floor. Her hair was disheveled, her clothes were in disarray, and her eyes were vacant, like a broken doll.

Two other thuggish-looking men were pulling up their pants while letting out lewd laughs.

“Damn it, Knife Brother, this broad is about to kick the bucket,” one of them, Yellow Hair, spat.

The other, Bald Head, rubbed his hands, his face full of unfulfilled desire. “Exactly. She’s nothing compared to that chick we saw today. Tsk tsk, that ass!”

The scarred man known as “Knife Brother” heard this, slowly blew out a smoke ring, and shot the two a sinister glance.

“Shut your damn mouths,” his voice was hoarse and low. “Is there anything in your heads besides what’s in your pants?”

The two underlings immediately fell silent, not daring to say another word.

Knife Brother threw the cigarette butt on the ground and crushed it with the toe of his shoe.

“That woman is not simple,” he said, recalling the scene from the daytime. “Did you see the way she threw that fire bottle? Didn’t even blink. Calm and ruthless. That guy with her is just a brainless idiot who does whatever she says.”

Yellow Hair was unconvinced. “So what, Knife Brother? You’ve got this!”

He pointed to an object Knife Brother had placed on a wooden crate nearby.

It was a black handgun, its metallic surface gleaming coldly in the dim light.

“We can just rush over, pop the guy with one shot, and the woman will be ours for the taking, right?”

“Idiot!” Knife Brother kicked Yellow Hair in the shin. “I got thrown in the slammer in the first place because I was as stupid as you!”

He stood up and paced a few steps, his eyes glinting with ambition.

“All the cops in prison turned into monsters. I barely made it out of that hellhole and even managed to grab this gun. It wasn’t so some idiot like you could waste it all in a flash!”

He walked to the door, looked in the direction of the Blissful Gardens community, and licked his chapped lips.

“That woman has supplies, brains, and that fine ass…” Knife Brother’s Adam’s apple bobbed. “The outside is full of fucking monsters, yet she’s still dressed so provocatively. She must be a slut deep down.”

The bald underling sidled up and asked fawningly, “So, Knife Brother, what’s our next move?”

A cruel smile appeared on Knife Brother’s face.

“We wait.”

“We saw them go into that community today. They’re bound to come out again. Next time, we’ll follow them.”

“When they’re heading back, we’ll trail them.”

“The man, we kill.”

He paused, then looked back at his two underlings, his eyes filled with possessiveness.

“The woman, and all her things, will be ours.”

Knife Brother picked up the handgun again, weighing it in his palm, feeling the heavy power to decide the life and death of others.

“In this world, whoever has a gun makes the rules.”

Yellow Hair rubbed his hands excitedly. “Knife Brother is brilliant! That woman has probably never seen a real gun. The sight of it will scare her so bad she’ll go weak in the knees!”

“We’ll make her get on her knees and eat it, hahaha!” Bald Head chimed in with a dirty laugh.

Knife Brother ignored his underlings’ vulgar remarks. His attention was completely focused on that woman.

That calmness, that composure in the face of danger.

Conquering a woman like that was what made it interesting.
