Skinwalker Belle – Chapter 228 – Dragon Shocking the Sky
At the exit of the slums, sunlight filtered through the dilapidated wooden roofs, casting mottled patterns of light and shadow on the ground.
Lin Fan strolled out slowly, his hands in the pockets of his shorts and a pair of small, coffee-colored leather shoes on his feet.
Three meters behind him, Long Yan clutched a wooden crate half a man’s height, his face as black as the bottom of a pot.
Inside the crate were the very arts and crafts from the Artisan Nation that had been “confiscated” from Jiji’s warehouse.
Through the gaps in the crate, one could vaguely make out the silhouettes of those strangely shaped and bizarrely purposed artisan Staffs.
With every step Long Yan took, he felt the gazes from all around piercing him like needles.
He, a mighty seventh-level powerhouse, a man who had awakened the bloodline of an ancient divine dragon, was now reduced to being a porter for someone.
And he was carrying this kind of stuff.
Long Yan took a deep breath, quickened his pace to catch up with Lin Fan, and asked in a low voice, “Are we… really taking these things back?”
Without turning his head, Lin Fan replied in a relaxed tone, “What else? Throw them away? These are premium goods from Artisan City, worth a lot of Crystals.”
“But…” Long Yan paused. “What does a princess like you want with things like this?”
Lin Fan stopped and turned around, a hint of amusement flashing in her golden, vertical pupils.
She tilted her head, a mischievous smile playing on her lips. “Is Brother Long Yan concerned about me?”
Long Yan’s face flushed, and he instinctively looked away. “I just think… it’s not quite appropriate.”
“What’s not appropriate?” Lin Fan took two steps forward, stopping right in front of Long Yan and tilting her head up slightly to look at him.
They were so close that Long Yan could smell the faint, pleasant scent on her.
“Could it be…” Lin Fan blinked. “That Brother Long Yan wants to use them with me?”

“Ahem, ahem!” Long Yan choked on his own saliva, his face instantly turning beet red. “You… Don’t talk nonsense!”
Lin Fan’s smile widened. She reached out a finger and tapped lightly on Long Yan’s chest. “Relax, I know you only have eyes for Sister Ning Shuang.”
“Besides, these are the latest technological products from Artisan City. If we take them back and study them, we might be able to develop new Crystal weapons.”
At the mention of “Ning Shuang,” Long Yan’s expression instantly turned serious.
He tightened his grip on the crate, his voice low. “My life was given to me by Ning Shuang. In this lifetime, I will only be responsible for her.”
Looking at Long Yan’s face, so earnest it was almost stubborn, Lin Fan felt an indescribable emotion welling up inside her.
She let the smile fade from her face, turned, and continued walking.
“I know,” Lin Fan’s voice became calm. “That’s why I won’t make you really marry me.”
Long Yan was taken aback for a moment.
“Once the dust settles from this incident, I’ll find an excuse to send you away from Border Dragon City.” Lin Fan’s shadow stretched long in the sunlight. “When that time comes, you can go wherever you want and do whatever you want.”
Long Yan was silent for a few seconds before suddenly speaking. “Why are you helping me?”
Lin Fan’s steps faltered.
“You saved me, helped me deceive the City Lord… and even went so far as to ruin your reputation by claiming to be ‘pregnant’.” Long Yan stared at Lin Fan’s back. “We’ve known each other for less than a day.”
Lin Fan didn’t answer immediately.
She looked up at the clouds drifting across the sky, a bitter smile touching her lips.
“Because Sister Ning Shuang asked me to,” Lin Fan said softly. “She said that if she’s gone one day, she hopes I can take good care of you.”

Long Yan’s pupils contracted violently.
“She also said…” Lin Fan turned her head, a complex emotion flashing in her golden, vertical pupils, “that you’re a fool who always sacrifices himself for others. So, someone needs to watch over you for her, to keep you from dying too quickly.”
Long Yan clenched his fists, his nails digging deep into his palms.
“Ning Shuang… she…” Long Yan’s voice was a little hoarse. “Will she really come back?”
Lin Fan smiled, a very gentle smile.
“She will.” She nodded. “The day you stand at the pinnacle of this world and have all the Pureblood Dragon Clan under your heel, she will appear before you.”
Long Yan took a deep breath, a blazing fighting spirit igniting in his eyes.
“I will,” he said, word by word. “I definitely will.”
“That’s good.” Lin Fan turned and continued walking. “So for now, be a good boy, hold the crate, and follow me back. Don’t let my father see through the act.”
Long Yan watched Lin Fan’s retreating back, a complex mix of emotions surging within him.
This seemingly spoiled and willful little princess appeared to be far more complicated than he had imagined.
The two of them walked out of the slums and back onto the bustling streets.
The surrounding chatter started up again.
“Look! Princess Long Wu is back!”
“Who’s that man behind her? Carrying such a big crate…”
“I heard they’re toys the princess bought from the black market… ahem, you know.”

Long Yan’s face darkened once more.
Lin Fan, however, strolled leisurely ahead, completely unfazed by the surrounding stares.
Just then, the urgent sound of horse hooves came from a distance.
A troop of cavalry in silver armor galloped from the end of the street, led by the captain of the City Lord’s guards.
Seeing Lin Fan from afar, the guard captain immediately dismounted and strode over.
“Your Highness, Princess!” The guard captain hurriedly bowed. “The City Lord has returned and is waiting for you in the mansion.”
Lin Fan’s gaze sharpened slightly.
Long Teng was back.
So soon?
She had originally thought Long Teng’s trip to the council of elders would take at least two or three days.
It seemed that Long Jingyun’s death was more difficult to handle than she had imagined.
“Understood,” Lin Fan nodded. “I’ll head back right away.”
The guard captain straightened up, his gaze sweeping over Long Yan, a complicated look in his eyes.
Evidently, the rumors about the “Prince Consort” had already spread throughout the City Lord’s mansion.
Lin Fan took Long Yan, boarded the City Lord’s carriage, and headed toward the mansion.
Inside the carriage, the atmosphere was somewhat silent.

Long Yan sat in a corner, clutching that damn crate, not saying a word.
Lin Fan leaned against the soft cushions, resting with her eyes closed.
After a while, Long Yan suddenly spoke. “If the City Lord asks about our relationship…”
“Just say you’re my man.” Lin Fan opened her eyes. “My father has already tacitly approved. You just have to not blow your cover.”
Long Yan was silent for a few seconds, then nodded.
The carriage slowly came to a stop at the entrance of the City Lord’s mansion.
Lin Fan jumped down from the carriage, with Long Yan following behind, carrying the crate.
As soon as they entered the main hall, they saw Long Teng sitting in the master’s seat, his expression grave.
“Xiao Wu.” Seeing Lin Fan, Long Teng’s expression softened slightly. “Come here.”
Lin Fan walked up to Long Teng and called out obediently, “Father.”
Long Teng glanced at Long Yan standing behind Lin Fan, his eyes filled with a complex emotion.
“You two, follow me to the study.” Long Teng stood up. “There are some things I need to clarify with the Third Elder with you two.”
Lin Fan’s heart tightened.
The Third Elder? He must be talking about that Third Elder of the Dragon Clan’s council, Long Jingtian!
What was bound to happen had finally come.
