Skinwalker Belle – Chapter 233 – The New Outfit of the Noble Young Lady

The early morning sun filtered through the carved window lattice, casting mottled light and shadows across the room.

Long Yan stood behind Lin Fan, clutching an ivory comb inlaid with crushed diamonds, fine beads of sweat dotting his forehead.

He had slain at least eight hundred, if not a thousand, enemies in his life, yet facing this head of soft, golden hair felt like confronting some primordial beast.

“Brother Long Yan, are you combing my hair or pulling weeds?” Lin Fan asked, sitting at the vanity and glancing in the mirror at the tense face behind her.

Long Yan’s hand trembled, and the comb nearly fell to the floor.

“I… I don’t know how,” he said through gritted teeth, his voice tinged with a tragic air.

“Then learn,” Lin Fan said, crossing her legs with an air of natural command. “Separate the hair into three strands, then cross them over left and right. It’s very simple.”

Long Yan took a deep breath and clumsily divided the golden hair into three strands.

His fingers, calloused from years of wielding a sword, looked particularly out of place as they held the soft locks.

Left over middle, right over middle…

It went smoothly at first, but halfway through, the three strands became a tangled mess.

“Stop, stop, stop!” Lin Fan pressed a hand to her forehead. “You’re making a braid, not twisting a rope.”

Long Yan’s face flushed red. He let go, took three deep breaths, and started again.

This time, he slowed his movements, weaving the strands together bit by bit.

Ten minutes later, a slightly coarse but passably formed braid was finally complete.

“Alright, that’s better than I expected.” Lin Fan stood up and shook her head, the golden braid swinging behind her.

Long Yan let out a sigh of relief, but before he could relax, he saw Lin Fan retrieve a set of clothes from her System Space.

It was a pure black, gothic-style long dress.

The skirt was layered and tiered, trimmed with silver lace, and cinched at the waist to outline a slender figure.

The hem of the dress fell to her ankles, paired with black silk stockings and pointed-toe, high-heeled gothic shoes.

The most exaggerated part was the black lace hat. A thin veil hung from its brim, obscuring half her face and exuding an air of mysterious and eerie nobility.

“You… you’re going to wear that?” Long Yan’s eyes widened.

“What, does it not look good?” Lin Fan raised an eyebrow and began to undress.

Long Yan immediately spun around, his back to her.

“I didn’t say it doesn’t look good…” he mumbled. “It’s just too conspicuous.”

“Conspicuous is good,” Lin Fan said leisurely as she dressed. “I’m the little princess of Border Dragon City. If I don’t dress respectably when I go out, people will think my father is too poor to even afford a meal.”

She pulled on the black stockings, the silky fabric clinging to her long legs, then slipped her feet into the pointed-toe high heels.

The heels made a crisp clack, clack sound as they met the floor.

Lin Fan walked to the mirror and spun around.

The black gothic skirt billowed with her movement, revealing the slender, silk-clad ankles beneath.

With the golden braid hanging over her chest and the lace hat, she looked for all the world like a noble lady who had just stepped out of an ancient castle.

“Brother Long Yan, do I look good?” Lin Fan tilted her head, looking at Long Yan through the thin veil.

Long Yan turned around stiffly. His gaze swept over her before quickly darting away.

“…It’s alright.”

“Alright?” Lin Fan walked up to him, stood on her tiptoes, and leaned close to his face. “What kind of perfunctory tone is that?”

Long Yan took a step back, the tips of his ears turning red again.

“It looks very good,” he forced out through gritted teeth.

Lin Fan smiled in satisfaction and turned toward the door.

“Let’s go say goodbye to Father.”

In the main hall of the City Lord’s Manor, Long Teng had been waiting for some time.

He wore a dark gold robe, his expression as complicated as if he were sending his daughter off to be married.

When Lin Fan walked into the hall in her high heels, Long Teng was taken aback for a moment.

“Wu’er… what are you wearing?”

“Father, I’m leaving.” Lin Fan walked up to Long Teng, her voice carrying a deliberately choked quality. “You… you must take care of yourself.”

She reached out to hug his arm, resting her head on his shoulder.

Long Teng’s heart softened, and he raised a hand to pat her back.

“Silly girl, it’s not like we’re parting forever,” he sighed. “But this time, you’ve truly impressed me.”

“What do you mean?” Lin Fan looked up, her eyes flashing with confusion.

“You used to be so willful and unruly. I was always worried you’d cause trouble in the future.” Long Teng looked at her, his eyes filled with gratification. “But this time, facing the Third Elder, you were able to remain calm and adapt to the situation… My dear daughter, you’ve grown up.”

Lin Fan sneered inwardly.

Grown up?

Your daughter is long dead.

But on her face, she revealed a brilliant smile.

“That’s because Long Yan was there,” she said, glancing back at Long Yan, who was standing by the door. “He taught me a lot.”

Long Teng followed her gaze to Long Yan, and his expression grew complicated.

“Kid, I’m entrusting Wu’er to you,” he said in a deep voice. “If she so much as loses a single hair…”

“I know,” Long Yan interrupted, his voice calm. “As long as I’m alive, no one will harm her.”

Long Teng nodded and took a storage pouch from his robes, handing it to Lin Fan.

“Here are some Crystals and spiritual herbs. You’ll need them on the road.”

Lin Fan took the storage pouch and stood on her tiptoes to plant a kiss on Long Teng’s cheek.

“Thank you, Father!”

The kiss stunned Long Teng for a moment, then he burst into laughter.

“Go on, go on. Don’t make an old man like me sentimental.”

Lin Fan waved and turned toward the door.

Long Yan followed behind her, and the two of them walked out of the City Lord’s Manor, one after the other.

Only when their figures had disappeared from sight did Long Teng’s smile fade.

He stood where he was, staring at the closed gates, and muttered to himself.

“Oh, Wu’er… Father only hopes that you’ve truly grown up this time.”

Outside the City Lord’s Manor, a lavishly decorated carriage was already prepared.

The carriage was black, inlaid with gold patterns, and its wheels were carved with complex runes. It was clearly of great value.

Lin Fan elegantly sat down in the carriage, her high heels clicking.

Long Yan followed her in. As soon as he sat down, he saw Lin Fan kick off her high heels, revealing her black-stockinged feet, and sit cross-legged in the carriage with a complete lack of decorum.

“I’m exhausted,” Lin Fan said, stretching. “These shoes look good, but they pinch my feet.”

Long Yan averted his gaze and looked out the window.

The carriage began to move slowly, leaving Border Dragon City.

The carriage was so quiet that the only sound was the wheels rolling over the stone-paved road.

After a long while, Lin Fan suddenly spoke.

“Long Yan.”

“Hm?”

“Tell me, if one day you found out that I’m not the person you think I am…” Lin Fan tilted her head, looking at him through the veil. “What would you do?”

Long Yan was silent for a few seconds.

“As long as you are on Ning Shuang’s side,” he said slowly, “that’s enough.”

Then, he added, “Besides, you were never a good person to begin with.”

Lin Fan laughed at his words.

“Hahaha, you certainly see things clearly.”

The carriage continued onward, passing through the bustling streets and heading toward the wilderness outside the city.

Inside the carriage, Lin Fan closed her eyes, her mind already beginning to map out her next plan.

Azurewood City, Lu Yuan, the Slave Market…

And the impending, all-out collision between Blue Star and the Dragon Spirit Continent.

“The interesting part… is just getting started.”
