Skinwalker Belle – Chapter 285 – Arrangements Before Leaving
The night was as black as ink, and the highland gales howled as they swept over the top of the watchtower.
She sat cross-legged beside the base of the lightning rod on the very top of the watchtower. Below her was the brightly lit Chuanxi Base, the clamor of voices torn to shreds by the wind.
Out of sheer boredom, she stretched her legs out, using the passing sweep of the searchlight to examine her current attire.
The red and white miko uniform fluttered in the wind, its wide sleeves filled with the cold air.
A pair of snow-white tabi socks encased her delicate little feet, which rested on a pair of black geta sandals.
It had been three days since she had worn this outfit back from Sakurajima.
If this were back when she was still Long Ningshuang, the clothes would have probably been steeped in her scent by now.
She propped up the tips of her feet and wiggled them slightly.
The pure cotton tabi socks were still dazzlingly white. Forget stains, they weren’t even touched by a speck of dust.
Her Mental Strength acted like an invisible film, keeping all dust an inch away.
Lin Fan leaned in and sniffed.
No smell of sweat.
There was only an extremely faint, elegant fragrance, akin to morning dew or a forest after the rain.
“This Spirit Energy Purification talent really saves on bathwater.”
Lin Fan muttered to herself with some amusement.
With the “Faith Feedback” and “Spirit Energy Purification” systems operating around the clock inside her, her physical body had gradually transcended the limits of a mortal shell.
Although the passive effect was only one-tenth of its active state, it was still a divine evolutionary medicine for low-level Evolved beings.
Even the sweat she secreted was liquid Spirit Energy that had undergone high-intensity purification.

It was no exaggeration to say that if she were to take off these socks she’d worn for days without washing and steep them in a cup of tea, it would be considered a highly nourishing Energy Potion for any Evolved being below level two.
“What would you call this? Original flavor Energy Potion?”
Lin Fan was amused by her own wicked thought, a playful curve forming on her lips.
She stood up, the geta sandals making crisp clacking sounds on the metal rooftop.
That little fox Su Xiaoxiao had already taken Sun Jing and the others to Azurewood City.
Without her bed-warming pillow, the long night seemed a bit dull.
“I’ll go down and see what those guys have cooked up.”
With a flicker of her body, Lin Fan leaped directly from the top of the watchtower, which was dozens of meters high.
The wind howled in her ears.
The instant before she landed, an invisible telekinetic force supported her body, allowing her to descend as lightly as a feather, landing silently on the command room’s balcony.
The command room was thick with smoke.
Lu Yuan had his legs propped up on the conference table, cracking a handful of sunflower seeds he’d gotten from who-knows-where.
Zhou Ming was slumped on the sofa, clutching a Level 5 Crystal Core and frantically absorbing its energy. His face was as pale as a freshly whitewashed wall.
Chu Chen was still squatting on the not-so-spacious swivel chair, a half-eaten lollipop in his hand, staring blankly at the strategic map on the wall.
“So lively?”
Lin Fan pushed open the French window and floated in. Her geta sandals made a crisp sound as they struck the metal floor.
The relaxed atmosphere in the room instantly froze.

Startled, Lu Yuan’s hand trembled, scattering a handful of sunflower seeds all over his face. He shot up from his chair like a spring.
“B-Big Sis! Why’d you float in like a ghost!”
Lu Yuan wore a pained expression, inwardly cursing this she-devil.
Lin Fan ignored the clown and walked straight to the sofa, turning to look at Chu Chen, who was squatting on the chair.
“How are the deliberations going?”
Chu Chen took the lollipop out of his mouth and pointed to several red circles marked on the map.
“Based on Zhou Ming’s current limit, he can open the passage once every two days for three hundred people at a time. This is the most stable plan.”
“The first batch will be elites who can quickly establish a defensive system in Azurewood City. To transfer all the remaining survivors, it will probably take about three months.”
Lin Fan nodded.
Three months.
It was a bit long, but it should be enough time before the Dragon Clan could react.
“What about you?”
Lin Fan pulled out a chair and sat down, her long, slender legs crossed. A geta sandal dangled precariously from the tip of her foot.
“I’ve cleaned up this whole mess for you. Are you planning to come to the other world and be my military advisor, or stay here on this godforsaken plateau and eat sand?”
Chu Chen flicked the leftover plastic stick accurately into the trash can.
He hopped down from the chair and walked to the window, watching the soldiers outside who were working through the night to reinforce the city walls.
“I’m staying.”
His tone was calm, yet it carried a composure that suggested he could hold up the sky even if it fell.

Hearing this, Lu Yuan’s eyes instantly lit up. He frantically winked at Chu Chen, his expression so vivid it was as if he were saying: Bro! My dear bro! Count me in!
Lin Fan raised an eyebrow, seemingly unsurprised by Chu Chen’s choice.
“Reason?”
“Someone has to watch the house.”
Chu Chen turned around, leaning back against the windowsill with his hands in his pockets.
“You’re over at Azurewood City, along with Sun Jing and Ah Hu. The foundation is very stable. But it’s not the same here.”
He pointed at the floor beneath his feet.
“The Chuanxi Base is our only retreat now, and it’s also a vital base connecting the two worlds. If we lose control of this Rift, the foundation we’ve built in the other world will become a tree without roots.”
“Those old geezers from the Federation didn’t succeed this time, but they’ll definitely be eyeing this juicy piece of meat in the future.”
Chu Chen paused, a sharp, cold glint flashing in his perennially dark-circled eyes.
“Besides, I’m the commander of the Shanghai defense line. As long as I’m alive, this flag cannot fall on Blue Star.”
Lin Fan looked at this man who was usually flippant, even a bit decadent.
The wise are often plagued by worries, but he also possessed the stubbornness of a soldier.
“Fine.”
Lin Fan didn’t waste any more words. She stood up and straightened the slightly wrinkled hem of her skirt.
Lin Fan turned her head, her rainbow-colored eyes falling on Lu Yuan, who was trying his best to shrink his presence.
“And you?”

A shiver ran down Lu Yuan’s spine, and he almost dropped to his knees on the spot.
He sidled up behind Chu Chen with a fawning smile, like a timid little wife seeking protection.
“Um… Sis, I think what Chu Chen said makes perfect sense! This Chuanxi Base is so important! It’s our lifeline!”
Lu Yuan spoke with righteous indignation, spittle flying.
“As the former captain of Shanghai’s First Unit, how could I be a deserter at a time like this? I must stay! I’ll use my light to illuminate the nights of Chuanxi!”
In reality, the abacus in his mind was clattering away: Are you kidding me? Go to the other world? That’s the she-devil’s territory!
If I go with her, she’ll probably put me through hellish training every single day.
Isn’t it great on Blue Star?
The mountains are high and the emperor is far away. I can hang out with a reasonable, smart guy like Chu Chen and even show off once in a while. Now that’s the life!
Lin Fan looked at him with a faint, knowing smile.
“Alright.”
“You can stay if you want. But since you’re staying, don’t you dare be a coward.”
Lin Fan walked up to Lu Yuan. The oppressive aura, originating from a higher-level being, made Lu Yuan involuntarily hold his breath.
She reached out and straightened his crooked collar.
“If anything goes wrong with the Rift here, the next time I come back…”
Lin Fan’s fingers slid from Lu Yuan’s collar to his neck, where she gently made a slicing motion.
“I’ll be waiting for my daily hellish training.”
