Skinwalker Belle – Chapter 42 – Make a Strong Effort in One Go
The giant zombie crashed to the ground, shaking the entire lobby.
Black blood gushed from the wound on its neck, spreading across the marble floor.
Lei Li panted heavily, her twin blades covered in black blood.
Beads of sweat formed on her forehead, but the fire of battle still burned in her eyes.
“Lei-jie is amazing!”
“She can even kill a monster that big!”
The crowd erupted in fervent cheers, the euphoria of surviving the ordeal dispelling their earlier fear.
Lin Fan immediately scurried over to Lei Li’s side.
“Lei-jie, are you hurt?”
Her voice was cloyingly sweet with just the right amount of concern. Her small hand gently stroked Lei Li’s arm, her eyes filled with adoration.
Lei Li felt Lin Fan’s concern, and her tense nerves relaxed.
“I’m fine, just a little tired.”
Lin Fan immediately switched to doctor mode, carefully examining Lei Li’s body. Only after confirming there were no external injuries did she pat her chest and let out a sigh of relief.
Ah Hu walked over, his face still pale with lingering fear.
“Lei-jie, these monsters… could there be more of them?”
Lei Li wiped the blood from her blades, her eyes cold.
“I don’t know. But we have to keep going.”
“Stopping here will only make things worse.”
Lin Fan immediately nodded, her crisp voice chiming in.
“Lei-jie is right. We’ve already cleared so many floors, we can’t give up halfway.”
She turned to the crowd, her voice soft yet firm.
“Did you all see that? Even a monster this terrifying, Lei-jie can handle it.”
“What do we have to be afraid of?”
Inspired by Lin Fan’s words, the crowd’s morale soared once more.
Lei Li looked at Lin Fan. This little girl always managed to use the softest words to achieve the most resolute effect at the most critical moments.

“Xiao Yao is right,” Lei Li said, raising her twin blades. “We continue!”
“Next floor!”
The guides reorganized their equipment, preparing to head to the fourteenth floor.
Lin Fan walked over to the pile of Molotov cocktails and counted the remaining ones.
“There are sixty-three left,” she reported to Lei Li.
Lei Li nodded.
“That’s enough. The logistics team will continue to make more, just in case.”
Ten minutes later, the battle began anew.
Under Lei Li’s iron-fisted command, the team’s actions became more efficient and ruthless.
Fourteenth floor, over thirty regular zombies, dealt with in thirty minutes.
Thirteenth floor, fifty, forty minutes.
Twelfth floor…
At four in the afternoon, when the last zombie fell at the stairwell entrance, the entire Fragrant Hills International building was finally cleared completely.
“We did it!”
“We actually did it!”
Everyone was cheering.
After a full day of bloody battle, they finally had a truly safe home.
Lei Li stood by a window on the seventh floor, looking down at the ruined streets below.
“From this day on, this is our fortress.”
Lin Fan walked to her side.
“Lei-jie, what do we do next?”
Lei Li turned to look at the exhausted but excited crowd.
“First, we’ll search every floor starting from the eighteenth to make sure we didn’t miss anything. Then, we’ll reassign the functions of each floor.”
“We have enough space now.”

Ah Hu raised his hand.
“Lei-jie, should we go check the basement?”
“There might be a generator and a water pump there!”
Lei Li nodded.
“Good idea. Xiao Yao, you come with me.”
“The rest of you, continue clearing.”
Lin Fan obediently followed behind Lei Li.
She was very interested in the basement.
In Chen Yao’s memory, the basement was the building’s utility level, the heart that kept a stronghold running.
The two arrived at the underground parking garage on the first basement level.
Lei Li tried the doors of several cars and found a Mercedes that was unlocked.
“The key is still inside.”
She started the engine, and it immediately roared to life.
“The tank is full.”
Lin Fan’s eyes lit up.
“Lei-jie, we can use this gasoline for the generator!”
Lei Li turned off the engine.
“What are you thinking?”
Lin Fan pointed toward the back of the parking garage.
“Let’s go check the equipment room. A building this big must have a backup generator.”
The two continued deeper, finding the equipment room at the far end of the garage.
Pushing open the heavy iron door, they saw three diesel generators, each the size of a small car, standing quietly in a corner.
“This is great!” Lin Fan clapped her hands excitedly. “With these, we won’t have to worry about electricity!”
Lei Li opened the control panel on one of the generators.

“It needs diesel. Ah Hu used to be a car mechanic; he should know how to get it working.”
In a storage room on the second basement level, they also discovered large quantities of cleaning supplies, office supplies, and spare furniture.
“It seems our haul is even bigger than we expected,” Lei Li said with a satisfied nod.
As dusk fell, the aroma of food filled the cafeteria.
When Lei Li announced the discovery of the generators, everyone erupted.
“That’s fantastic!”
“With electricity, we won’t have to be afraid of anything!”
After dinner, Lin Fan followed Lei Li back to her room.
This had already become a routine.
“Lei-jie, you worked hard today.”
Lin Fan helped Lei Li take off her blood-stained jacket, tidying it up for her considerately.
Lei Li watched the busy Lin Fan, her gaze softening unconsciously.
“Xiao Yao, you’ve had a long day too.”
“It’s nothing. I should be taking care of Lei-jie,” Lin Fan said with a sweet smile.
During their shower, Lin Fan helped Lei Li scrub her back as usual, but her technique was slightly different today.
Her small hands were no longer just massaging, but were using her intermediate medical knowledge to precisely press the acupoints on either side of Lei Li’s spine.
“Lei-jie’s muscles are so tight. The battle today was too intense,” Lin Fan mumbled, but her fingertips were applying a skillful pressure to Lei Li’s shoulders and neck.
Lei Li closed her eyes, feeling a warm current spread from the points being pressed, as if the day’s fatigue was being driven away.
“Your technique… is very comfortable.”
“I learned some massage techniques from an old traditional Chinese medicine doctor when I was studying medicine,” Lin Fan fabricated an excuse casually.
Her hands continued downward, gliding over Lei Li’s firm waistline.
“Lei-jie…” Lin Fan’s voice suddenly became a little hesitant.
“Hm?”
“Do you… dislike men very much?” Lin Fan asked, feigning nonchalance. This was something she had wanted to confirm for a long time.

Lei Li’s body stiffened for an instant.
Lin Fan keenly caught this change.
“No… it’s nothing,” Lei Li’s voice was a bit dry. “I just find them troublesome.”
“Is that so…” Lin Fan’s hands paused for a moment, then continued their gentle massage, her tone carrying a hint of innocent curiosity. “I used to think boys were annoying too, until… until I met Liu-jie. She told me that someone who truly loves you will never make you feel like a bother.”
She had deliberately brought up “Liu Ruyan.”
As expected, Lei Li fell silent.
Lin Fan knew that Lei Li still held a grudge over “Liu Ruyan’s” disappearance.
After their shower, the two lay in bed.
Lin Fan snuggled into Lei Li’s arms as usual, but she remained awake for a long time.
“Lei-jie, are you asleep?”
“Not yet.”
“Lei-jie, do you think… Liu-jie will come back?”
Lei Li gently stroked Lin Fan’s hair and sighed.
“She will. Didn’t Zhou Ming go to look for her?”
“But I’m so scared…” Lin Fan’s voice took on a tearful tone. “I’m scared of what that scar-faced man will do to her… Whenever I close my eyes, I see the scene in the infirmary that day… so dark, so cold…”
Lei Li immediately hugged her tighter.
“Don’t be scared. Lei-jie is here.”
Lin Fan nuzzled against Lei Li’s chest and whispered, “Lei-jie, you’re so warm… much more reliable than any man.”
Lei Li’s heart skipped a beat.
She looked at the little girl in her arms who depended on her with her whole being, and an unprecedented sense of protectiveness and possessiveness welled up inside her.
Lin Fan could feel the change in Lei Li’s heartbeat.
She knew the time… was probably almost right.
Lei Li’s strength was external, but her inner craving for the warmth of the same sex was her most fatal weakness.
