Skinwalker Belle – Chapter 47 – Exploration of the Military Camp

At six in the morning, two modified combat vehicles were parked in front of the Fragrant Hills International building.

The protective mesh welded from steel bars glinted coldly in the morning light.

Lei Li was dressed in a black leather jacket and tall boots, with twin blades tucked at her waist.

Her gaze swept over every member of the team.

There were ten people in total this time. Aside from Lin Fan, they were all the elite of the elite.

“Check the equipment.”

Ah Hu patted the steel plates on the vehicle.

“The protective mesh is welded on tight, and the tires have been swapped for explosion-proof ones.”

Xiao Wang held the drone controller.

“The battery is fully charged. No problem for a four-hour flight.”

Lin Fan wore a pink hoodie and jeans, carrying a small medical pack on her back.

She stood obediently beside Lei Li.

“Lei-jie, I’m all ready.”

Lei Li reached out and patted her head.

“Remember, no matter what happens, don’t leave the vehicle.”

“Okay!”

Lin Fan nodded vigorously, her eyes full of compliance.

The convoy slowly drove out of the stronghold.

Abandoned cars lay scattered across the streets.

Shards of glass glittered eerily in the sunlight.

A few wandering zombies could occasionally be seen.

Upon hearing the engine sounds, they staggered in pursuit for a few steps before giving up.

“The vision of these common zombies is deteriorating,” Lei Li observed the outside through the car window.

“But their hearing and sense of smell are getting stronger.”

“The rate of mutation is too fast.”

The convoy advanced along the suburban highway.

The road conditions were much better than in the city.

Occasionally, they needed to ram a few vehicles blocking the road.

But overall, the journey was smooth.

Half an hour later, the vehicles stopped on a small hill.

They were still a kilometer away from the military camp.

Through binoculars, the military base could be seen in the distance.

Tall perimeter walls, dense barbed wire.

It still looked heavily guarded.

“This is it,” Zhou Ming said, pointing at the cluster of buildings in the distance.

“I escaped from that direction.”

Lei Li lowered her binoculars.

“Xiao Wang, get the drone ready.”

“Roger!”

Xiao Wang skillfully operated the equipment.

The propellers began to spin slowly, emitting a faint buzzing sound.

Lin Fan gripped Lei Li’s arm tightly.

“Will it attract the zombies?”

“Don’t worry, the drone flies very high,” Lei Li said, gently stroking her hair.

“They won’t be able to spot it.”

The drone slowly ascended.

Aerial footage began to display on the screen.

Green hillsides, a winding highway.

And in the distance, that heavily guarded military camp.

“Fly closer,” Lei Li said, staring at the screen.

“I need to see the situation inside clearly.”

The drone flew closer and closer.

The outline of the military camp gradually became clear.

It was a standard military base layout.

The perimeter consisted of high walls and barbed wire.

The interior was divided into several functional areas: barracks, a training ground, a command post, and an armory.

“Looks normal,” Ah Hu said with a frown.

“No signs of a fight.”

“Keep flying,” Lei Li’s voice was calm.

“Fly over the barracks.”

The drone adjusted its angle.

The camera focused on the barracks area.

The next second, everyone sucked in a sharp breath.

On the open ground in front of the barracks, hundreds of figures stood in dense formation.

They were wearing neat military uniforms.

Some were green training fatigues.

Others were camouflage combat uniforms.

They stood in neat ranks, perfectly still.

As if they were in the middle of morning exercises.

“This…” Zhou Ming’s voice trembled.

“How are they standing so neatly?”

Lin Fan’s eyes widened.

“That’s so strange. Aren’t zombies supposed to wander around?”

Lei Li stared intently at the screen.

“Lower the altitude. I want to see their faces clearly.”

The drone slowly descended.

The camera zoomed in.

The faces of those “soldiers” gradually came into focus.

Pale skin, hollow eyes.

Black bloodstains still hung at the corners of their mouths.

But their posture remained standard.

Hands held vertically at their sides, feet together.

Just like real soldiers.

“They’re all zombies,” Lei Li’s voice was very soft.

“But they’ve retained their habits from when they were alive.”

“That’s impossible!” Ah Hu stood up in agitation.

“How could a zombie possibly remember formation drills?”

The drone continued to circle above the barracks.

The camera swept over every corner.

Dozens of zombies also stood on the training ground.

They faced the flagpole, maintaining a position of attention.

As if they were conducting a flag-raising ceremony.

“Look over there,” Xiao Wang pointed to a corner of the screen.

“The entrance to the command post.”

The camera turned towards the command post.

Several zombies in officer uniforms stood at the entrance.

Their ranks were higher.

The metal on their epaulets gleamed.

But they had the same hollow eyes and pale faces.

“Even the officers have turned into zombies,” Zhou Ming swallowed hard.

“And it looks like there are no signs of a struggle at all.”

Lei Li carefully observed the footage.

The doors and windows of the barracks were intact.

There were no bloodstains on the ground.

The walls and barbed wire showed no signs of damage.

It was as if everyone had suddenly turned into zombies at the exact same time.

“This wasn’t a normal viral transmission,” Lei Li’s voice was certain.

“The viral transmissions we’ve encountered before have a process, there’s a struggle.”

“But there’s nothing here.”

Lin Fan blinked her wide eyes.

“Then how did they become zombies?”

Lei Li didn’t answer.

Her expression grew increasingly grave.

“Fly to the armory and take a look.”

The drone changed direction, flying towards the armory deep within the base.

That was the core area of the military camp, where various weapons and equipment were stored.

The camera swept over the exterior of the armory.

Dozens of zombie soldiers also stood there.

They guarded the entrance to the warehouse, as dutiful as they had been in life.

“The weapons are still there.” A glint of greed flashed in Ah Hu’s eyes.

“If we could get our hands on that equipment…”

“Don’t even think about it,” Lei Li cut off his fantasy.

“Look at how many zombies there are.”

The drone ascended, providing a bird’s-eye view of the entire military camp.

Dense figures were scattered in every corner.

A rough estimate put the number at least three thousand.

And every single one of them maintained a soldier’s posture.

“There are too many,” Zhou Ming shook his head in despair.

“There’s no way we can fight them.”

Lin Fan asked softly, “Lei-jie, should we keep looking?”

Lei Li was silent for a few seconds.

“Let’s check the other places.”

The drone flew towards the barracks area.

The camera looked inside through a window.

Several zombies also stood in the room.

They faced the wall, maintaining a position of attention.

As if they were awaiting orders.

“It’s even like this indoors,” Xiao Wang’s voice trembled.

“What on earth are they waiting for?”

A thought suddenly struck Lei Li.

“Switch to the highest resolution.”

“I want to see their eyes.”

The camera zoomed in, focusing on the face of an officer zombie.

His pale skin was covered with blue veins.

The blood at the corner of his mouth had dried.

But the strangest thing was his eyes.

They weren’t the murky eyes of a common zombie.

Instead, they were an eerie white.

As if they were covered by something.

“Those kinds of eyes…” Zhou Ming sucked in a cold breath.

“I’ve seen them before!”

“Where?” Lei Li asked urgently.

“On some of the zombies in the city,” Zhou Ming tried hard to recall.

“Those particularly strong Mutant zombies.”

“Their eyes were exactly this kind of white.”

Lin Fan gripped Lei Li’s arm tightly.

“What does that mean?”

Lei Li’s expression became even more serious.

“It means they aren’t ordinary zombies.”

“They’re some kind of special Mutant.”

The drone continued to circle in the air.

The camera swept over every corner of the military camp.

The mess hall, the infirmary, the garage.

Zombie soldiers like these stood everywhere.

They maintained the habits and discipline of their former lives.

Like an army of the dead.

“Recall the drone,” Lei Li made her decision.

“We’ve seen enough.”

Xiao Wang began to pilot the drone back.

The sound of the propellers gradually faded.

Silence fell inside the vehicle.

Everyone was processing what they had just witnessed.
