Skinwalker Belle – Chapter 48 – The Bait Plan

“We need weapons.”

Lei Li lowered her binoculars, her tone leaving no room for doubt.

Ah Hu swallowed hard, his face a little pale.

“But there are thousands of zombies down there, Lei-jie. How are we supposed to charge in?”

Lin Fan blinked her big, innocent eyes, her voice as sweet as honey.

“When the drone flew over just now, I saw all those zombies look up.”

Lei Li looked at her.

“What do you mean?”

“Their hearing is very sharp,” Lin Fan analyzed in her uniquely sweet voice. “Although they didn’t chase after it, they clearly noticed the sound.”

Lei Li understood what she was getting at.

“What are you trying to say?”

“We can use that to our advantage.” A flash of cunning that didn’t match her appearance at all glinted in Lin Fan’s eyes. “Use sound to lure them away.”

Zhou Ming frowned.

“How do we lure them?”

“Drive a car, honk the horn,” Lin Fan said as seriously as if she were discussing what to have for dinner. “Create a huge amount of noise to draw all the zombies away from the armory.”

Ah Hu’s eyes lit up instantly.

“That could work!”

“But who’s going to be the bait?” Xiao Wang asked the most crucial question, his voice full of worry. “That’s three thousand zombies, not three hundred.”

“I’ll go.”

Ah Hu stepped forward without the slightest hesitation.

He patted his sturdy chest.

“I’m a veteran. I was a driver in the army, so my driving skills are solid.”

Lei Li immediately shook her head.

“No, it’s too dangerous.”

“Lei-jie, hear me out.” Ah Hu’s expression was exceptionally determined. “I’ll drive in, circle the armory a few times to get all their attention, and then lead them toward the training grounds.”

“The training grounds are wide open. I can shake them off.”

Lin Fan immediately nodded in agreement.

“If you do that, the other vehicle can take the opportunity to rush in from the side and grab the supplies.”

“That’s right. From the drone footage, the armory door is open,” Xiao Wang added. “Getting in and out should be easy.”

Lei Li fell silent, her fingers tapping unconsciously on the car window.

“The risk is still too great.”

“Lei-jie…”

Lin Fan gently tugged on her sleeve, tilting her small face up with a pitiful look in her eyes.

“We really need those weapons.”

“Our current equipment can’t handle that many zombies.”

Looking at her obedient and dependent expression, Lei Li felt the softest part of her heart being touched.

She sighed.

“Then who will drive the second car?”

“I will!”

Lin Fan immediately raised her small hand, afraid someone else would snatch the chance from her.

“What?” Lei Li’s eyes widened in an instant. “Absolutely not!”

“Lei-jie, I have a driver’s license,” Lin Fan continued, blinking her expressive, big eyes. “I used to drive myself to the hospital all the time. My skills are really good.”

She moved a little closer, her voice growing even softer.

“Besides, I’ll just be staying in the car to support you. I don’t have to get out. It’s very safe.”

Zhou Ming also immediately voiced his opposition.

“It’s too dangerous, Xiao Yao. What if something happens?”

“Oh, just trust me.” Lin Fan shook Lei Li’s arm like a pouting child, her body rubbing gently against her. “I’ll be very careful.”

Lei Li’s defenses began to waver.

Lin Fan immediately added fuel to the fire.

“And if I drive, you can focus on fighting, Lei-jie. You won’t have to be distracted by looking after me, right?”

Ah Hu nodded along.

“Xiao Yao is right, Lei-jie. She’s actually safest inside the car.”

Lei Li finally relented.

She looked at Lin Fan and said with utmost seriousness, “Alright, but you must follow my commands completely.”

“Mhm!”

Lin Fan nodded vigorously, smiling like a child who had just been given candy.

Lei Li immediately began assigning tasks.

“Ah Hu, you take two guys in one car. Bring all the Molotov cocktails. Use them to protect yourselves in a critical moment.”

“Xiao Yao will drive the other car. Me, Zhou Ming, and Xiao Li will go with her.”

“The rest of you will be led by Xiao Wang. You’ll stay on the hilltop and scout with the drone. Maintain radio contact at all times.”

Everyone immediately sprang into action.

Ah Hu carefully inspected every Molotov cocktail.

“Twenty in total. Should be enough.”

Xiao Li was in the car, taking stock of the weapons.

“We’re low on crossbow bolts. We have to use them sparingly.”

Lin Fan was already in the driver’s seat, skillfully adjusting the seat and rearview mirrors. Her fluid movements made it seem like this wasn’t her first time driving such a heavy, modified vehicle.

Lei Li sat in the passenger seat, still looking at her with some unease.

“Are you really sure about this?”

“Relax, Lei-jie.” Lin Fan turned her head and gave her a cloyingly sweet smile. “I’m a very steady driver.”

“Radio check, radio check,” Xiao Wang’s voice came through the walkie-talkie.

“Ah Hu, received.”

“Xiao Yao, received,” Lin Fan replied in her signature sweet voice.

“Good.” Lei Li picked up her walkie-talkie, her eyes turning sharp. “Begin the operation.”

The two combat vehicles started up slowly. Ah Hu’s vehicle was in the lead, with Lin Fan’s following closely behind, heading down the mountain road toward the silent, dead military camp.

“Nervous?” Lei Li asked softly.

“A… a little,” Lin Fan’s voice carried just the right amount of trembling. “But with you here, Lei-jie, I’m not afraid.”

Lei Li reached out and patted her head, the warmth of her palm seeming to grant strength.

“Don’t worry, I’ll protect you.”

The convoy soon approached the military camp’s perimeter fence.

Through the broken wire mesh, they could clearly see the dense, neatly arranged zombie soldiers inside.

They were like a legion of the dead, waiting for inspection.

“Fucking creepy,” Zhou Ming cursed under his breath.

“Prepare for action,” Lei Li ordered over the walkie-talkie. “Ah Hu, you go in first.”

“Roger!”

Ah Hu’s vehicle instantly let out a roar and crashed directly through the camp’s main gate.

The piercing sound of twisting metal and a blaring horn exploded at the same time.

Ah Hu was honking the horn like a madman.

The shrill sound instantly shattered the dead silence of the camp.

Almost simultaneously, all the zombie soldiers turned their heads, their pairs of hollow, white eyes locking onto Ah Hu’s vehicle.

Then, they moved.

It wasn’t the shambling gait of ordinary zombies, but a uniform, rapid sprint.

“Oh my god!” Xiao Li’s voice went up an octave. “How are they so fast?”

Hundreds of zombies surged toward Ah Hu’s car like a tidal wave.

But Ah Hu’s driving skills were indeed top-notch. He weaved nimbly through the dense horde of zombies, always managing to keep a sliver of hope alive.

The horn blared continuously, attracting more zombies from every corner of the camp.

The men in his car constantly threw Molotov cocktails, and fireballs exploded in the horde, temporarily halting their advance.

“There are a lot fewer zombies near the armory! Most of them have been lured away!” Xiao Wang reported excitedly over the radio.

“Now! Go!”

Lei Li gave the order.

Lin Fan slammed her foot on the accelerator.

The modified combat vehicle let out a roar and charged fiercely toward the armory.

A few stray zombies tried to block the way but were sent flying like paper cutouts by the steel plate on the vehicle’s front.

“Turn left!” Lei Li pointed at the open doors of the armory.

Lin Fan wrenched the steering wheel, and the vehicle executed a beautiful drift in the open space, stopping precisely at the armory entrance.

“We’re here!”

Lei Li, Zhou Ming, and Xiao Li leaped out of the car like lightning.

The sight inside the armory made their breath catch.

There were rows of rifles, crates of ammunition piled up like small hills, as well as grenades and body armor…

There were even a few single-man rocket launchers leaning in a corner.

“We’ve hit the jackpot!” Xiao Li shouted in excitement.

“Cut the crap and start moving!”

Lei Li was the first to grab a crate of rifles and toss it into the vehicle.

Lin Fan sat steadily in the driver’s seat, keeping the engine running while vigilantly observing their surroundings.

“Watch out!”

Zhou Ming suddenly let out a sharp yell.

From the deep shadows of the armory, several figures slowly walked out.

They were also wearing military uniforms, but the metallic glint on their epaulets indicated their higher rank in life.
