Skinwalker Belle – Chapter 7 – Crazy Shopping Spree

Lin Fan slung the large bag full of supplies over her shoulder.

The heavy weight made her shoulder ache, but the feeling of abundance put her at ease.

“Ming-ge, this is enough to last us a long time.”

Zhou Ming nodded, also shouldering a hiking backpack stuffed to the brim.

“What about the rest?”

He pointed to the two cartloads of supplies piled up like a small mountain.

Rice, flour, cooking oil—these bulky items couldn’t fit into their backpacks at all.

Lin Fan glanced at the street outside.

The zombies that had been lured away by the car alarm wouldn’t be back anytime soon.

This was a perfect window of opportunity.

“We’ll push them straight back.”

She made her decision.

“The residential complex is just across the street anyway, it’s not far.”

“Push the shopping carts?”

Zhou Ming was taken aback for a moment.

“Won’t that be too conspicuous?”

“Better to be conspicuous than to leave it all behind.”

Lin Fan had already started loading more things into a shopping cart.

“Besides, most people are still holed up at home waiting for rescue. The streets are basically empty.”

“In a few days, when they realize the authorities can’t save them, their first thought will be to loot for food.”

“By then, it’ll be impossible to scavenge for supplies this peacefully.”

Realization dawned on Zhou Ming.

Now was indeed the best time.

Once the public completely despaired and social order collapsed, getting supplies this easily would be nothing but a dream.

“You’re right.”

He started helping her load the carts.

“Then let’s hurry.”

The two of them quickly divided the remaining supplies into two shopping carts.

They put the rice and flour on the bottom, the cooking oil in the middle, and stuffed various seasonings and canned goods into the gaps.

On top, they piled all sorts of daily necessities: sanitary pads, tape, paper towels, laundry detergent…

The shopping carts were filled to the brim, making them quite difficult to push.

“Let’s go.”

Lin Fan pushed one of the carts and headed for the supermarket entrance.

Zhou Ming followed closely behind, also pushing a cart full of supplies.

The two of them cautiously exited the supermarket.

The street was still quiet.

The zombies had been led far away by the car alarm, making this area temporarily safe.

“Wait.”

Lin Fan suddenly stopped.

Her gaze fell on the Kangmin Pharmacy next to the supermarket.

Although the pharmacy’s glass door was closed, they could see from the outside that the lights were still on.

“Let’s clear out the pharmacy while we’re at it.”

“Medicine?”

Zhou Ming was a little puzzled.

“We’re not sick.”

“In the apocalypse, medicine is more precious than gold.”

Lin Fan pushed her shopping cart toward the pharmacy.

“Antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, painkillers, vitamins—these are all lifesavers.”

“Plus, medicine can be used for trade. A box of antibiotics can be exchanged for a bag of rice.”

Only then did Zhou Ming understand the importance of medicine.

In an apocalypse with no hospitals, a small wound could be fatal.

Medicine was indeed hard currency.

“Then let’s be quick.”

The two parked their shopping carts at the pharmacy entrance.

Lin Fan walked up to the glass door and gave it a gentle push.

It was locked.

She looked around and found a fist-sized rock.

“Smash it open.”

Zhou Ming took the rock and slammed it hard against the lock.

Crash!

The glass shattered on impact.

Zhou Ming reached in and unlocked the door from the inside.

The two of them quickly entered the pharmacy.

The situation inside was much better than in the supermarket.

The shelves were neat and the products were orderly, clearly not having been looted yet.

Lin Fan went straight for the prescription drug counter.

All kinds of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs were neatly arranged behind the glass cabinet.

“Smash this.”

She pointed at the glass of the medicine cabinet.

Zhou Ming swung the handle of his kitchen knife and shattered the glass in a few blows.

Lin Fan began to frantically sweep up everything.

Amoxicillin, cephalosporins, roxithromycin, ibuprofen, aspirin…

She stuffed all the common medicines she could name into her backpack.

At the same time, she stored a small amount of each type of medicine in her System Space for emergencies.

Zhou Ming, meanwhile, was in charge of the over-the-counter section.

Cold medicine, fever reducers, cough syrup, vitamin tablets…

He didn’t even spare first-aid supplies and adhesive bandages.

“And these.”

Lin Fan pointed to the medical equipment in the corner.

Thermometers, blood pressure monitors, stethoscopes—they might not be very useful, but they could be lifesavers at a critical moment.

The two worked with clear roles and extreme efficiency.

In less than ten minutes, they had basically cleared out everything of value in the pharmacy.

“That’s enough.”

Lin Fan patted her bulging backpack.

“We can’t fit any more.”

Zhou Ming was also fully loaded.

“This is so much medicine. It’ll last us a long time.”

“Not just for us to use, but also to trade.”

Lin Fan was already mentally planning how to use these medicines to establish a trading network in the future.

“Alright, let’s head back.”

The two resumed pushing their shopping carts, heading toward their residential complex.

The fifty-meter distance felt exceptionally long with their carts fully loaded with supplies.

The wheels of the shopping carts made a rumbling sound on the asphalt road.

The sound wasn’t loud, but it was particularly clear on the silent street.

Lin Fan kept a constant watch on her surroundings.

Although this area was temporarily safe, it didn’t mean it was absolutely safe.

If a few zombies happened to wander over from somewhere else, there was no way they could get away while pushing such heavy carts.

Fortunately, the journey was uneventful.

The two of them reached the gate of the residential complex smoothly.

“We’re finally here.”

Zhou Ming let out a long sigh of relief.

He was already sweating from the effort of pushing such a heavy cart.

“Don’t celebrate too soon.”

Lin Fan gazed at the apartment building in front of them.

“The hardest part is yet to come.”

“What do you mean?”

“How do you think we’re going to get these two carts of stuff up to the eighth floor?”

Only then did Zhou Ming realize the gravity of the problem.

The shopping carts were too big to fit in the stairwell.

And the elevator… using an elevator in the apocalypse was tantamount to suicide.

“Move it in batches?”

“That’s the only way.”

Lin Fan began to redistribute the supplies.

“Let’s move the most important things up first. We’ll find a place to hide the rest.”

The two pushed the shopping carts to a corner behind the building.

It was relatively hidden and not easily discovered.

Lin Fan selected the most vital and not-too-heavy survival supplies like canned food, sugar, and salt.

Zhou Ming was responsible for carrying the rice, flour, and cooking oil.

“Only take one bag at a time,” Lin Fan instructed.

“Carrying too much will tire you out. If we run into a zombie in the stairwell, it’ll be trouble if we can’t react in time.”

Zhou Ming nodded.

He shouldered a ten-kilogram bag of rice, while Lin Fan carried a large bag of salt and sugar in one hand.

They began the long process of hauling.

From the first floor to the eighth, they went back and forth more than a dozen times.

Each trip was a test of their stamina and willpower.

This was especially true for Lin Fan. In Liu Ruyan’s body, her physical fitness was naturally inferior to Zhou Ming’s.

By the fifth trip, she was already panting heavily.

“Ruyan, why don’t you take a break?”

Zhou Ming’s heart ached seeing her drenched in sweat.

“I’ll carry the rest.”

“No.”

Lin Fan shook her head.

“There’s too much. You can’t move it all by yourself.”

“And the longer we take, the more likely something will go wrong.”

She wiped the sweat from her forehead and picked up another case of canned food.

Seeing her persistence, Zhou Ming was even more moved.

Such a delicate-looking girl possessed such a strong will.

For the sake of survival, she was fighting even harder than a grown man like himself.

“Ruyan, you’re really amazing,” he couldn’t help but say.

Lin Fan paused for a moment, then gave a tired but determined smile.

“Less talk, more moving.”

The two continued to work hard.

Another hour passed before the supplies in the shopping carts were finally all moved.

They collapsed in the eighth-floor stairwell, gasping for breath.

“Finally… it’s all moved.”

Zhou Ming felt like his legs weren’t his own anymore.

Lin Fan wasn’t much better off.

Liu Ruyan’s body had limited stamina to begin with, and the continuous high-intensity hauling had pushed her to her limit.

But looking at the mountain of supplies piled up in the room, she was filled with a sense of accomplishment.

With these things, they could at least guarantee their survival for a year.

“Let’s rest for a bit, then we’ll go for one more trip.”

“Again?”

Zhou Ming thought he had misheard.

“The shopping carts are still downstairs, and there are still some things left in them.”

“Besides, I just remembered there’s some medical equipment in the pharmacy we didn’t take.”

Zhou Ming wanted to cry but had no tears.

“Ruyan, we’ve already taken more than enough…”

“In the apocalypse, the concept of ‘enough’ doesn’t exist.”

Lin Fan stood up and began to organize her gear again.

“Today is the best opportunity. If we miss it, it’ll be impossible to get these supplies so easily in the future.”

She was right.

Although Zhou Ming was dead tired, he understood this principle.

Every extra bit they moved now was another day they could survive later.

“Alright, one last trip.”

The two took a short ten-minute break before heading downstairs again.

There were indeed some miscellaneous items left in the shopping carts.

Instant noodles, cookies, mineral water—while not essential, it was better to have them than not.

The two went to the pharmacy again and packed up all the remaining important medicines.

They didn’t even spare the cash in the pharmacy.

Although money wasn’t worth much now, it might be useful later.

“Now it’s really all done.”

Zhou Ming looked at the empty shopping carts and let out a long sigh of relief.

“Yes, today’s haul was good.”

Lin Fan nodded in satisfaction.

“We’ll rest and reorganize tomorrow, and the day after, we’ll go to the outdoor supply store.”

“The outdoor supply store?”

“We need better gear.”

Lin Fan looked at the simple protective gear she was wearing.

“Cardboard armor can only get us by for a while. Real protective equipment is what will save our lives.”

“Plus, they have all sorts of survival tools there.”

“Multi-functional army knives, entrenching tools, hand-crank generators… these things are more important than anything in the apocalypse.”

Zhou Ming imagined the professional equipment, his eyes shining with longing.

“So when are we going?”

“No rush.”

Lin Fan shook her head.

“Unlike food stores and pharmacies, people won’t have a huge demand for those things in the early stages.”

“No one will be rushing to loot them anytime soon.”

“Let’s first process today’s haul, rest, and build up our strength.”

“That place is farther away, and the road there will be more dangerous.”

“We need to be more prepared.”

The two carried the last batch of supplies back home.

Looking at the room full of spoils, Lin Fan felt a strong sense of security.

Food, medicine, daily necessities—they had everything.

Even if they were trapped at home for a month, they wouldn’t have to worry about survival.

“Ruyan, you’re really incredible,” Zhou Ming praised her sincerely.

“If it weren’t for you, I never would have thought to hoard so many things.”

Lin Fan just gave a faint smile.

In her eyes, this was just the most basic preparation for survival.

The real test was yet to come.
