Skinwalker Belle – Chapter 89 – Crystal Core Hunting Team

The first rays of morning sun had just pierced through the thick clouds when the roar of engines echoed through the underground garage of Fragrant Hills International Tower.

Ah Hu, clad in heavy protective gear and holding a modified assault rifle, was conducting a final inspection of the twenty team members before him.

“Remember, our targets today are Mutant Zombies, not the common kind.”

His voice, carrying the distinct solemnity of a veteran, reverberated through the garage.

“If you encounter a Mutant, suppress it with heavy firepower immediately. Do not, under any circumstances, act alone.”

The team members answered in unison, their voices perfectly synchronized.

These individuals were elites, handpicked from various strongholds, and each possessed extensive combat experience.

Chen Wan stood at the rear of the team, a large medical pack on her back.

Her speed ability made her the perfect combat medic, able to reach any position in need of rescue in the shortest possible time.

“Doctor Chen, remember, don’t get involved in direct conflict during the fight.”

Ah Hu turned to her, his tone laced with concern.

“Your mission is to ensure everyone makes it back alive.”

Chen Wan nodded, her gaze firm.

“I understand.”

The armored vehicle’s engine roared again, and the convoy slowly drove out of the underground garage.

Meanwhile, deep in the tower’s basement, Zhou Ming was conducting his special training alone.

He stood in the center of a spacious room, surrounded by all sorts of obstacles.

Taking a deep breath, Zhou Ming focused his mind.

An image of the other side of the room appeared in his head.

The next second, his figure vanished from its spot.

When he reappeared, he was standing steadily at his target location.

But that wasn’t enough.

Zhou Ming wiped the sweat from his brow and continued practicing more complex movement routes.

Consecutive Teleportations, mid-air turns, and even changing his body posture during a Teleportation.

Every successful Teleportation gave him a deeper understanding of this mysterious power.

Amidst the city ruins, Ah Hu’s convoy advanced cautiously.

Their destination was an industrial zone in the eastern part of the city, where a large number of Mutant Zombies were said to have gathered.

“Target spotted ahead.”

The spotter in the front passenger seat reported over the radio.

“Three o’clock, two hundred meters, one strength-type Mutant.”

Ah Hu raised his binoculars, carefully observing the behemoth in the distance.

It was a Mutant Zombie nearly three meters tall, its body a mass of gnarled muscle and its skin an unnatural grayish-black.

It was wandering through a pile of rubble, each step leaving a deep footprint in the ground.

“Everyone, get ready.”

Ah Hu’s voice was transmitted to every team member through the radio.

“Execute the plan. Heavy machine gun for suppression, rifles to finish it off.”

The armored vehicle slowly approached, and the heavy machine gun on its roof began to take aim.

“Fire!”

A dense rain of bullets poured down, striking the Mutant Zombie’s body.

But the bullets only kicked up a shower of sparks on its skin, failing to inflict any fatal damage.

The Mutant Zombie let out an enraged roar and turned to charge at the convoy.

“Everyone out of the vehicles! Spread out!”

At Ah Hu’s command, the team members quickly jumped from the vehicles, forming a semi-circle.

Although the Mutant Zombie wasn’t fast, its strength was terrifying.

It smashed its fist into an abandoned car, instantly flattening the entire vehicle into a metal pancake.

“Aim for the joints!”

Ah Hu raised the anti-materiel sniper rifle in his hands and aimed at the Mutant Zombie’s knee.

With a loud bang, the large-caliber bullet hit its mark.

The Mutant Zombie’s left leg instantly lost its support, and its massive body crashed to the ground.

“Now! Concentrate fire!”

All firepower was simultaneously unleashed on the fallen Mutant Zombie.

After a full five minutes of continuous fire, the terrifying monster finally stopped struggling.

Doctor Chen’s figure instantly appeared beside the corpse, a specialized cranial drill in her hand.

She skillfully cut open the Mutant Zombie’s skull and extracted a pigeon-egg-sized red Crystal from within.

“Success!”

The team members let out excited cheers.

But Ah Hu did not let his guard down.

“Clean up the battlefield. We’re moving on.”

Over the next few hours, the convoy encountered two more Mutant Zombies.

One was a speed-type, slender but as agile as a phantom.

The other was a defense-type, its skin as hard as steel.

Every battle was exceptionally fierce, and the team members expended a large amount of ammunition to kill them.

But not every Mutant Zombie had a Crystal.

The speed-type’s skull was empty, and only the defense-type yielded a blue Crystal.

As the sun set, the exhausted convoy finally returned to Fragrant Hills International.

Ah Hu placed the three Crystals on the conference room table.

Two red, strength-type Crystals, and one blue, speed-type Crystal.

“Today’s haul.”

His voice carried a hint of fatigue.

“But the cost was high. We used up nearly a third of our ammunition reserves.”

Lin Fan sat in the main seat, dressed in a black, waist-cinching long dress, listening quietly to Ah Hu’s report.

Her fingers tapped lightly on the tabletop, creating a rhythmic sound.

“Three Crystals, twenty people, an entire day.”

Her voice was calm, without a ripple of emotion.

“The efficiency is too low.”

Ah Hu lowered his head, a look of guilt on his face.

“I’m sorry, Lei-jie. We’re not strong enough.”

“It’s not your fault.”

Lin Fan stood up and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window.

“There’s a problem with my plan.”

She turned around, her gaze sweeping over everyone present.

“Let the squad leaders try these three Crystals.”

The three squad leaders took the Crystals and swallowed them without hesitation.

The first leader who swallowed a red Crystal began to tremble violently.

His muscles started to swell, and his bones made cracking sounds.

Ten minutes later, he successfully evolved into a strength-type Evolved being.

But the other two were not so lucky.

Although their bodies also reacted, they eventually returned to normal.

Evolution failed.

“It seems it really is related to aptitude.”

Lin Fan nodded thoughtfully.

“Ah Hu, Zhou Ming, Doctor Chen, the three of you have very strong aptitudes.”

She sat back down in her chair, her fingers resuming their tapping on the table.

“But this hunting efficiency is nowhere near enough to meet our needs.”

The conference room fell silent.

Everyone could feel the dissatisfaction in Lin Fan’s words.

“Starting tomorrow, I’ll go out myself.”

Lin Fan’s voice broke the silence.

“Ah Hu, you and your team will be responsible for digging out the Crystals and handling the aftermath.”

“Leave killing the Mutant Zombies to me.”

A flash of excitement appeared in Ah Hu’s eyes.

If Lei-jie took action personally, their efficiency would definitely multiply.

“Yes, Lei-jie!”

He nodded forcefully, his voice booming.

Lin Fan fell into thought.

Three Crystals, one day.

At this rate, when would she ever be able to build a true army of Evolved beings?

She needed more Crystals.

More Evolved beings.

More power.

Only then could she truly stand at the top of the food chain in this cruel apocalypse.

Tomorrow, she would show these Mutant Zombies what a real hunt looked like.
