Chapter 250: Going Home to Sleep
Chapter 250: Going Home to Sleep
The car stopped downstairs at Ning Wanciu’s building. An Yu was gently shaken awake by Ning Wanciu.
“An Yu, An Yu, time to wake up~”
Her voice was soft and gentle, as if nothing had happened earlier.
“Mm…”
An Yu rubbed her eyes. She did not look like she had slept enough.
That was normal. She had only dozed for a short while before the car arrived.
“We’re here?”
Still not fully awake, An Yu’s voice came out especially soft and sweet.
Her whole body stayed slumped against Ning Wanciu, nuzzling closer every few seconds.
Ning Wanciu’s cheeks flushed. She rarely saw An Yu this soft and clingy.
Although they napped together every day at school, this kind of behavior was truly uncommon.
It was clear An Yu was exhausted and desperately wanted to sleep.
“We’re here… An Yu, let’s get up first.”
“Mm… Ning Wanciu… carry me?”
Hearing Ning Wanciu’s voice, An Yu tried to open her eyes, but she was too sleepy and failed to get up. She asked Ning Wanciu to carry her instead.
Ning Wanciu paused for a moment, then did not refuse.
She opened the car door and lifted An Yu in a princess carry, bringing her out of the vehicle.
An Yu contentedly nuzzled against her chest once more and fell back asleep without even moving her eyelids.
“Hehe~”
Looking at An Yu’s sleeping face, Ning Wanciu shook her head helplessly.
Luckily An Yu was very light and easy to carry. Otherwise it would have been tricky.
“Ah, Dongli, let’s head inside.”
Ning Wanciu looked at Ning Dongli, who had already gotten out of the car and seemed to have been waiting for a while. She spoke softly, a little embarrassed.
“Mm.”
Ning Dongli nodded silently without saying anything else. She simply followed behind Ning Wanciu as they walked toward the house.
However, out of Ning Wanciu’s sight, Ning Dongli stretched out both hands and made a small gesture.
Ugh…
An Yu was so unfair. If it were her, there was no way she could be carried like that!
She had zero advantage! Because she was just as petite as An Yu…
And An Yu seemed to prefer her older sister’s figure anyway.
She stared fixedly at Ning Wanciu’s back, completely absorbed.
Ning Wanciu had an amazing figure—completely different from hers.
Ning Dongli subconsciously looked down. Even through the modest obstruction, she could still see her own toes.
The difference… was bigger than the sky…
Despair flashed in the girl’s light blue eyes.
So unfair. They ate and drank the same things, so why was the gap in height and… there… so huge!
This was the first time in her life that Ning Dongli had ever cared about such things.
But some things were decided by heaven. There was no point in caring.
“Dongli? Dongli?”
Ning Dongli had been spacing out while following Ning Wanciu and did not notice her sister had stopped walking.
“Ah!”
She bumped straight into Ning Wanciu’s back. Her cute little nose almost turned red from the impact.
“Ah, are you okay?”
Ning Wanciu turned around worriedly and saw her tiny little sister rubbing her adorable nose.
“Mm… I-I’m fine.”
Ning Dongli rubbed her nose, her tone carrying a hint of complaint.
Seeing her like this, Ning Wanciu smiled helplessly. “Jeez, I told you to watch where you’re going. Look, we’re already home~”
Ning Wanciu pointed at the house number, her eyes full of fond exasperation.
“Ah… we really are.”
Ning Dongli followed her finger and realized they had indeed arrived.
“Alright, Dongli, stop spacing out. Help me get the keys. I don’t have a free hand right now.”
Still holding An Yu, Ning Wanciu turned sideways and angled the pocket containing the keys toward Ning Dongli.
Ning Dongli blinked. Now she understood why her sister had suddenly stopped and called her.
It was because she was carrying An Yu and could not free her hands…
Ning Dongli’s eyes half-closed in clear speechlessness.
She stepped forward, took the keys from Ning Wanciu’s pocket, and opened the front door.
“Whew… we’re finally home…”
Ning Dongli walked in first. The moment she stepped inside, her whole body relaxed.
After everything that had happened today, she probably would not want to leave the house again for at least a month.
As long as An Yu was not outside, being with her felt happy. But stepping out again brought back that uneasy feeling.
Ning Wanciu followed her inside.
She carried An Yu to the sofa, sat down slowly, and gently laid An Yu across her lap, turning it into a lap pillow.
“Whew…”
Ning Wanciu let out a long breath as well. The two sisters were quite similar in this regard.
She stroked An Yu’s head, the corners of her mouth lifting into a faint smile.
It looked like… An Yu had fallen back asleep.
Today… they really owed everything to An Yu.
If An Yu had not protected Ning Dongli, Ning Wanciu did not dare imagine what might have happened.
Ning Dongli had only just gathered the courage to leave her room, and the very first time she went out properly, she had run into those animals.
Was Ning Dongli just unlucky? Or was it something else?
Was this a trial she was destined to face in life?
Thank goodness… An Yu had been there.
Ning Wanciu pressed her lips together. Her fondness for An Yu surged even higher.
Not that it had not already been maxed out.
She lifted her head, no longer looking at An Yu, and turned her gaze toward Ning Dongli standing nearby.
Ning Dongli keenly noticed the worry in her older sister’s eyes.
She was not surprised. That was just how Ning Wanciu was… always worrying about her little sister.
So Ning Dongli decided to be completely honest.
In this matter, she would not lie to Ning Wanciu.
“Sis… today, I was really scared.”
Ning Dongli stood in place, one hand holding her arm. Her expression darkened as if recalling something, and her body trembled slightly.
“Dongli…”
Ning Wanciu paused, about to comfort her, but Ning Dongli stopped her.
“But someone saved me when I was the most scared.”
Ning Dongli looked up. The darkness on her face turned into a gentle smile.
“When I saw those guys, I was truly terrified. So scared I wanted to disappear on the spot.”
Ning Dongli spoke calmly. She wanted to tell her sister everything.
“Sis, do you know what Lin Hao said to me?”
Ning Dongli paused, the corners of her mouth pulling into a mocking curve.
“He said that once I went back to school, he would take care of me.
Because he had promised… our mother.”
Ning Wanciu frowned. The mention of “going back to school” gave her a bad feeling.
