Chapter 27: Never Even Tasted Pork Before

Chapter 27: Never Had Pork Before

Behind Yuan Bao, there was indeed a dark, sturdy, chubby little kid following,

He looked pretty young.

"How old is he?"

Yuan Bao quickly answered,

"This child has no name. When the villagers sold him, they all called him Gou Dan. He looks about fourteen years old. Even the slave trader doesn't know how old he is."

"Gou Dan isn't a good name."

A name popped into Yun Ran's head,

"From now on, you'll be called Debiao. You'll take my surname—Dan Debiao."

Yuan Bao's eyes widened.

Goodness, this little kid's ancestors didn't just have a wisp of smoke rising from their graves—the whole mountain must be ablaze.

"Thank you, Master, for buying Debiao. Debiao will work hard."

"Master, Debiao is hungry."

Yuan Bao quickly covered his mouth. Goodness, how did we end up buying a bottomless pit?

"If you're hungry, then eat! Working for your master, you must eat your fill."

Yun Ran waved his hand grandly,

"Come on, let's hit the restaurant!"

Yuan Bao's chubby face broke into the brightest smile. It was great following the master—good food, good drink, and a trip to the restaurant, and the best part was he didn't have to pay a cent himself.

Yun Ran glanced at him and sighed inwardly.

Indeed, no one can resist the allure of a free meal on someone else's dime.

Gourmet Pavilion—

In the private room on the second floor,

Yuan Bao stood to the side, and Debiao didn't dare sit either. Yun Ran sat alone at the huge table, and the atmosphere among the three was awkward and tense.

Yuan Bao wiped away cold sweat. When Debiao wasn't around, he could seize the chance to flatter the master and strengthen the bond between master and eunuch.

With this big black wooden post standing here, how was he supposed to flatter anyone!

The wooden post himself—Debiao—had no self-awareness whatsoever. He just clutched his empty stomach and stared intently at the door that the waiter might open any moment with the dishes.

"Food's here~ Sorry to keep you waiting, folks!"

The waiter quickly set out a full table of dishes and was about to leave when he was stopped.

"Hey, waiter, hold on."

Yuan Bao pulled out a piece of silver and tossed it to him. The waiter caught it quickly and thanked him repeatedly.

"Let me ask you, how long has this Gourmet Pavilion been open?"

The waiter perked up at this question, clearly eager to answer. He puffed out his chest proudly,

"Our Gourmet Pavilion is just one year shy of being a century-old establishment. It's where all the big shots in the capital hang out."

One year shy of a century-old establishment? Another useless gimmick to add to the list.

Yun Ran rolled his eyes in annoyance.

Big shots?

Looks like this is competition for the high-end restaurant I'm planning to open.

"Alright, you can leave now."

After the waiter left, Yun Ran picked up his chopsticks, ready to savor each dish carefully.

Yuan Bao, standing nearby, was about to take Debiao downstairs to find a seat when Yun Ran stopped him.

"Eat right here. Set up a small table. I don't eat much, and eating alone is boring."

Yuan Bao stayed, tears of gratitude in his eyes, and Debiao obediently stood to the side, repeating himself over and over,

"Thank you, Master. Thank you, Master."

His dark face still wore a simple, honest, goofy grin.

"Grrrruuuumble!"

Debiao's stomach suddenly growled.

"Have a pig's trotter to hold you over."

Yun Ran picked out a piece of what looked like a pale, white pig's trotter and set it aside for himself.

He gave a piece to Yuan Bao to taste, and the rest went to Debiao.

Debiao sat at the small table, grabbed the trotter, and started gnawing on it, taking big mouthfuls, which made Yuan Bao hungry just watching.

"Grrruuumble~"

Yuan Bao's stomach couldn't help but growl as well.

"Yuan Bao, you eat too. When you're done, tell your master if it's good and what it tastes like."

Yuan Bao picked up a piece of trotter with his chopsticks, still coated in the milky white broth it had been stewed in, and took a bite.

The taste wasn't anything special—just very soft and tender. On closer savoring, he could detect a faint hint of that gamey pork smell.

"Is it good, Debiao?"

"It's delicious! Master, Debiao has never had meat before. This is really good."
