After buying a mountain of groceries, we came home and froze in place at the entrance.
Something was mounted on the roof. Against the dark autumn sky, lit by the moon, stood a giant chicken. Its wings spread, its body leaning forward, it looked like one of those hood ornaments on a Rolls-Royce.
Around its neck hung a sign written in awful writing: WELCOME TO THE MANSION OF TERROR.
The plate was crooked, paint dripping everywhere. The whole thing screamed low quality.
A surprise, huh.
“Not going in?”

Swaying from side to side, Eu stepped forward.

I followed after Eu toward the door. Looking closer, I saw something else behind the plate. A guillotine blade?
A rope dangled from it, and when I followed it with my eyes, I saw it was caught in the front door. Meaning, if the door opened, the blade would drop.
