Lilia tapped a finger to her lips, looked up as she searched her memory, then brightened. “Like someone who hates century eggs suddenly finding they can’t swallow anything but century eggs. I felt really sorry about that one.”
That’s way too cruel!
“What about water?” Sera asked, pity written on her face. She still wasn’t eating meat, so I dropped a slice I’d swished into her small bowl.
Cutting her off would be rude. Without a word, Sera gave me a tiny bow and a gentle smile. Her slightly flushed cheeks made her look like an adorable girl.
She wasn’t the Sera I knew, but I guess this wasn’t bad once in a while.
“Water didn’t work either. So I’m sorry.”
Brutal. Surviving on eggs alone?
In some ways, maybe I had it easier. A curse that erased memories wasn’t all downside.
“Then how did they stay alive?”
