And so, the day of the cooking competition arrived.
The circular venue looked like a coliseum, packed wall to wall with hundreds of spectators.
“The Trash-Talking Cooking Competition is back again this year! What kind of dishes will we see this time?”
The announcer, a blond young man in a bow tie who looked like a pro-wrestling referee, was Anderson, a guy who went to the same school as me.
Where the announcer stood was a mountain of ingredients—vegetables, meat, seafood, you name it. Anyone could tell at a glance that just about every ingredient imaginable was there.
At the judges’ table sat three men.
“Presiding as head judge, of course, is this man. The path of a sadist is sadistic.
One of Japan’s Three Great Tsunderes, Chef Unabara!”
A tough-looking older man with slicked-back, grizzled hair gave a brief nod.
“Next up, France’s rising star of masochism: Pierre Orito!”
