DANNEN (DENGLAND)
DANNEN (DENGLAND)
The Kingdom of Dannen, Dengland in the Danner language, is one of the oldest continuously existing nations in the known world. It was first founded by Gorm Knutsson during the Middle Ages of the Karlo Era, a nation built on raids, mercenary coin, and trades in northern exotics. Its land was small and destitute, a union of homesteads and wooden forts rather than the grandiose cities and castles their Europer counterparts enjoyed, but it was these struggles which forced them to sail the winds of change rather than wait for it to come to them. When Cnut Sweynsson ascended the throne, he led an elite expeditionary force into the North Sea, unifying the original Three Crowns of Dannen, Norwezhen, and Anglen solely through military might. With the gold he plundered and taxed from his subjects, he funded a voyage that led to the discovery of the New World. The wealth Dannen harvested from its newfound colony fuelled its many ambitions. However, another king ended this bloodthirsty plight, not out of compassion but out of fear. Carl von Glücksburg was the king of Dannen and the head of the Three Crowns throughout most of the Second Calamity. Knowing that his armies were no match for his southern neighbour, whom he often strove to appease, he isolated himself and began an age that would define Dannen’s modern era. For the next seventy years, migrants were denied entry, trade was turned away, and languages were forgotten. While the rest of the world may have spoken one universal tongue and dealt in foreign goods, the Danner became strangers to this concept.
