Chapter 19.2
Chapter 19.2
Lily was an HR expert. This speech was fact but also painting a big picture. Wen Yi listened to half of it. “Sister Lily, I understand.” She could also paint a picture. “I am already prepared. During my time in the post I will carefully complete the work. Sister Lily, I am a newcomer in HR. I hope you will not stint on teaching me.”
“That is natural.”
When she came out of the office, Jiang Yu came over to her new desk. “What did Sister Lily talk about with you for so long?”
Jiang Yu was about the same age as her and was the head of the recruitment group. Usually when young medical representatives went for second interviews and he could not find middle management, he always liked to find her. Wen Yi was easy to talk to and had helped him a lot. This time it was his turn to help her. All the internal study materials had been sent by him.
Jiang Yu’s personality was straightforward like a big boy. Wen Yi joked, “If you want to know, go ask Sister Lily yourself.”
“Do not get cocky. You will have hard times later. Do you think BP is easy to do?”
Wen Yi had previously done business, somewhat like Party A and Party B with HRBP. She was Party A and BP was Party B. Now she had become Party B and had to take care of Party A from all four districts of Shen City at once. Of course it was not easy.
She said modestly, “Please Manager Jiang take pity and recruit more talent for our several districts.”
“No problem. Treat tonight.”
“Treat, treat, treat.”
Having received the promise, Jiang Yu said with a sly smile, “By the way, I forgot to tell you. BP also has to participate in recruitment work. Wait for my arrangement.”
“…” Tonight Manager Jiang would sit at a table by himself.
“Aiya, Manager Wen is too polite.”
“Hurry up and get lost.”
Jiang Yu: “Pregnant women must keep a peaceful state of mind. Avoid irritability and anger.”
Wen Yi made a hitting motion with a folder. Jiang Yu dodged while leaving.
On the first day of her new post Wen Yi could not even drink a few mouthfuls of water. In the morning there was a large meeting. In the afternoon she held a small meeting with her four regional BPs. Among them the eastern district BP Zhang Xiaolan was familiar with her and helped her a lot.
Wen Yi deeply felt that whether in society or the workplace, one more friend meant one more path. If not for Jiang Yu and Zhang Xiaolan, she alone would have charged into HR and certainly been swallowed until flesh and bone could not be distinguished.
She was treating colleagues to dinner in the evening and had told Qin Nanshan in advance, yet he still sent a message asking whether she had finished work, where they were gathering, and to tell him.
Wen Yi looked at this message, clicked her tongue, and curved the corner of her mouth. Professor Qin’s change was considerable. He had learned to care about people.
She replied: [Getting ready. Going to Longwan Pavilion. Not drinking. I can go back by myself.]
Then she felt their chat was too dry, so she searched for a cute dog emoji that said “no need to wait for me” and sent it over.
But the two messages sank like stones in the sea. Only when she finished work and walked outside did she receive a single cold reply: [All right.]
The moment Wen Yi saw the message she took back her previous evaluation, threw it into the shredder, and shredded it! What change? Not the slightest change!
…
At six the sunset was pleasant. The university campus was lively and warm. On the basketball court the harsh sound of sneakers rubbing the floor was moving.
The mathematics department office gradually emptied. Teacher Wang raised his head to stretch his muscles and glanced. There was still someone in the innermost spot. He asked, “Teacher Qin, do you have class tonight?”
Qin Nanshan’s gaze moved away from the dog emoji on the screen and replied gently, “No.”
“Then why not go home?” Teacher Wang boldly joked with him. “You just got married. Wife, child, and a warm bed. Why stay at school after work?”
“My wife is working overtime.” The man whose face was usually calm revealed a fleeting smile. Wang Qin thought he had seen wrong. Looking carefully again, there was indeed none.
Although there was no smile, Wang Qin had worked with him for more than two years and keenly felt that Qin Nanshan’s mood at this moment should be quite good. He therefore tested, “Teacher Qin, the list for this semester’s ‘Famous Teacher Lecture Hall’ has come down. I am scheduled for this Friday, but at home it happens to be my mother-in-law’s birthday. Is it convenient on your side? Shall we switch?”
“All right.”
Indeed his mood was very good. In the past when there were similar requests Qin Nanshan generally would not refuse, but he would consider for a few minutes. Today he did not think for even a second and directly agreed!
Wang Qin thanked him and took over a box of small cakes he had bought for his wife while eating just now. “The female teachers all say this cake is delicious. I bought too many. Here is a box for you.”
Qin Nanshan politely declined. Wang Qin smiled easily. “No need to be polite. I know you do not eat it, but women all love sweets. Take it back for your wife.”
He hesitated for a moment and accepted. “Thank you.”
Qin Nanshan arrived home at nine. The house was dim. Wen Yi had not returned yet. He glanced at his phone, then put it down, and did not urge her.
After feeding Xia Tian and finishing his shower, he sat in the second bedroom for a while. Finally there was movement at the door.
He went out to look. Wen Yi was holding the shoe cabinet with one hand and standing on one foot to slip on slippers, swaying unsteadily. The neatly arranged shoes under the shoe cabinet had also been messed up by her.
Qin Nanshan walked over and supported her. The smell of alcohol on her was strong, making him frown.
Wen Yi leaned on his hand to put on the slippers while speaking. “Young people nowadays are too frightening. If I were not pregnant, I do not know whether I could have made it back tonight.”
Qin Nanshan: “Administration also has to socialize?”
“No need. It is just that without leaders present everyone is happy.” Wen Yi put on the slippers, put down her bag, and went inside.
Qin Nanshan straightened the shoes, then hung her bag on the rack and followed in.
Wen Yi was already looking for clothes to shower. He asked, “You cannot even stand steady. Can you shower?”
Wen Yi’s balance had been poor since childhood, but Qin Nanshan seemed to have misunderstood something. Her brows and eyes curved. “Cannot stand steady. Will you help me wash?”
Qin Nanshan furrowed his brows and very unromantically ignored her suggestion. “There is a rod in the bathroom. Hold onto it a bit.”
Wen Yi turned back to take underwear and hummed softly, “What is there to be shy about between husband and wife?” She still wanted to look at and touch his mouth-watering little abs again.
When she turned back the person at the doorway had already disappeared. Tsk, he ran really fast.
After showering and coming out, he appeared on the bed again and gestured for her to look at the nightstand. “Your delivery. It looks like clothes. I brought it in.”
Wen Yi bought too many deliveries, especially after the delivery business recovered after the New Year. Before he started work he was forced every evening to walk the dog and incidentally help her collect deliveries. One or two, two or three. Once there were seven. He had to borrow a small cart from the security uncle to pull them all.
But most were things bought for the baby. For one milk bottle she bought four types. She said the child needed different milk bottles at every stage and had to change after using for a period.
These were all experiences she learned from various mothers’ groups and public accounts. Before sleeping at night she loved looking at these things. When she got interested she would even pull him into discussion and consultation about which color and material were good. So these deliveries had half his effort.
Wen Yi did not remember what delivery she had bought. It was probably clothes for the baby. She sat on the edge of the bed to open it. After opening she held it up and turned her head in surprise. “Your pajamas have arrived!”
“???”
Qin Nanshan looked again at the clothes printed all over with colorful unknown animals. The corners of his eyes contracted and he could not speak.
“Do you not like dogs? This is Snoopy. It is also a dog. How cute.” As she spoke she rummaged in the packaging bag and pulled out a child-sized version of the same proportion. “I bought a set for the baby too! Father-daughter matching outfits!”
“…”
“Go try it on.”
Qin Nanshan refused with difficulty. “Wen Yi…”
“Aiya, clothes that are only worn for me to see at home and not worn outside. What difference does it make what you wear? The material is very good. Two hundred for a set. Hurry and try.”
Qin Nanshan naturally could not outtalk Wen Yi. He resignedly took the clothes to change. Wen Yi had a flash of inspiration. “Just change here. Changing the top is enough.”
That lustful gaze made no attempt to hide and stared straight at him. Qin Nanshan sighed helplessly, stood by the head of the bed, and put on this childish pajamas.
Wen Yi’s eyes had never been this wide in her life. Unfortunately his movements were too fast. The fragrant body only appeared for two seconds. Before she could count whether it was eight or six pieces it was already covered by Snoopy.
She felt great regret in her heart and thought next time she would buy him a transparent one and let him be king for a while.
Wen Yi said pitifully, “Why change so fast…”
Qin Nanshan exposed her. “What exactly do you want to see?”
Wen Yi wished he would expose her and grinned. “I want to see everything.”
Yet he was as conservative as people from the feudal era. He ruthlessly picked up the original black pajamas again and went out to change. Wen Yi hatedly waved her fist at his back and thought in her heart, sooner or later I will eat you clean!
But the next second she remembered the main matter and suddenly shouted, “Ah ah Qin Nanshan! I still have not seen you wearing Snoopy! Come back!”
The person had already gone far.
Forget it, forget it. The clothes had been bought. There would be plenty of chances.
When Qin Nanshan came in again he had an extra box in his hand and handed it to her. Wen Yi saw clearly what it was. Those fluctuating hormones rose again and she smiled sweetly. “You bought it for me?”
He said, “No. A colleague gave it.”
“…”
Wen Yi’s smile stiffened for two seconds. Her brain repeatedly told herself that the present Qin Nanshan who could bring back a cake given by a colleague already surpassed 99 percent of the past Qin Nanshan. It was worth being gratified.
But she still educated him. “You can say it is what you bought for me. I would not know. A white lie can exchange for more happiness.”
“Are you very happy?”
“All right.” She liked surprises. This cake indeed gave her a little bit of surprise.
He stared at the person and slowly said, “Then next time I will buy one for you.”
