Chapter 35: Isn't Coming to This Wedding Banquet Just to Climb the Social Ladder?
Wen Yu lay on the bed, lying on his back, staring at the ceiling.
His college counselor suddenly sent a message: [Wen Yu, I heard from Teacher Fang that you're feeling unwell. I'll approve two days of leave for you.]
Wen Yu wore shorts, revealing his slender, fair calves, and his waist was also exposed, with a soft, plump quality.
His phone had somehow switched to the chat screen with Gu Junhan.
"Yu Bu Jia Tang: Even sitting on a chair hurts today, Gu Junhan."
At that moment, Gu Junhan was working from home, picking up the financial reports of ZAOHUA GROUP. Two buttons of his dress shirt were undone. Wen Yu's message seemed to hold an irresistible allure, leaving Gu Junhan, usually a total workaholic, completely helpless.
Wen Yu said he was sore—was he being cute?
"Gu Junhan: Are you being cute?"
Wen Yu pressed his chest into the soft bed, phone resting on the mattress, swiping the screen with just two fingers.
"Yu Bu Jia Tang: I just think, maybe next time you could go easier. Even my counselor told me to take leave."
When Wen Yu said "go easier," Gu Junhan thought it over: easier—not happening.
"Gu Junhan: Okay."
Wen Yu clutched his phone, his eyes going blurry as he dozed off.
In the video, Wen Yu's pale waist was on full display. The dormitory had a private room, and Wen Yu naturally took off his shorts, lying on his stomach, head turned, his hair splayed softly over the white sheets.
Gu Junhan stared for a long while before shutting the screen off.
Most people couldn't pull off installing surveillance cameras like this—one in the dorm, one in Wen Yu's room at the Wen house, and he even had his own cousin keeping tabs on Wen Yu's every move.
So he had physical surveillance, plus a human spy.
If he didn't mind seeing a bunch of randoms, he'd have hacked into the classroom cameras too.
A man like this—the mastermind behind ZAOHUA GROUP, the crime boss ruling the underworld across both the Eastern and Western Continents.
No one would ever guess he was this messed up.
..
A few days earlier, Wen Yu had followed Wen Baichuan's orders and snagged that imperial green jade bracelet—though he hadn't used the family's money.
Wen Baichuan noticed how fidgety Wen Yu had been lately. "Why'd you bring back so many auction pieces that day, Wen Yu?"
Wen Yu took the suit the butler, Wang Shoucheng, had laid out for him. "I bid on them."
"Didn't I give you fifty million? And you bid on stuff worth two billion?" Wen Baichuan pressed on.
"I... I have money." Wen Yu stammered.
Wen Baichuan frowned. Wen Yu didn't invest, and he wasn't some corrupt official—so where'd he get that kind of cash?
And for something worth two billion, no less.
"What are you keeping from me?" Wen Baichuan spoke.
Wen Yu confessed, "I... that was given by my friend."
"Friend? I've never met a friend that generous. You have?"
Wen Baichuan just gave him a warning.
"Wen Yu, however you got it, don't forget you're a Wen."
Wen Yu nodded.
Wen Baichuan glanced at him. "Alright, get dressed and go to your cousin's wedding."
"Yes, Dad."
The wedding hall was loud and chaotic—laughter and clinking glasses all blending together.
Once inside, Wen Yu tucked himself into a corner alone.
The Wen family was something else. The star of this wedding was Wen Yu's cousin—but they weren't actually related by blood.
She was from the family of the woman his dad married after divorcing his birth mom.
Wen Yu had never met his dad's new wife. Apparently she was some movie star, always off filming and never coming back to the Wen house.
The young man leaned against a Roman pillar at the edge of the hall, holding a glass of deep red wine. Wen Yu took a tiny sip—it was sweet.
But he couldn't drink much of it.
It was a little too strong.
The cousin-in-law, the groom, was working the room, toasting guests with a smile, his eyes drifting toward Wen Yu every now and then.
Wen Yu had soft, gentle features, and the line of his neck was clean and sharp.
The cousin-in-law suddenly closed in, rough fingers grabbing Wen Yu's wrist, reeking of booze and cigarettes.
"Pretty boy, why you all alone? Don't recognize you—you here to crash the party?"
Wen Yu pulled his hand back politely and stepped away.
"I... I'm on the bride's side."
The cousin-in-law kept eyeing him. "Bride's side? One of Xiaoxiao's people?"
"What's your name?"
The guy kept staring Wen Yu down.
Wen Yu was soft-natured and had no clue the guy was fishing for info. "Wen... Wen Yu."
The cousin-in-law smiled, inching closer, his hand creeping along Wen Yu's sleeve toward his inner arm. "So you're that hick cousin from the countryside. You're pretty cute."
Wen Yu could feel the guy's hot, gross breath in his ear. The touch crept higher, and when he struggled, the guy's fingers only got bolder. Nobody around even noticed Wen Yu.
The cousin-in-law gave a nasty grin. "I hear you've never seen the good stuff. Let your brother-in-law show you."
Wen Yu shoved him off and bolted, but the guy chased after him and backed him into a corner.
"Let go... get off me!"
Wen Yu was completely panicking, and before he knew it, the cousin-in-law had him pinned against the wall.
“Hahaha, what a fierce little temper! You only came for our family’s money, didn’t you?”
“Coming to this wedding, isn’t it just to marry up? How about you come with me? I’ll pay you a million a month.”
He sneered, “I hear the Wen family only gives you a hundred thousand a month. You’re treated worse than an adopted son—Wen Qingshi gets eight hundred thousand a month.”
Wen Yu’s eyes were filled with terror and an unspeakable humiliation, his whole body trembling uncontrollably. The places the man had touched felt filthy. “No.”
The cousin-in-law laughed at those two words. His fingers deliberately slid down, boldly grazing the edge of Wen Yu’s collar, grabbing his hand, and pressing his disgusting mouth closer.
“Just come with me. For a country boy like you, being my plaything is already an honor!”
Wen Yu swallowed the bitterness in his throat, his pale lips trembling. “I… I’m Shen Yubai’s fiancé! You can’t do this! I’m not some kept man.”
The cousin-in-law gripped Wen Yu’s neck, watching him struggle for breath. “What’s Shen Yubai going to do about it? Everyone knows the Shen family’s eldest son and Miss He are a couple.”
“You’re just a shield. Did you really think you were the young madam of the Shen family?”
Wen Yu yanked his wrist back desperately, back tensing, flailing his arms wildly—
A sharp crack rang out as his hand connected with the man’s face.
The man glared at him viciously. “Damn it! You little bitch! You dare hit me?”
Wen Yu’s vision started to blur.
The man kicked him. In his despair,
his will to survive overpowered his fear.
“Get off me! Don’t…”
Then Wen Yu remembered something—Gu Junhan had said he could use anything around him to defend himself.
There was a bottle of wine on the nearby table.
As the man leaned in, lowering his head,
Wen Yu struggled fiercely, grabbed the bottle, and smashed it against his head!
A loud *bang* echoed, the shattering of glass ringing through the cramped space, piercing and heart-stopping.
Seizing the moment, Wen Yu fled to his cousin’s dressing room.
Cold sweat on his forehead mixed with the streaks of tears he’d already cried.
“Cousin!” Wen Yu nearly threw himself at her. “Your husband—he’s trying to…”
The smile on his cousin’s face froze. She looked at him in confusion. “What’s wrong? What happened?”
The cousin-in-law followed, his head bleeding from the blow.
“He!” Wen Yu’s eyes were red with fury and tears, pointing at that disgusting man in fear and anger. “He molested me!”
