Chapter 4: I Am

Chapter 4: I Am the Young Master?

"Young master! I finally found you!"

The dignified middle-aged man in front of him compared the photo in his hand.

Wen Yu hadn't expected that a trip to the county town would land him being harassed by a man who was half-blind and slipping into senility.

He'd finally managed to buy a cake—something he hadn't had in a year—and now he clutched it tightly to his chest.

The middle-aged man stood by the car door, his right hand resting on the handle, not rushing to open it.

The young man before him looked just like Old Master Wen did in his youth—just as gentle and refined, but without that sharp, cutthroat business edge.

"Young master, why don't you get in the car first? The Old Master and the eldest young master have really missed you."

The middle-aged man looked at Wen Yu's cheap street-market clothes and thought to himself: The young master must have suffered so much out there! My poor little young master!

Wen Yu stared at the car, couldn't tell what made it different from any other car, except for some logo he didn't recognize. He took a few steps back.

He had heard the villagers say before—this was textbook fraud! A pig-butchering scam!

"This car..." Wen Yu gulped, clutching the cake to his chest.

Only then did the middle-aged man realize he'd been too forward. He held a document folder and opened it to reveal a paternity test.

"I know it's a lot to take in, but you are our long-lost young master of Wen's Group. This car's a two-million-yuan Porsche, so it's a bit beneath you, I'll admit."

Seeing how sincere the guy seemed, Wen Yu shifted the cake to his other hand and took the report.

Wen Yu was doubtful. Sure, he was naive and easy to fool, but he couldn't just accept someone suddenly showing up and saying, "Young master, your old servant has finally found you!"—that was just too much!

"So you're saying I'm a city boy?" Wen Yu asked in disbelief. "Where'd you even get my blood sample to fake a paternity test like that?"

The middle-aged man felt gratified inside, thinking: He really has the Wen blood in him—so cautious! Even after all these years out there, he's not blinded by money.

Anyone else would've hopped in the car and gone home by now.

"You gave a blood sample three months ago at the private hospital in this county. The Old Master was sick at the time, and the eldest young master was still in Xizhou. They were just checking for a possible match, and out of nowhere, there you were."

"The Wen family has a rare blood type, so they could only hope to find someone compatible. But when the eldest young master rushed back, your info got forgotten."

"Recently, the Old Master woke up and heard about it. How could there be such a coincidence in this world? The moment he saw your photo, he was so happy he couldn't sleep for three whole days and nights!"

Wen Yu took in bits and pieces of it. He did have the surname Wen—he'd had a longevity lock on him back then, engraved with the name "Wen Yu."

He had escaped from the human traffickers when he was young, too young to remember what his parents looked like, and was raised by his grandfather.

His grandfather was also surnamed Wen. He had said that when he found Wen Yu, the boy was all skin and bones from hunger. He looked at the longevity lock and said it must be fate.

Wen Yu, Wen Yu—he knew nothing, carrying too much emotional baggage.

His grandfather had once had a son, but that son had offended someone and hadn't returned to see him in thirty years. Grandfather died without ever seeing him again.

Wen Yu snapped back to reality and, after hesitating, got in the car.

The car was still parked in that small county town. From a distance it looked black, but up close it was a deep, bluish-black.

The middle-aged man didn't wait for Wen Yu to say anything before telling the driver to go. "Young master, my name is Wang—Wang Shoucheng. I'm the steward of the Wen family's old estate."

"Steward? Uncle Wang?" Wen Yu thought of something. "So is there an Auntie Wang?"

He used to scroll through short dramas on his beat-up old phone.

In those shows, there was always an Auntie Wang, an Auntie Zhang, an Auntie Li.

Wang Shoucheng's face crinkled into a warm smile. He was also a big fan of short dramas. "Young master, if you're interested, you can ask the Old Master about investing in short dramas when we get back. He'd definitely be up for it."

Wen Yu lowered his head, pressing his hands into his thighs. "I... what is my father like? And what is my family like..."

He craved parental love. In his childhood, watching the neighbors' uncles and aunties take their kids to amusement parks, he always worried deep down if anyone would ever accept him.

He had never been to one. Kids his age all laughed at him, saying he was from the poorest family in the village—couldn't even go out to play, let alone know where his parents had run off to.

Wang Shoucheng picked up a tablet from the car, pulled up some files, and handed it to him. "The Old Master is fifty-three. You've got an eldest brother who's thirty-one, and a second brother who's the same age as you."

"Same age? So is my second brother my twin?" Wen Yu asked curiously.

"The second young master is adopted. After you were taken by traffickers, the Old Master adopted him out of longing for you." Wang Shoucheng answered honestly.

Wen Yu nodded vaguely. There was some unfamiliar scent in the car—something he'd never smelled before. He rested his head against the headrest, tilting it slightly, the black gold card Gu Junhan had given him still tucked away in his pocket.

He'd seen bank cards before and liked the colorful ones. The one Gu Junhan gave him looked dull and boring.

And the phone Gu Junhan had given him only had one saved contact. He didn't dare call it—what if it was some important person's number to Gu Junhan?

It was Gu Junhan's phone. Even though he'd given it to him, in Wen Yu's eyes, it was still his.

The Wen family wasn't top-tier in S Country, but they were still a wealthy, prestigious upper-class family.

The car left the highway and turned onto a private road with no signs.

Wen Yu felt a pang of panic, like he was being taken somewhere to get his organs harvested. But after a full three minutes of driving, he finally saw the cast-iron gate with the family crest on it.

Only then did he let out a sigh of relief. Was he really some lost young master of a rich family?

Someone in the village who'd seen the world once said that city folks came in all kinds—those with big iron gates, big houses, and villas were the upper class.

So after over a decade of hardship, he was only now finding out he was a kid from high society.

Walking in, it was grand, huge, beautiful, and full of people—all dressed in matching uniforms.

As the car drove in, the sound marked the start of Wen Yu's arrival at the Wen estate.

"The young master has returned—"

Wang Shoucheng opened the passenger door. His dark gray suit was immaculate, not a single wrinkle. He got out, then walked around to the back door and opened it.

Wen Yu's foot came out first, in a battered shoe with loose laces, the sole caked with mud from some unknown street.

He was wearing a white shirt and ripped jeans.

In front of him stood a row of servants with their hands at their sides; behind him, a luxury car that screamed his status.

He was overwhelmed by the sight, watching as Wang Shoucheng gestured for him to go ahead. "Young master, just head straight in."

Wen Yu had never seen nearly twenty people part ways for him like this. He closed his eyes and bolted forward.

Once he stepped inside, in the first-floor lobby, two maids were already waiting there, one holding a dark blue jacket, the other holding a pair of polished leather slippers.

As he walked, a servant behind him quickly slipped off his old shoes. Wen Yu flinched, nearly losing his balance.

Wang Shoucheng waved from the side, motioning for a chair to be brought over.

Within seconds, a chair was placed behind Wen Yu. Wang Shoucheng carefully picked up the clothes nearby and spoke to the servants, "The young master hasn't bathed yet—why are you bringing out the clothes already?"

Another servant knelt down, picked up the slippers, and placed them at Wen Yu's feet.

Wen Yu stood up, and Wang Shoucheng said, "Young master, please go up to the second floor."

He walked through the hallway and started up the stairs.

At the end of the corridor on the second floor, his room's door was already open.

Wen Yu spoke slowly, "This is my room? It's so big."

Wang Shoucheng nodded, "The young master has worked hard all these years. The master specifically had this room connected to the one next door, turning it into a dressing room just for you."

Someone stood outside the bathroom in the room.

It was an elderly maid, wearing a dark apron, her hair neatly pinned back.

"Young master, the hot water is ready."

Wen Yu peeked inside and saw it—such a huge bathtub!!!

It was like stumbling from a hillbilly channel straight into a Wall Street one!
