Chapter 13
Chapter 13
The Duke himself was an apprentice who had graduated from Moldova College. Because he failed to become an official mage, he simply gave up on the path of a mage and came to this island to become a noble. He began to do his best to train the younger generation, hoping that one of his children would be able to realize his dream.
Because of his experience in the academy, he especially understood the importance of talent in the apprenticeship stage. Although in the eyes of official mages, talent was useless and knowledge was the most useful, it was only because their level had increased, and their perspective on problems had also changed.
After the banquet ended, Duke Alfred gave William a lot of advice and told him about the people that the mages had mentioned. He also told him that befriending these people would be of great help to his path as an apprentice.
The few people in the North were not in a hurry to rest. They excitedly gathered together to study the ring, their strong curiosity making them impatient to test it out.
"But we haven't mastered the runes yet. Can we activate spells?" Corestal's eyes were full of little stars, and she asked with a little hesitation in her excitement.
Adam had an unparalleled interest in the ring, and for the first time ever, he took the initiative to say, "Definitely. This ring is equivalent to a crossbow with an arrow already installed. We don't need to know how this crossbow works, we just need to pull the trigger. I'm guessing that the force that pulls the trigger is spiritual power. "
Sam Eden's face was flushed red. He was happy that he had obtained such a treasure, but he still knew what was good for him and did not get carried away. He took the initiative to say, "Miss Ophelia, please test it out."
Ophelia shook her head and motioned for Sam to test it out himself. At this time, it was Adam who spoke again, "Can I test it out?"
Perhaps it was because of that idiot called Tom's mockery of the North that Sam felt a trace of belonging to his identity as a Northlander. He did not refuse Adam and generously handed the ring over. "Of course," he said.
This ring was made of gold. Although the craftsmanship was exquisite, there was nothing unusual about it. It was inlaid with a red gem that was emitting a faint light under the night sky.
If William Alfred wasn't lying, there should be a set of spell runes in the ring. Adam was so active because he wanted to pry into the structure of the spell runes. He also wanted to verify one thing — whether the spell was activated by mental power or another kind of energy.
"Detected the existence of the second special energy fluctuation."
Adam came to a realization. Sure enough, Spiritual Force was just a kind of transmission channel. It was the second special energy that could launch spells, which was a higher level of energy produced by the interaction between Spiritual Force and an unknown external medium.
"In other words, the spirit power solidification rune is equivalent to a meditation technique. Its purpose is to strengthen the spirit power until it can freely contact the medium and carry the higher level of energy that is produced."
The term "meditation technique" came from the incomplete information that Adam obtained after eliminating the virus. Most of this kind of information was classified as junk data by Adam. He did not expect that it would be useful as a reference.
Ophelia and the others did not know that Adam had come to a preliminary conclusion in a short time. They only saw Adam rubbing the ruby with his fingers and thought that he was thinking about how to activate the magic item.
After the preliminary verification of the second question, Adam tried to infuse his Spiritual Force into the gem, trying to pry into the rune arrangement of the level-5 spell called "Fireball."
However, he did not succeed. When his Spiritual Force entered the gem, an astonishingly high temperature appeared in front of Adam. Everyone was shocked. They felt an intense burning sensation. At this moment, they even thought that they were in the middle of a volcano.
Adam hurriedly raised his hand and pointed to the sky. A second later, an orange fireball the size of a basketball shot into the sky and exploded more than 055 meters away.
"The temperature is about 6,555 degrees Celsius. It has reached the level of magma."
After the fireball was activated, the ruby dimmed. Everyone looked at the ring in disbelief. It was hard to imagine that such a high-temperature fireball could be emitted from such a small ring. What was more frightening was that this was only a low-level magic item, and the rune was only a level-5 Fireball.
"Is this the power of magic? The power of a mage? This is amazing! " Everyone was amazed. This was the first time they had seen magic. Flying was a dream, and the fireball spell was a direct demonstration of power.
"No wonder the mages don't care about the knights. This is only a low-level spell. I'm afraid the knights can't resist it. If it's a little stronger, and there are more of them, a grand knight …" Mike Gast muttered to himself and stopped. After all, there was a grand knight beside him.
Ophelia nodded and admitted without hesitation, "It's impossible to resist. If you're hit, you'll definitely die."
Sam Eden looked at the dim ruby with a pained expression. He was afraid that this magic item was a one-time use. If it was, it would be a waste to use it in this kind of experiment.
"The spell rune group has been encrypted to a certain extent. Without effective means, it's impossible to spy on it." Adam was thinking about his own matters as he took off the ring and returned it to Sam with some regret. Seeing the mournful look on his face, he explained, "This ring is not a one-time use item, but it should have a cooldown period to recharge. I speculate that mental power can speed up the process to a certain extent."
Without mentioning Sam, who was playing with the ring lovingly, and the others who were envious of him, Adam went back to his room alone and began a new round of thinking.
The power of the flame lies in its temperature. The function of the spell rune in the ring should be to increase the temperature, but the oxygen content in the air did not change drastically. So, what is the medium of the flame?
Adam felt that he had grasped the key to the problem. After analyzing the known data, the reason finally pointed to the second special energy. The mastery of this mysterious energy might be the reason why mages could do all kinds of incredible things.
"The sample is too small."
Adam saved the problem and stopped thinking about it. Without enough data to support it, analysis and judgment were just guesses. The only thing that Adam could do now was to continue to optimize the spell rune so that it could strengthen the mental power to the maximum extent.
The progress of this task was not bad. With the support of his powerful calculation ability, Adam was experimenting with new structures every second. Although the forms that he was experimenting with so far were not stable, he believed that after a period of time, he would be able to find a stable form that was compatible with the output of his mental power.
None of the northern apprentices slept. After witnessing magic, their interest in it was already high. They used every available time to train. Fortunately, the training of mental power could replace sleep. Otherwise, it would be hard to say how many of them would be able to maintain their condition the next morning.
During breakfast, the northern apprentices received a completely different attitude from last night. Apart from Tom, most of the other apprentices expressed their goodwill. William Alfred even came forward to chat, mainly with Adam and the other two. Unfortunately, apart from Corestal who was flattered, Adam and Ophelia's reactions were very cold.
"We will be leaving the southern port for the Magus Continent today. If there are no accidents, unless we become official mages, it will be very difficult for us to return home again." William did not care about their attitude. After telling them the news, he politely took his leave. He still had to go to the other two teams to inform them of the news.
"Mr. William is such a gentleman." Corestal had a tendency to be infatuated.
After that, they arrived at the southern port. The ship from the Magus Continent had its own dock. Along the way, everyone looked at them with respect. This made the apprentices who had suddenly changed their status feel even more proud.
Yesterday evening, Adam could not see it clearly from the sky. Now that he was close to it, he realized that these ships did not rely on raw power to sail. The shape of the ship from the Moldova College was close to the level of science fiction. The alloy that made the ship's hull was not any kind of alloy that Adam knew of. Obviously, the development of magical technology based on extraordinary knowledge was not inferior to or even surpassing that of Earth.
Under the guidance of the mages, they boarded the ship called the Moldova College. Mage Black and the others did not pay much attention to the apprentices and went straight into the cabin.
After respectfully sending off the mages, the captain said, "We will arrive at the port where the Magus Continent and the Moldova College are located in three months. During this time, you can move freely on the ship. However, the innermost area of the first floor is the residence of the great mages. I advise you not to disturb them there. Otherwise, you will experience the wrath of the great mages. "
"Also, do not fall into the sea. The magical beasts in the sea will not be polite to you. Also, the Moldova College will not stay for anyone."
"You can find a place to stay. The journey is not very interesting. If you feel bored, there are some entertainment facilities on the ship for free. If you have other needs, you can tell the sailors. However, there is no guarantee that they will satisfy you. "
After the captain finished speaking, a few sailors came forward to take over the task of guiding them. From their eyes, one could see that they were deeply envious of the apprentices. Adam found that the captain was a peak Grand Knight. He was stronger than Earl Johnson, and the sailors were all knights.
As expected, being a knight was not a rare profession. Adam even guessed that the commoners living in the Magus Continent were all knights.
Everyone excitedly walked into the cabin and chose their own rooms. Other than the apprentices in the south who acted very naturally, the rest of the apprentices were a little cautious. They were afraid that they would trigger some kind of mechanism or break something. After all, for most of them, this was the first time they came into contact with magical technology.
With a low whistle, the Moldova College set sail.
