Chapter 43
Chapter 43
Adam descended from the sky after seeing William's position. He was wearing the gray robes given to apprentices by the academy, and he was holding an egg in his hand.
The aura of this egg from the abyss was getting more and more evil. A blood-red mist constantly rose from its surface, changing into all kinds of shapes. It looked very strange. Even if a normal person got close to it, they would feel their mind being affected and become confused.
The engraving of the master-servant contract could not be stopped. Adam could only take it with him wherever he went. The meat was stored in his portable space and he would feed it once a day.
When Riley and Terry saw that Adam was really in front of them, they did not dare to say a word. They retreated timidly. Facing Adam directly gave them a lot of pressure, especially now that Adam's image was so negative.
William knew Adam's personality, so he had no intention of introducing him. He said directly, "Can we go now?"
Adam nodded in agreement. With the current strength of an apprentice, of course, they wouldn't rely on flying magic to travel. Adam followed William to the gate of the academy. This place provided the rental of the universal hovering car. The price wasn't very expensive, but if it was damaged, full compensation would be required.
Riley and Terry were no strangers to hover cars. They consciously sat in the driver's seat and took over the driver's seat. This was also because of the pressure of being with Adam.
Thirty-three thousand kilometers sounded very far, but compared to the boundless size of the Magus Continent, it was only a short distance. The mission location was at the edge of Moldo's Tower of Elements' territory.
Adam did not talk to them on the way. He kept engraving the contract on the egg while looking at the vast land outside the window. For two days, Riley and Terry did not dare to talk to Adam, especially after they saw Adam feeding the egg with meat.
Adam found that the Magus Continent was not a huge city like he had imagined. Along the way, there were very few human settlements. Instead, there were forests, lakes, wetlands, and plains everywhere. From time to time, powerful magical beasts would appear in the wilderness, as well as large groups of them. However, none of them dared to block the path of the hover car. It was probably because the power of the Magus had been integrated into their instincts.
On the third day, Adam suddenly asked, "Why did those Wind Wolves dare to attack the townspeople?"
The three of them were stunned for a moment before they caught up with Adam's train of thought. William pondered for a moment and said, "I don't know. Actually, this mission is divided into two parts. The first is to exterminate the Wind Wolves, and the second is to investigate the cause of the magical beast attack. "
Adam knew that Wind Wolves had the same habits as ordinary wolves. They were also pack creatures. As the name implied, these magical beasts mastered low-level wind magic and knew how to use magic to strengthen themselves, so they were very fast. They were a huge threat to ordinary people at the knight stage, but they were not enough to deal with a single mage apprentice.
Every Wind Wolf pack had a leader, and the number of wolves in the pack depended on the leader's strength. Since the pack outside the town could cause such chaos, the Wolf King must be extremely powerful.
"You three dare to take on this kind of mission?"
William smiled and said, "Of course it's not just the three of us. There are apprentices in the town too, and the strength of the knights is not to be underestimated …" In fact, the mission to exterminate the Wind Wolves was an orange level mission in the mission hall. This level meant that it was not suitable for rookies, but young people would always have a mysterious confidence in their own strength.
Adam did not say anything after hearing this. The hover car continued to travel for five hours, and they arrived at their destination, a small town called Bran. William and the others did not notice, but Adam could feel that they were being watched. Many magical beasts were constantly watching them along the way.
Soon, William and the other two's expressions became serious. They found that a runic barrier had been raised outside the town. There were many broken limbs and blood stains on the ground. It was obvious that a fierce battle had just taken place here.
The hover car slowed down, and William said in a low voice, "Damn it, I think we're in trouble."
Riley said in a panic, "Didn't the report say that only the townspeople of Bran would be in danger of being attacked if they walked out of the town? But now, it's a siege!" The scattered townspeople being attacked and the whole town being attacked were two completely different concepts. They could deal with the former, but they could not do anything about the latter.
However, it was impossible for them to back out now. The three of them could only hope for reinforcements, or Adam's help …
The hover car stopped outside the barrier. Inside the barrier, someone asked loudly, "Who are you?"
William got out of the car and showed the mission contract. The barrier opened, and the few of them entered the town. They immediately saw the wounded knights and two apprentices walking towards them.
"I'm Thomas, and he's Zach. Are you the advance reinforcements?" Thomas saw that only four people came out of the hover car. His eyes darkened, and he asked expectantly.
William said awkwardly, "No, it's just us."
Zach said in a frenzy, "Damn it, damn it! What the hell is the academy doing! We've already given them more information, but they only sent the four of you! And you're all rookies, aren't you? "
William was even more embarrassed. "You know, there are very few senior apprentices in the academy, and it's not just four. He …" William pointed at Adam. "He didn't accept the mission. He's just here to take a look."
"Take a look? Take a look? Ha, have I been away from the academy for too long? Since when was the academy so lenient towards apprentices? " Zach turned to look at Adam, and this one look made him swallow all his dissatisfaction back into his stomach. It was not for anything else, but because that egg was too shocking. An acolyte who had such an item was not someone he could afford to offend.
Adam ignored him and walked to the edge of the barrier alone to observe the man-made energy field.
William said hurriedly, "Sir, I think you should tell us what happened here. Why did the wind wolves attack the town? Also, can't the barrier stop them? "
Thomas sighed heavily and waved at them. He said, "Forget it, Hope Academy will send reinforcements soon. This time, it might be troublesome. The magical beast attack is controlled."
"Controlled!?" The three of them exclaimed. Although the mages did not care much about normal humans, at least they had not massacred them. Now, why would anyone dare to lead magical beasts to attack a territory ruled by the Tower of Elements?
Adam thought of an interesting possibility. In the mage's plane, the only ones who dared to openly go against the Tower of Elements and massacre humans were the anti-mages.
He remembered the records of the anti-mages in the upper level of the library. They were a group of dregs of the era. After Prometheus the Great Necromancer and Annicroft the World Guardian revolutionized the mage's plane, either because of their limited aptitude or because they could not accept the fact that mages were a universal profession, they embarked on the path of resistance.
They maintained the inheritance of ancient factions and kept every single piece of knowledge a secret. They focused on researching curses and soul magic against humans. Some of the enemy mages hid in various towers and obtained resources through dimensional wars. Most of the other mages roamed the Mage Plane like rats, targeting ordinary people, weak mages, and apprentices.
They were the enemy of mages.
Adam suddenly said, "Is it the anti-mages?"
Zach and Thomas looked at Adam in surprise, as if they did not expect a rookie to know about this. They nodded and said, "From the current situation, it should be."
"Anti-Mages? What's that?" Riley asked confusedly.
Adam obviously had no interest in explaining it to them. After hearing Zach's introduction, the three of them turned pale and felt extremely regretful. The anti-mages sounded very scary. How did they get involved in such a scary thing?
Adam felt that it was very interesting. He had only thought of this journey as a relaxation in his confusion. He did not expect to encounter such a thing.
Unlike William and the other two, he was not worried about the anti-mages. Every level had its corresponding resources, and the anti-mages were the same. From the fact that he or they only dared to attack the normal human towns at the edge of the Tower's rule, it could be seen that there were no mages among the anti-mages.
Adam wasn't afraid of the acolytes.
.....
In the dense forest a few hundred kilometers away from the town of Bran, four anti-mage apprentices covered in long black robes sat scattered in an open space.
"Moldo, the support from the Tower of Elements is here." A hoarse voice that did not sound like a human was heard. There was a strange smile in his voice. "Small floating cars. There won't be many of them." As he spoke, he stroked the trembling Wind Wolf King at his feet.
"Is that so? Very good. It's time to let this group of fools who live under the sun know the truth of the world. I wonder if they will like my little cutie after seeing it?" The second person stretched out his hand from the black robe. In the palm of his hand was a ferocious face, with layers of fine fangs in his mouth. They were constantly struggling as if they wanted to grow out of his hand. The second person rubbed his face against it and said softly, "Be good, don't worry. Dinner will be served soon."
It was a woman!
"Selina, take it back. D * mn it, I hate it!" The third person said. "It almost ate me the last time!" He lifted his black robe and revealed the wound on his left arm that had not healed. "Don't let me see it again. Otherwise, I'm afraid I won't be able to resist killing it!"
Selina giggled and stretched out her hand to the third person. The monster's face grew rapidly from her hand and rushed towards him with its disgusting body parts. An ear-piercing shriek resounded in the forest. "Don't you like it? Look, it's so cute! "
The third person angrily stretched out his finger and swiped it in front of him. A dark green light brushed past the monster's body and landed on the ground, corroding a deep mark on the ground. "Selina, I'm warning you …"
