Chapter 87
Chapter 87
Although Dark Cloud was not sentient, it was very sensitive to good intentions and bad intentions. As soon as the Devil's hand touched its mane, Dark Cloud shook its body and bounced its hand away.
The Devil was stunned and pulled a long face. It covered its hand with a layer of energy and tried to grab Dark Cloud again. "How dare a mere beast look down on Lord Gaffedel?"
"Squeak!" Dark Cloud took a step back and used its horn to make a threatening sound at the Devil. Its front hooves stomped the ground restlessly, ready to charge at any time.
The Devil was even more dissatisfied. It opened its hand and continued to walk forward with a sinister smile. With its strength, it did not care about Dark Cloud's threat at all. Even if the Devil stood still, Dark Cloud's attack could not touch it. "Looks like I need to teach you a lesson. I'll let you know that Lord Gaffedel is someone you must —"
Crack! Before the demon could finish its words, it was suddenly struck by a whip and scattered into pieces. Then, Adam's voice rang out behind it. "What must I do?"
The Devil smiled and turned its head. It saw Adam walking towards it with grass, beans, and all kinds of food. Ignoring the pain, Dark Cloud rushed to Adam's side. "Master, you don't have to do this kind of work yourself. Your loyal servant is willing to serve you."
Adam kicked it aside and said, "Get out of my way."
Dark Cloud let out a happy cry when it saw Adam. It stood obediently behind the trough and waited for Adam to feed it.
When Ophelia and the two nobles arrived at the stable, they saw Adam sitting beside the trough without a care for his image. His eyes were listless as he gently stroked Dark Cloud's big head with one hand.
"Hahahaha," the Duke laughed. "I didn't expect Mr. Adam to be so interested. If Mr. Adam likes mixed-blood mounts, you can come to my stable to pick one. You can take whichever you like."
Adam patted Dark Cloud's head and stood up from the ground. He said to them, "What's the matter?"
"There is something I need to ask Mr. Adam's opinion on, but the banquet is about to start. Why don't we go there and talk?"
The dinner in the Duke's mansion was as luxurious as ever. However, Adam had long been accustomed to the high-grade ingredients of the Mage Continent. He only tasted a little at the dinner. The others were not in the mood to eat. When they saw Adam put down his knife and fork, they also stopped eating at the same time.
After a short silence, the Duke spoke first. "Mr. Adam, you know that the royal family of Madeira Island was completely wiped out by the High Church."
Adam nodded.
"Madeira Island needs a new master to better serve Moldo. I don't think there are any nobles on the island more qualified than me and Earl Johnson, so …"
Adam asked, "What about the academy's attitude?"
"Mr. Adam, the academy has appointed you as the person in charge of this mission. This means that you have complete control over the matters on the island."
"I have no objections. You can decide for yourselves." They didn't mention the lord in the east whose name Adam still didn't know, and Adam wasn't interested in asking. Even this time, if it wasn't for the academy's mission, Adam wouldn't have set foot on this land again. Who would rule this land in the future and what would become of it would have nothing to do with Adam.
The Duke smiled happily. Earl Johnson's face was still like granite. Ophelia was relieved. Until now, she no longer owed the Johnson family name anything.
After returning to the room, the Devil said to Adam, "My master, you are too generous. Those two humans just now clearly wanted to give you some benefits."
Adam personally put away the paper on the table that was full of lightning magic runes. He said casually, "Their benefits are meaningless. At most, some energy stones. That kind of thing," he put the paper in his dimensional pocket. "I don't lack them."
The devil blinked his eyes. Thinking of the endless income from the meditation technique, as well as the income from the rune group written by Adam, he nodded in agreement.
.....
Early the next morning, under the escort of the Duke and the Earl, Adam and the other three boarded a merchant ship between the Port of Karachi and Madeira Island. They embarked on the journey back.
The high-class ships that they used to take would not often come to the deserted islands outside of the Mage's Continent. For ships of that level, the income from a round trip could not even cover the consumption of energy stones during the voyage. So the four of them could only take this ordinary ship back.
All the people on the merchant ship were ordinary people, and they were all in awe of the fact that they were able to receive four mage apprentices. The captain personally appeared and arranged for the four of them to stay in the best cabin on the ship. Even the dark cloud was assigned someone to serve them. The devil expressed its jealousy once again, and Adam became impatient with its endless stream of strange words, so he kicked it out of the room. The devil happily found the captain and used Adam's tiger skin to abuse its power.
The three-month long voyage was basically uneventful. After entering the high-magic sea area, there were occasional attacks from magical beasts, but they were all happily dealt with by the Devil. The Devil received better treatment because of this, so it was even more joyful.
By the time they disembarked from the ship, the devil had earned a lot. He was covered in all kinds of goods and was wandering around the dark cloud like a peddler, causing the dark cloud to be very angry.
"Get rid of the garbage on you," Adam said after walking out of the port.
The Devil was dissatisfied and retorted, "How can these be garbage? These are the rewards I got from trading with the humans."
"They are worthless. These materials can't withstand the pressure of teleportation at all."
The Devil was stunned. It looked at the things on its body and was a little embarrassed. It did not even think of asking Adam to help it put the things into the Dimensional Pocket. It could only look at the others with a pleading look.
Corestal chuckled and said, "I can help, but there are too many of them. You really need to deal with some of them."
The Devil was grief-stricken. It threw away the things along the way and finally decided on the things it wanted to take with it when they arrived at the teleportation circle.
At this time, Ophelia suddenly said, "Actually, you can choose to let the ordinary people of Karachi send it to the academy." She then held the Dark Cloud's hand and bowed to the Mage of the Second Elemental Holy Tower before walking into the teleportation circle.
The Dark Cloud showed a human-like mocking expression and snorted at the Devil.
The Devil was stunned. It handed the rest of the things to Corestal with tears in its eyes and then angrily glared at Ophelia and the Dark Cloud. It kept muttering something that returned to Adam's mind.
As the light of the teleportation circle flashed, the few of them stood on the land of the Moldova Tower again after a long time.
Before they could leave, they saw an alchemy puppet directly in front of them. "Apprentice Adam and Mage Black are waiting for you."
