Chapter 56: Demon
Chapter 56: Demon
“Nonsense, you’re the only one here called Little San!” the Chief shouted.
Su Tang gave a bitter smile; he felt as if he had been pulled into some kind of game.
“Are you coming or not?”
“I…”
Just as Su Tang spoke a single word, the old servant suddenly smiled and said, “Third-in-Command, as the saying goes, it is easy to board a pirate ship but hard to leave one. Since you’ve come, just stay here in peace.” After saying this, he secretly gave Su Tang a meaningful look.
“Uncle Zhong, how did this place become a pirate ship?!” the Chief shouted indignantly.
“I was just using a metaphor, haha…” the old servant laughed dryly.
“Little San, say something! We are going to do a mission, are you coming or not?” the Second-in-Command, Zhou Qian, was also getting anxious.
“I’ll go,” Su Tang nodded helplessly. The old servant’s strength was unfathomable; if he refused on the spot, it might bring trouble. It was better to just get through today first. He didn’t believe they could watch him forever; there would be a chance to run eventually. Then, Su Tang stepped into his role: “But… Chief, what exactly is the request? Where are we going? There must be detailed information, right? We should all consider it carefully and not act blindly.”
“What information do we need? You have me.” The Chief patted her chest loudly, and two mounds shook violently…
Su Tang’s gaze fell upon the old servant, as if saying: They don’t understand, but you should, right? Are you just going to watch them mess around?
The old servant noticed Su Tang’s gaze and nodded slightly.
Just then, a voice came from outside: “Chief, Miss Ruan has arrived.”
“Haha, Ruan Ling’er is here. Shh… don’t speak. That brat has been mocking me for so many days, it’s time for me to get some revenge!” After saying this, the Chief hurriedly stood up and walked quickly toward the door. Then, the door was slammed shut.
Not long after, voices were heard from outside: “Sister Xiaoru, it’s been several days already. You have to give us an answer!”
“Haven’t I been busy recruiting people? Sigh… I’m busy to death every single day, how could I be in the mood?” the Chief said.
“Hee hee… you’re bragging again. Could you actually recruit anyone?”
“You brat, how are you talking?” the Chief said, “With my, Xi Xiaoru’s, peerless charm, I only need to wave my hand, and the heroes of this world would fight over each other to join…”
“Give it a rest, Sister Xiaoru, fighting over each other… I walked up from downstairs and didn’t see a single person.”
“I’ve already recruited someone. Our team is officially formed today. The others were useless, so I kicked them all out,” the Chief said shamelessly.
“No way? Is there really someone who isn’t afraid to die?” the girl’s voice sounded astonished.
Inside the room, Su Tang grimaced. He wasn’t fearless; he just didn’t know the truth.
“Hahaha… Well? Nothing to say now, right?!”
“Sister Xiaoru, don’t count your family’s Martial Artists as members. My brother will be furious, and he won’t give you the badges.”
“He dares?!” the Chief was instantly enraged and shouted, “The number of people is enough. If he dares to make things difficult on purpose, believe it or not, I’ll burn your house down!”
“Oh oh… Sister Xiaoru, you look so cute when you’re angry, my heart almost…”
“Get lost!” the Chief then whispered, “There’s an outsider here, stop messing around…”
“An outsider? Did you really recruit someone?”
“Of course,” the Chief shouted triumphantly, “Little San, come out and meet the guest.”
Damn it… Su Tang felt annoyed in his heart, but he couldn’t say anything. He stood up, walked over, and pulled open the door.
“You brat, see for yourself?!” the Chief tilted her head up, looking very arrogant.
Standing beside the Chief was a girl wearing a pale green long dress. She looked Su Tang up and down, her eyes full of sympathy: “A quite handsome young man, what a pity…”
“What do you mean by that?!” the Chief shouted.
“You’re an outsider, right? Haven’t you heard of the three Great Demons of Red Leaf City?” the girl asked.
Su Tang nodded. He now deeply regretted rushing in to apply without investigating first. The old servant was still staring at him like a hawk, so he could only endure it for now.
“You’re the demon!” the Chief shouted.
The girl named Ruan Ling’er giggled and pulled the Chief to the side. She seemed to want to invite the Chief somewhere, but the Chief’s attention was entirely on the mission, and she spoke somewhat absently. After chatting for a while, Ruan Ling’er realized she couldn’t persuade the Chief and took her leave, but before leaving, she gave Su Tang a meaningful glance.
The first mission of the temporary team started shortly after. As the group walked down the main street, Su Tang once again felt something strange.
Walking at the very front, naturally, was the Chief. From behind, the large blade on her back looked very unbalanced compared to her figure. She was slender, but the blade was too wide and thick, making it look like she was carrying a thick tree trunk.
Second-in-Command Zhou Qian and Fourth-in-Command Lu Feixia walked on either side. A ring of silver small hoops hung from Zhou Qian’s waist, which seemed to be a Spirit Tool of unknown function. Lu Feixia was empty-handed. It wasn’t important that she was a few years younger than Su Tang; what mattered was her mental age. She walked with a bounce and a hop, clearly not yet grown up. Was she really the Fourth-in-Command?
Behind them was the expressionless Su Tang, and behind Su Tang was the old servant.
In the Zuiyue Tower, Ruan Ling’er had mentioned something about the three Great Demons of Red Leaf City. It sounded like nothing at the time, but only by experiencing it personally could one understand the true meaning of “Demon.”
Carriages and riders galloping ahead stopped immediately by the roadside upon seeing the Chief from afar. Carriages coming from behind slowed down, and some simply turned into other streets. No one dared to overtake her. That large blade was an unmistakable trademark; it could be seen clearly even from hundreds of meters away.
The pedestrians on the street were also avoiding them. Some hid in the shops on both sides, some turned around to walk back, some ducked into alleys, and some, in a panic, climbed straight over walls. The most interesting was a Young Master with seven or eight followers. He was trying to flirt with a girl carrying a flower basket. Suddenly discovering the Chief, he was so frightened that he fell straight onto his backside. He then scrambled up and fled. The followers also scattered in chaos. The girl was confused at first, but when she saw the Chief, her face paled with fear. However, she did not run; she just stood there, lowering her head timidly.
Looking at the street that had become silent in an instant, Su Tang couldn’t help but feel moved.
This was a level of power, and also a kind of loneliness—to have no equal in the world…
