Chapter One: Just Classmates
The alarm rang at 6:30 AM sharp in the Glenwood Senior Secondary School hostel building. A loud groan followed from several rooms at once. It was just another regular weekday - another sleepy morning in the life of students juggling studies, rules, and friendship.
In Room 212, Reet Rathod pulled the blanket over her head as her best friend preet knocked her with a pillow.
Preet:
"Wake up, sleeping beauty! You're gonna miss breakfast again."
Reet: (half-asleep)
"Let me sleep. I'll eat from your plate."
Preet: (grinning)
"No way. I don't share samosas."
The two burst into laughter, shaking off the sleepiness. Within minutes, Reet had tied her hair in a messy ponytail and rushed down to the mess, already gossiping with Anya about yesterday's English test and their biology teacher's weird obsession with frogs.
---
🏫 In the lecture hall
Lecture hall was as noisy as ever. The classroom was filled with chatter, laughter, and bags thumping onto benches. Students wandered in and out before the teacher arrived, trying to finish homework or just catch up on gossip.
At the far corner, next to the window, Abeer Malhotra sat quietly, as he usually did. He was the kind of student who didn't talk much unless needed, but was always aware of everything happening around him.
His friend arjun slid into the seat beside him, panting.
Arjun :
"Didn't think I'd make it. Dude, I swear I saw the warden jogging."
Abbeer: (half-smirking)
"Then it's a miracle day already."
A few rows ahead, Reet and Anya were laughing over a silly drawing Reet had made in her math notebook - a cartoon version of Mr. Chauhan, their class teacher, with bunny ears.
Reet:
"I swear if he sees this, I'll be banned from college."
Preet:
"No, you'll be promoted to head of the drama club."
---
🕐 Lunch Break - The Playground
After two long, boring lectures, it was finally break time. The class scattered like birds - some headed to the canteen, others to the lawn, and a few stayed inside to finish assignments.
Reet sat on the stone bench under the tree with Anya, nibbling on a sandwich.
A cricket ball rolled near her feet. She picked it up and tossed it toward the field, where Abbeer stood with Ravi and a few boys playing.
He caught the ball mid-air and gave a small nod in thanks.
Reet: (to Anya, casually)
"He's always so quiet."
Preet:
"Yeah. Like he's hiding some mysterious past."
Reet:
"Or maybe just hiding from homework."
They laughed. No spark, no butterflies. Just teenage observations in a sunny afternoon.
---
🌆 Evening - Hostel Common Room
Later that evening, the common room was buzzing with noise - some students playing carrom, others watching random TV shows. Reet sat cross-legged on the couch with a book she wasn't really reading. She looked up and saw Abbeer at the corner table, writing something in a notebook.
Reet: (whispers to Anya)
"I think he's always writing something."
Preet:
"Maybe he's journaling his future villain arc."
Reet: (giggles)
"Nah, he doesn't look evil. Just tired."
Just then, their warden entered.
Warden:
"Lights out by 10 PM. No noise after that, girls. Boys too - I can hear you from this floor!"
A few "Yes, ma'am" echoed. The day was winding down.
---
🌙 Night - Room 212
Back in their room, Reet lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling.
Reet:
"You know, today felt... normal."
Preet: (from her bed)
"Hmm?"
Reet:
"Like one of those days you forget later, but still want to live again."
Preet :
"Then let's not forget it. Let's dream it again tonight."
They smiled in the dark.
