Chapter 24: The Dream Is Ready, So Are We... Almost

......

It had been months of construction, designing, planning, and countless late nights. And finally... it was ready.

“Abeer-Reet Multispecialty Hospital”

A dream they built brick by brick. Together.

Abeer had kept the final look a surprise for Reet. He blindfolded her as they pulled up to the front gate.

"Are we… here?" she asked, smiling nervously.

Abeer grinned. “We are.”

He slowly removed the blindfold — and there it was.

A grand white building with soft blue glass windows, their names carved in gold at the top. A blooming garden at the entrance, automatic glass doors, a neat reception, and private patient rooms on the upper floors.

Tears welled in Reet’s eyes. “This… is ours?”

Abeer nodded. “Our baby before the baby.”

He took her on a slow, proud tour. From the emergency room to the pediatric wing, the doctor cabins, the diagnostics lab, and even the staff lounge — everything was just like they’d dreamt.

After the little tour, they were on their way back home in the car.

Reet was resting with her hand on her baby bump when suddenly her back straightened.

Abeer noticed her shift. “What happened?”

She winced slightly. “It’s nothing, just… a little tightness in the stomach.”

Abeer pulled over instantly, his eyes wide. “Are you getting contractions?”

“No, I mean… maybe… but I don’t think it’s those contractions. It feels different.”

He panicked. “I’m calling the doctor.”

She held his hand. “No! Just wait… maybe it's Braxton Hicks. You know, false labor. Normal in the third trimester.”

Abeer looked like he was ready to carry her to the hospital in his arms.

She laughed, despite the discomfort. “Dr. Abeer, calm down. You own a hospital now, not live in one.”

But he didn’t smile. He just reached over and gently held her bump.

“Just don’t scare me like that again, okay? Not until it’s time.”

They reached home safely, and Reet rested with a warm compress, sipping haldi milk.

That night, Abeer didn’t sleep much. He kept checking on her every hour.

And Reet? She looked at him, smiled, and whispered to her baby:

“You’ve got a protector. You’re lucky already.”
