Chapter 25: The Doctor Who Forgot He's a Doctor

...
It started like every other day.
Reet was walking around their cozy new home, grumbling about how tight her shoes were. Abeer, the "calm and composed Dr. Malhotra," was sipping coffee and checking emails from the clinic.
And then…

“Abeer… Abeer…” she said, voice trembling.
He looked up casually, “Hmm?”
“I think… it’s time.”
The coffee spilled.

“Time? Time for what? Appointment? Dinner? Oh god, THE BABY?!”
Reet nodded, slightly panicking herself.
Abeer stood up — perfectly calm.
“I’m a doctor. I’ve delivered three babies this month. I got this.”

Then, within 0.3 seconds, he lost it.
Cue Full-On Husband Mode:
He put his scrubs on as if he’s about to perform the surgery himself.
He grabbed his stethoscope… and used it to check her forehead.

He called the driver, then forgot he’d parked the car himself outside.
He held Reet’s arm and said dramatically, “Madam, let’s breathe together!”
Reet stared. “ABEER. You literally do this for a living.”

Abeer replied, “I do! But those women aren’t my wife! Those babies aren’t my baby!”
They reached the hospital — their hospital.
The nurses rushed in. “Dr. Malhotra! Should we prepare OR-2?”

Abeer shouted, “Yes! Get everything ready! And get her jaljeera, she needs jaljeera—wait, NO jaljeera!”

Reet was wheeled into the labor room, grumbling, “He's more nervous than me, and I’m the one pushing a baby out.”
Inside the Labor Room:
Abeer was trying so hard to stay professional.

“Okay, contraction’s coming. Inhale… exhale. You’re doing so good.”

Reet glared: “Don’t ‘inhale-exhale’ me. You made this baby. You deal with this.”
He whispered, “I’ll never complain about back pain again.”

Reet screamed, “YOU NEVER SHOULD HAVE!”
Three hours later…
There was crying.
Lots of crying.
From Abeer.

The doctor held the baby up: “Congratulations, it’s a girl!”
Abeer stood there, speechless, then literally bowed down in respect.

He whispered, “She’s so tiny. And wrinkly. Like a roti that didn’t puff but still cute.”
Reet laughed through her exhaustion. “Meet your new boss.”

Abeer kissed her forehead. “You were amazing. I love you. And I love her. But never again. Next time—dog.”
Reet threw a hospital spoon at him.
