AFTERWORD
Hello, everyone. This is Kei Uekawa.
I sincerely thank you for picking up my novel.
First, I’d like to talk a little about the book itself.
This whole book is based on the concept of magic bullets, but originally, the term was used to describe penicillin, the first antibiotic discovered by mankind. Due to its effectiveness and its ability to target diseases without harming the patient, it was described as a “magic bullet.”
The idea was also featured in Carl Maria von Weber’s opera Der Freischütz, in which six out of seven bullets hit with perfect accuracy, while the seventh was bound to the devil’s intentions.
The Devil’s Bullet featured in this story draws inspiration from both of those sources.
Now let’s move on to some acknowledgments.
I’ve made it this far only thanks to the many people who decided to take a chance on my work. This novel came in first at the 31st Fantasia Awards, but it didn’t get there through my efforts alone. TEDDY was responsible for the illustrations, Naohiro Washio was in charge of the Exelia’s designs, and many people at the editorial department helped me polish up my work enough to appeal to the judges. I’ve received a great deal of help from all of them.
Thank you all so, so much. And most importantly, thank you, dear readers, for choosing to pick up this book.
What will become of our protagonist and the Devil’s Bullet? I can only hope you keep reading to find out.
Well then, let’s meet again in the next book.
