Death of Ghost Patrol
Death of Ghost Patrol
The Iron-winged Eagle's talons, capable of rending iron and steel, swept across Ying Ni's body.
A brilliant arc of crimson blood blossomed in mid-air!
A massive chunk of flesh was torn from Ying Ni's waist. It was only because she had activated a Vajra Talisman at the critical moment that she avoided being severed in two by the beast's razor-sharp talons.
Ying Ni crashed heavily to the ground, her gaze fixed with bitter resentment upon Wu Sui, who was suspended in mid-air. By now, both Jade Marrow Mushrooms had already been pocketed into his robes.
After a brief flash of hesitation, Ying Ni spun around and fled.
She was already injured, her alliance with Wu Sui was shattered, and both the Iron-winged Eagle and the Pseudo-Tier 2 Bronze Corpse were closing in. Remaining here was pointless; it would only cost her her life.
Ying Ni chose a path opposite to Ghost Patrol, vanishing swiftly into the dense forest.
Meanwhile, Ghost Patrol recalled his malevolent ghosts into his ghost banner and turned to flee.
As he retreated, he glanced back at Wu Sui, who was trapped between the Bronze Corpse and the Iron-winged Eagle. A cold sneer curled at the corner of his lips.
Fight on! Kill each other for all he cared. Let them fight to the bitter end, only to realize the Jade Marrow Mushrooms had long since withered, their spirituality utterly ruined.
At the thought of the victor flying into a hysterical rage upon discovering the useless stalks, the resentment in Ghost Patrol's heart over losing his hard-won treasures eased considerably.
Yet as he sped through the forest, a sudden chill gripped his soul. A terrifying sensation of impending death enveloped him.
Before he could react, a beam of cold light flashed through the shadows, piercing straight through the back of his skull and exiting from his forehead.
Ghost Patrol's eyes widened in sheer disbelief as he collapsed to the earth, dead with his eyes unclosed.
Song Wen stepped out from the dense foliage, a faint smile playing on his lips, looking thoroughly satisfied with his ambush.
Indeed, lying in wait to strike from the shadows was always the most effective strategy.
Song Wen quickly stripped the ghost-raising bag and Storage Bag from Ghost Patrol's body. He thrust his hand into the dead man's chest, rapidly consuming his essence blood and extracting his soul. With a flick of his wrist, a burst of flame ignited, setting the shriveled corpse ablaze.
The entire process was seamless and fluid. Within a mere dozen breaths, Ghost Patrol's remains were reduced to ashes.
Invoking his movement technique, Song Wen turned and slipped away.
As he fled, he swept his Divine Sense into Ghost Patrol's Storage Bag. Inside, he discovered a jade box holding three yellowish-green spiritual fruits, each about the size of a walnut.
They were precisely Heavenly Spirit Fruits!
Song Wen smirked inwardly. It was just as he had suspected.
After witnessing Ghost Patrol's exceptional speed earlier, Song Wen had reasoned that the man would surely exploit his agility to hoard rare spiritual herbs.
His deduction had proven entirely correct. Ghost Patrol's Storage Bag did indeed contain Heavenly Spirit Fruits, and three of them at that.
Meanwhile, back at the chasm.
Immediately after Wu Sui repelled Ying Ni with a palm strike and claimed the Jade Marrow Mushrooms, the Bronze Corpse closed the distance to less than a zhang.
A single zhang was well within the monster's lethal striking range.
Wu Sui could practically feel the spine-chilling, oppressive corpse Qi rolling off the creature.
At this absolute crisis point, Wu Sui slapped the corpse-raising bag at his waist-one he had never deployed before.
A towering corpse puppet, standing over seven chi tall and radiating a monstrous, bloodthirsty aura, materialized before him.
This was shockingly a corpse puppet refined from the remains of a Foundation Establishment expert-and quite likely a body-refining cultivator at that.
Although the aura emanating from this puppet was only at the peak of the Qi Refining realm, the sheer, terrifying pressure it exuded far surpassed any ordinary peak Qi Refining cultivator.
Just like the wild Bronze Corpse, this was a pseudo-second-tier corpse puppet. It possessed an incredibly resilient physical form, though it lacked the true corpse Qi and fiendish malice of a genuine Tier 2 undead.
"Roar!"
The moment the corpse puppet appeared, it bared its long, jagged fangs and unleashed a sky-rending roar.
Boom!
The corpse puppet collided violently with the Bronze Corpse.
It sounded like two primordial Demon Beasts slamming into one another, emitting a dull, thunderous crash.
The two physically monstrous creatures locked together in a brutal grapple, tumbling out of the air and crashing into the ground below.
No sooner had Wu Sui neutralized the threat of the Bronze Corpse than the Iron-winged Eagle's razor-sharp talons descended upon him.
Wu Sui hurriedly drove his spiritual power into his chains. The iron links rattled violently in the air, rapidly coiling into a dense, eggshell-like barrier to cocoon him.
He intended to use his Dharma Artifact to withstand the beast's dive directly.
Right at that moment, a burly figure leaped into mid-air.
Chou Li had arrived.
Her essence blood surged wildly, and the phantom of a ten-meter-tall wild boar materialized behind her-a phenomenon unique to those who had reached a profound level in body-refining techniques.
Like a ravenous, colossal boar descending from the mountains to hunt, Chou Li charged forward with unstoppable momentum.
Beneath her skin, thick muscles bulged as immense physical power concentrated in her hand.
Clenching her left hand into a fist, she launched a furious punch.
Boom!
The heavy blow smashed squarely against the Iron-winged Eagle's talons.
A cataclysmic force erupted between fist and claw.
The massive recoil threw Chou Li backward, sending her falling from mid-air.
The flesh on her fingers split apart, spraying crimson blood across the sky.
Yet the Iron-winged Eagle fared no better; blasted by a strike powerful enough to uproot mountains, its diving momentum came to a dead halt. Its vise-like talons trembled uncontrollably, evidently having sustained significant damage.
Chou Li crashed heavily into the earth, carving out a two-meter-wide crater as mud and debris rained down.
Yet she rose immediately as if completely unfazed, scrambling out of the pit and taking a few massive strides to stand directly before the newly landed Wu Sui.
"Hand over one of the Jade Marrow Mushrooms!" Chou Li demanded, her sharp gaze brooking no refusal.
She had seen everything clearly just now-Wu Sui had taken both Jade Marrow Mushrooms for himself.
To Wu Sui, forcing him to surrender treasures already in his possession was agonizing, even if he had previously promised to split the spoils evenly.
Wu Sui said, "Junior Sister Chou, a powerful enemy stands before us. Shouldn't we first repel these foes before deciding on the distribution of the treasures?"
Chou Li remained entirely unmoved, letting out a cold sneer. "Do you think I didn't see you betray Ying Ni just now? I am not a brainless fool like her, all brawn and no brains."
"Give me a Jade Marrow Mushroom this instant, and I will hold off the Iron-winged Eagle while you deal with the Bronze Corpse. If you refuse..."
Chou Li's aura swelled even grander, her essence blood boiling furiously around her. The threat could not be more explicit.
A flash of hidden killing intent flickered deep within Wu Sui's eyes, but the circumstances gave him no choice. Left with no alternative, he could only yield.
He had already provoked two formidable entities in the Bronze Corpse and the Iron-winged Eagle. If he forced a confrontation with Chou Li now, his chances of survival would be virtually zero.
"Fine!"
Gritting his teeth, Wu Sui reached into his robes and pulled out a Jade Marrow Mushroom to hand over.
However, the very next instant, Wu Sui froze, staring in horror at the stalk in his hand.
The Jade Marrow Mushroom, which should have been completely crimson and translucent like blood-jade, was now riddled with spreading black veins. The potent medicinal essence of the herb had been thoroughly tainted by the dense yin energy Ghost Patrol had injected into it; its spiritual properties were almost entirely destroyed.
"How can this be?!"
Wu Sui's face turned thoroughly ash-pale, completely stricken with disbelief.
He quickly pulled out the second Jade Marrow Mushroom, only to find it in the exact same ruined state.
Piecing the sequence of events together in a flash, Wu Sui's expression twisted into pure ferocity.
"Ghost Patrol... I will tear your corpse into ten thousand pieces!" Wu Sui snarled through clenched teeth.
To have gone through such immense peril only to end up with useless weeds filled the previously smug Wu Sui with overriding hatred.
Looking at the two ruined, drained Jade Marrow Mushrooms in Wu Sui's hands, Chou Li experienced a brief wave of shock and disappointment before turning on her heel and leaving without another word.
