Volume 1, Chapter 11 – “Chance Encounter”
Song Shiyuan didn’t sleep the entire night.
After that terrible nightmare, she simply didn’t have the courage to continue sleeping, so she sat in meditation on her bed until dawn.
Unfortunately, although she was permitted to use a portion of her cultivation, she still couldn’t cultivate. Meditating to regulate her breath only had the effect of restoring her physical strength.
However, this wasn’t the time for cultivation anyway.
As soon as day broke, Song Shiyuan felt her way out the door.
She wouldn’t forget the purpose of her journey here. Waiting passively for her fate wasn’t her style either.
Since those fox demons said they wouldn’t restrict her movements, naturally she had to go out and take a look.
Leaving her room, Song Shiyuan went directly to the courtyard’s main gate.
Before her, the wooden gate was covered with a faint magical barrier of light.
‘This is the defensive restriction spell of the fox demon clan.’
‘It can at least withstand attacks from Deity Transformation stage cultivators.’
‘Such a powerful defensive spell… Was it personally formed by the Fox Monarch?’
Should she say it was worthy of being a Demon Monarch’s lair? The restriction spells in the Demon Palace were even more stringent than those at Lingxiao Sword Sect’s main headquarters.
At the very least, within the sect, there wouldn’t be so many restriction spells limiting movement to defend against enemies.
‘Can I leave from here?’
Song Shiyuan pondered. She hesitated for a moment, then boldly raised her hand and pressed it toward the light barrier before her.
The barrier rippled like water, stirring up faint waves.
Song Shiyuan felt the metal ring around her neck warm slightly.
Then she smoothly passed through that barrier.
“Those fox demons actually didn’t lie to me.” Song Shiyuan was somewhat surprised.

She had originally thought it would be impossible to leave this small courtyard. She had already prepared herself to treat this small courtyard as her new prison.
When she stood outside the courtyard, looking at this spacious corridor, her gaze became much more resolute.
The Fox Monarch’s Demon Palace was very large, with no end in sight.
Song Shiyuan felt that this place was no smaller than Lingxiao Sword Sect’s main headquarters.
Along the way, she saw many, many courtyards, but these courtyards were all uniformly sealed by restriction spells.
The metal ring around Song Shiyuan’s neck was both an identification token and a key at the same time, except this key’s access level seemed rather low.
What she could open was merely the room where she lived.
After circling most of the surrounding area, Song Shiyuan confirmed one thing.
Although those fox demons hadn’t lied to her, they couldn’t possibly truly let her roam freely.
She could indeed leave her courtyard and move about, but the distance she could travel was extremely limited.
If she strayed too far from her courtyard, the metal ring around her neck would begin to constrict.
Seeing this situation, Song Shiyuan didn’t dare continue walking.
“I should go back first.”
Song Shiyuan looked into the distance with a helpless, bitter smile.
This place was at least two-thirds of the distance away from the dungeon where her martial brothers and sisters were imprisoned.
Those fox demons wouldn’t even give her the chance to visit her martial brothers and sisters.
Although she had anticipated this, Song Shiyuan still felt a sense of powerlessness rise in her heart.
I wonder where Shixuan is right now.
He should be alright, shouldn’t he?

Thinking of her brother Song Shixuan, Song Shiyuan’s mind inexplicably associated him with last night’s dream.
Just as she had entered the dream last night, she had seen in her dream that Song Shixuan was together with that small fox demon of unknown origin.
Not only that, but her brother Song Shixuan’s behavior toward that small fox demon had been quite intimate.
At the thought of this, Song Shiyuan felt a sour, swelling ache in her heart.
No. That was just a dream.
Song Shiyuan, you need to trust your brother!
Even if Shixuan did do something, it must have been to temporarily submit himself to those fox demons for your sake and the sake of your martial brothers and sisters!
It’s fine, Song Shiyuan.
Song Shiyuan bit her silver teeth lightly. She thought again of that small fox demon who had left her so flustered and embarrassed.
That small fox demon was suspicious in behavior and unknown in origin, and now she didn’t know where she was.
Just as she was thinking this, Song Shiyuan suddenly heard voices coming from ahead.
There are other people nearby?
Song Shiyuan touched the metal ring around her neck.
After confirming that the ring around her neck wouldn’t be triggered, she slowly edged closer.
“These, and these too, must be washed clean today.”
“No slacking off.”
“If Her Majesty punishes you, you should know the consequences.”
“Yes, elder sisters. Axi understands.”
Song Shiyuan seemed to hear a familiar voice.

She saw several chattering fox demons gathered ahead, and in the middle of this group of fox demons, she could vaguely see a silver-haired figure from behind.
Out of caution, Song Shiyuan didn’t show herself directly.
Only after that group of fox demons left did she walk forward with furrowed brows.
“You… what are you doing?” Song Shiyuan said.
The silver-haired small fox demon raised her head.
When she saw Song Shiyuan, her previously dim eyes immediately flooded with light.
“Sword cultivator sister, it’s you!”
The small fox demon stood up joyfully. She wanted to approach affectionately.
But the steps she had just taken stopped again.
She hung her head, somewhat not daring to look at Song Shiyuan. She wanted to get closer, yet didn’t dare to get closer.
Her fingers tied themselves into knots restlessly in front of her.
“Sword cultivator sister… about yesterday, I’m sorry.”
Song Shiyuan looked at the small fox demon with an indescribable gaze. She hadn’t said anything yet, but unexpectedly this small fox demon had apologized to her first.
The small fox demon continued, “About yesterday, Axi already asked the other sisters…”
She seemed very embarrassed.
“Axi didn’t know… Axi didn’t know she would be like that.”
“Axi only just took human form not long ago. That was the first time encountering that kind of situation…”
As she spoke, her head lowered further and further.
She looked rather pitiful.

She seemed to be sincerely seeking her forgiveness.
Looking at it this way, it matched Song Shiyuan’s initial guess. A small fox demon who had just taken human form truly didn’t understand anything.
“I’m sorry, sword cultivator sister. Axi will be careful. It won’t happen again next time.”
“Sword cultivator sister, can you forgive Axi?”
The small fox demon spoke pitifully, raising her head. A pair of watery big eyes stared fixedly at Song Shiyuan.
Being watched by such a small face with a gaze like an abandoned puppy really made it hard for one’s heart not to soften.
“I’m not angry at you.” Song Shiyuan looked at her.
It was difficult to imagine that this well-behaved, adorable small fox demon before her was the same person as the passionate, enthusiastically inviting fox demon in her dream.
Indeed, that was merely a dream.
Song Shiyuan thought this.
“Then… sister has forgiven Axi?” The small fox demon raised her head, her gaze shining as she looked at Song Shiyuan.
Song Shiyuan felt somewhat uncomfortable.
Even though she kept telling herself in her heart that dreams were just dreams and had no connection whatsoever to reality.
However, when she faced that unforgettable pretty face again, Song Shiyuan would still subconsciously recall the scenes from last night’s dream.
It was as if the small fox demon before her had truly been completely open with her.
Song Shiyuan, what’s wrong with you?
How can you associate that unseemly dream with this innocent small fox demon before you?
“Actually… about yesterday, I was also in the wrong.” Song Shiyuan said, “You were kind to me, yet I lost my composure with you like that.”
