Volume 3, Chapter 409 – My Name Is Chi Muxue
“ Hiss! “
Chi Xian let out a pained cry, three bloody scratch marks now marring his face.
He reached up and lightly touched his wound. A burning sting spread across the side of his cheek.
“Chi Xiyan!” he cursed furiously. “How dare you hurt me!”
“You disaster who brought death to your own parents!”
Chi Xiyan kept her face cold, preparing to turn and get up.
Chi Xian had no intention of letting her go. He kicked straight at her leg. “A disaster is a disaster!”
“You worthless bug, why didn’t you just die in that fire with your unlucky parents!”
The kick landed on Chi Xiyan’s leg, and the sharp pain drained the strength from her body at once, sending her crashing to the ground.
Chi Xian snarled, “Chi Xiyan, where’s that pride of yours now? Why are you lying there like a dog?”
Another wave of sharp pain followed.
The sole of Chi Xian’s boot ground into the back of Chi Xiyan’s knee.
Chi Xiyan clenched her teeth. It felt as though the flesh of her leg was being crushed.
A scent of blood drifted through the air.
No cultivation. No strength to fight back.
Look at this. This is what you were as a child.
Alone in the world, at the mercy of others’ cruelty.
Young and ignorant, you longed, in your confusion, for someone’s care and protection.
But reality had already told you long ago that inside this cold cage called a noble household, no such thing had ever existed.
Even if it once had, it had already been burned to ash along with that fire seventeen years ago.
Chi Xiyan lay on the ground, curling her body to protect herself.
Somewhere, unseen, a voice kept questioning her.

So, Chi Xiyan, what is it that you truly fear the most?
Chi Xiyan clutched her head. She didn’t know what this voice was, nor did she understand what meaning this question held.
Even less did she know how to answer it.
Or perhaps, did she really need to arrive at an answer at all?
Chi Xiyan wondered to herself.
Just then, a voice reached her ears.
“Stop!”
It was a woman’s voice, soft and sweet, yet carrying a trace of stern authority.
Hearing the voice, Chi Xian froze, his tone turning fearful.
“Eld… eldest miss! Why are you here?”
Eldest miss?
That familiar title left Chi Xiyan somewhat puzzled.
She pushed herself up with her lightly injured arm and lifted her head to look.
At the end of her line of sight stood a young girl in a goose yellow dress.
Though young, still carrying a hint of childishness, she was already unmistakably a beauty in the making.
But what struck Chi Xiyan as strange was that this face felt somehow familiar to her.
Yet she could not recall ever having seen it before.
An utterly contradictory feeling.
Familiar, and yet a stranger.
The girl in the goose yellow dress looked at Chi Xiyan lying on the ground, and when she saw the wounds on her body, anger surged across her face.
“Chi Xian, do you people even know what you’re doing?!”

“You really do have quite the nerve.” The girl strode over, seething. “Bullying your own kin, using such vicious methods. Granduncle Mu just set the seventh house rule last month. Do you even remember what it says?”
Hearing this, Chi Zhong dropped to his knees in fright at once.
“Eldest miss! I know I was wrong! Please spare me! Don’t tell Granduncle Mu about this!”
The girl in yellow shot him a venomous glare, then turned her head toward the other Chi family boys standing not far off.
“And you lot! Get over here, now!”
The boys shivered at once and shuffled over, cowering.
One of them shrank his neck and murmured, “Eldest miss. We didn’t do anything. It was all Chi Xian.”
The girl in yellow said, “Do you think I’m blind, or stupid?”
“You think I can’t see what you’ve all done?”
Hearing this, the boys immediately dropped to their knees as well, trembling.
“Eldest miss! We were wrong! Please forgive us!”
The girl in yellow spoke again. “It’s not me you need to apologize to. It’s Chi Xiyan, the one you bullied!”
Hearing this, the boys spun around at once and began bowing their heads toward Chi Xiyan like pestles pounding rice.
“Xiyan, we were wrong! Please forgive us! We’ll never do it again!”
Chi Xiyan watched the scene unfold before her.
The very people who had bullied her were now kneeling at the feet of someone with higher status.
She could not quite name the feeling in her chest. There was no thrill of long awaited revenge, no satisfaction of the tables having turned.
The sight of these people kneeling and begging for mercy stirred nothing in her heart at all.
“I don’t want to see any of you again,” she said.
The boys didn’t answer right away, instead glancing toward the girl in yellow.
“Get lost, now,” the girl in yellow said. “Go report to the study hall for punishment yourselves. If anyone thinks they can slack off or cut corners, then I’ll simply have to bring Granduncle Mu here to deal with you personally.”

“Yes, yes, yes! We’re leaving right now!”
The girl in yellow paid the boys no further attention. Instead, she walked over to Chi Xiyan’s side and asked with concern, “Are you all right, Xiyan?”
She crouched down slowly, lowering her head to look at the wound on Chi Xiyan’s leg.
“How could you be hurt this badly! How could they do this to you!”
Chi Xiyan looked at the girl before her, the one now speaking up on her behalf.
She could tell that the girl’s concern came from the heart.
Her profile was also quite lovely.
Chi Xiyan lowered her eyes slightly and said, “I’m fine. Thank you for your concern, eldest miss.”
“How could you possibly be fine!” the girl in yellow said quickly. “You have no spiritual power to protect yourself. If the wound on your leg isn’t treated properly, it could affect your foundation later on.”
“I really am fine,” Chi Xiyan said. “I’ve studied a little medicine myself. Ah.”
Before Chi Xiyan could even finish speaking, the girl in yellow before her reached out without hesitation and scooped her up into her arms.
The girl wrapped one arm behind Chi Xiyan’s knees and the other around her shoulders.
Chi Xiyan was forced to lean against her, close enough to hear the steady thud of her heartbeat.
The girl’s sudden closeness left Chi Xiyan at a loss for how to react.
“Hm? What did you just say you studied?”
“Noth… nothing.”
“Then let me help clean your wound.”
With that, the girl in yellow carried Chi Xiyan into an empty room nearby.
She laid Chi Xiyan down onto a soft couch, setting her down gently.
Then, she reached out and began undoing Chi Xiyan’s skirt.
“Wait. Don’t.” Chi Xiyan instinctively tried to pull her leg back, but the girl in yellow pressed it firmly in place.

“Don’t move,” she said. “The wound on your leg is too serious. I can’t apply the medicine without untying your skirt.”
Chi Xiyan opened her mouth, but in the end gave up resisting.
The blood stained skirt was undone with ease.
Chi Xiyan heard the sound of fabric tearing.
She turned toward the sound and found that the girl in yellow had torn open the hem of her own undergarment.
“This might hurt a little. Bear with it,” the girl warned.
As soon as she finished speaking, Chi Xiyan felt a gentle, tingling sensation spreading up from her leg.
A familiar scent of medicine drifted through the room.
Chi Xiyan’s fine brows knitted together. She recognized this medicine. It was one of Medical Immortal Valley’s finest wound remedies.
This girl was using a cloth soaked in medicinal liquid to treat her wounds.
Chi Xiyan’s ankle, which had instinctively tried to draw back, was held firmly in place by a warm palm.
The girl’s expression was focused and earnest.
Even having studied medicine herself, this was the first time Chi Xiyan had ever been cared for like this.
It left her feeling deeply unaccustomed to it.
“Why… why are you helping me?”
“Hm?” The girl in yellow answered without a second thought. “As your older sister, isn’t it only natural to take care of my little sister?”
“Sis… sister?” Chi Xiyan repeated the unfamiliar word with a puzzled look on her face.
“What’s wrong?” The girl in yellow lifted her head and lightly flicked a finger against Chi Xiyan’s cheek.
“You heartless little thing, forgetting your sister this quickly.”
“Your mother was my own aunt.”
“My name is Chi Muxue.”
