Volume 3, Chapter 412 – Bullying with Filthy Water
There was someone outside, and they had come for her!
Alarm bells exploded in Chi Xiyan’s mind.
Here, she was no longer the eldest legitimate daughter of the Chi family. She had no status, no backing, and at nine years old, not even a trace of cultivation to her name.
Just as before, if someone came looking for trouble with her now, she would have no ability to resist at all.
Chi Xiyan hurriedly backed away several steps.
But the wooden door beside her was already shoved open.
A basin of ice cold filthy water was poured straight down over Chi Xiyan’s head.
Her expression froze on her face, and she staggered back several steps.
The thin garment on her body was already completely soaked through with the filthy water.
The girls in front of her burst into laughter.
“You little witch, weren’t you so arrogant before?”
“Because of you, Brother Xian is still kneeling in the ancestral hall right now!”
“Who do you think you are! A jinxed little orphan with no father and no mother! If Brother Xian suffers, you won’t get off easy either!”
“You people! This is too much!” Chi Xiyan trembled all over.
She had a cleanliness obsession, though she usually hid it exceptionally well. Only a handful of people in this world knew this secret. Not even Chi Jingwen knew.
Chi Xiyan never imagined she would run into something like this inside the Illusory Heart Realm.
“Heh.” The girl in the lead looked Chi Xiyan up and down. “Her clothes are still much too clean. Let’s add a little more to her.”
“Come on! Hold her down!”
Sensing that something was wrong, Chi Xiyan tried to slip away while she had the chance.
But these girls had already blocked off every path of retreat.

Two girls stepped forward and pinned her arms down, one on each side.
“What are you people trying to do!”
Chi Xiyan struggled with all her strength, but the hands of the two girls beside her clamped down on her like iron pincers.
The girl in the lead wore a malicious smile as she dragged in another bucket from outside.
The bucket was filled to the brim with murky filthy water.
She carried it toward Chi Xiyan, walking slowly.
The two girls yanked at Chi Xiyan’s hair, forcing her head up.
Chi Xiyan watched the bucket of filthy water inch closer, terror spreading across her eyes.
“No! Don’t! Stay away!”
The girl holding the bucket sneered. “Now you think to beg for mercy? A little too late for that, Chi Xiyan.”
She lifted the bucket up to Chi Xiyan’s face, stopping just ten centimeters from her cheek.
“Do you know what this is?”
At such close range, Chi Xiyan could already smell the stench coming from the filthy water.
“This is the wash water the servants use for laundry.”
“You should know, those servants without cultivation like you can’t use cleansing techniques.”
“They can only use this water, scrubbing their clothes little by little with it.”
“Heh heh… let me give you a bath with this water!”
“Filthy water paired with someone as rank as you, what a perfect match!”
“No! Don’t!” Chi Xiyan’s face was written all over with refusal, and she shook her head desperately.

The girls broke into another round of laughter.
The girl in the lead didn’t care in the slightest whether Chi Xiyan was willing or not. She lifted the bucket and poured it straight down over Chi Xiyan’s head.
The filthy, murky water surged over her entire body.
Chi Xiyan’s hair came loose, and her filthy inner garment, soaked through, clung tightly to her skin.
Her body went rigid, her gaze hollow.
Every muscle in her body trembled, and she let out choked, sobbing sounds again and again.
“Oh, look, there’s still some water left in the bucket. Such a shame to waste it.”
The smile on the girl’s face grew more venomous.
“Might as well let our little sister Xiyan quench her thirst with what’s left, let her taste how salty it is.”
Hearing this, the two girls pinning Chi Xiyan down acted at once. One yanked at her hair, forcing her head up. The other pinched her chin, trying to pry her mouth open.
“No! No!”
Chi Xiyan let out terrified, sobbing cries, despair written all over her eyes.
“Chi Xiyan, our eldest sister is kindly offering you tea, you should be grateful!”
The Chi family children accepted into the family schoolhouse all had considerable talent.
The girls in front of her had all awakened their spiritual roots early and carried real cultivation.
Chi Xiyan, a mortal without a shred of cultivation, had no ability to resist them at all.
The bucket was lifted once more, tilting slowly toward her.
The two girls on either side clamped down on her head, forcing her lips slowly toward the rim of the filthy bucket.
The despair in Chi Xiyan’s eyes grew deeper and deeper.
Before entering the Illusory Heart Formation, she had considered countless possible ordeals. Yet she had never once imagined that the Illusory Heart Realm would turn out to be something this vile.

Questioning one’s true heart, seeing one’s true desires through clarity of mind?
Nonsense!
This wasn’t a trial at all! This was outright torture!
To Chi Xiyan, this felt like a slow execution by a thousand cuts.
The stench of the filthy water was already filling her nose, and Chi Xiyan closed her eyes in despair.
Just then, she heard a voice.
“Little Xiyan, are you in there?”
Hearing that voice, Chi Xiyan’s eyes flew open at once.
She knew this voice.
It was achingly familiar.
It sounded to her like celestial music.
Chi Muxue’s figure appeared in the doorway.
Her gaze swept through the doorway, and in an instant, her expression turned as cold as frost.
She lunged forward in a single stride and, quick as thunder, kicked the wooden bucket out of the girl’s hands, shattering it to pieces.
Only then did the girls realize what was happening.
“Young Miss!” The girl in the lead cried out in shock. She had never imagined Chi Muxue would appear here.
The next instant, a crisp slap rang out.
A red handprint bloomed across the girl’s face.
The girl froze on the spot, stunned.

That was not all. Chi Muxue turned and struck the two girls pinning Chi Xiyan down, one palm strike each.
Their cultivation was far too weak, and both were sent flying backward.
With her support gone, Chi Xiyan’s body went limp and began to collapse.
But she did not fall to the ground. Instead, she fell into a warm embrace.
A familiar fragrance filled her nose, and Chi Xiyan felt a little strength return to her weakened body.
She lifted her head and saw Chi Muxue’s young, sweet face.
Only now that lovely, sweet face was filled with fury.
Chi Muxue asked her, “Can you stand?”
“Mm.” Chi Xiyan nodded and, pressing her feet down slightly, pulled herself free from Chi Muxue’s support.
Seeing her soaked from head to toe, Chi Muxue’s eyes carried a flicker of heartache.
She took off her own outer robe and draped it over Chi Xiyan’s shoulders.
“I’m sorry, I came too late.” The girl apologized softly. “I should have noticed something was wrong sooner.”
Chi Xiyan reached up and pulled the outer robe tighter around herself.
Though her inner garment was still soaked through with the filthy water, the warmth left in the outer robe was comforting, and it eased her nerves considerably.
She shook her head. “You don’t need to apologize. This isn’t your fault…”
Chi Muxue looked at Chi Xiyan’s state and pressed her lips together.
But she said nothing more, turning instead to look at the girls trembling with fear nearby.
A pair of dark eyes brimmed with killing intent.
“You lot, do you want to die?”
