Volume 3, Chapter 435 – Have You Ever Heard of the Three Year Pact?
The Lingxiao Sword Sect, arrogant and domineering.
The Nanhe Song clan, borrowing the tiger’s might to bully others.
Exactly as she remembered them.
Song Shixuan, the young sect master of the Lingxiao Sword Sect and Sword Venerable Qingzhi’s foremost disciple, was even more repulsive than Chi Xiyan remembered.
And, of all things, she had been so close.
She had already resolved to take that final step, right here.
Why did this bastard have to show up now, of all times.
Chi Xiyan’s fists clenched.
“Song Shixuan!” she growled through gritted teeth. “Just because you have a revered elder backing you, does that mean you can act however you please?”
The Chi family elders around them also glared furiously at Song Shixuan.
“Heh.” Song Shixuan laughed lightly. “My apologies, but having someone backing me really does let me do as I please.”
That smug attitude was enough to make anyone want to step forward and punch him.
Chi Xiyan’s body trembled with fury.
She raised her hand, and with a sharp clang, a spirit sword appeared in her grip.
Seeing this, the Chi family elders around them cried out in alarm. “Xiyan, don’t!”
“Xiyan! Don’t act rashly!”
Song Shixuan noticed Chi Xiyan’s movement and sneered. “Chi Xiyan? I’ve heard of you. You’re the dog Chi Muxue keeps by her side.”
“What’s this? Chi Muxue hasn’t even said anything yet, and her dog is already losing its patience?”
“Or do you think you can actually win against the personal disciple of a revered elder?”
As Song Shixuan’s words fell, a sharp, imposing sword intent suddenly erupted from his body.

The overwhelming pressure swept across the entire hall like a wave crashing over the shore.
Every face in the crowd turned pale with shock.
The young sect master of the Lingxiao Sword Sect standing before them was arrogant, certainly, but he did have the strength to back it up.
A peak Fourth Realm sword cultivator, unrivaled among his peers.
His strength already surpassed most of the family elders present.
Song Shixuan maintained his sword intent, his face full of disdain. “A mangy dog. Do you really want to bare your fangs at me?”
Creak. Creak.
Chi Xiyan could hear the sword in her hand groaning under a strain it couldn’t bear.
This sword was one she had purchased from the Chi family’s merchant guild three years ago, and it had always served her well. Yet now, it seemed unable to withstand this man’s overwhelming presence.
The moment the sword in her hand began letting out that fearful groan, Chi Xiyan understood that she was no match for this man.
Just then, Chi Xiyan heard the girl beside her let out a soft laugh.
Chi Muxue gently pressed a hand to her shoulder and stepped forward.
“Young Master Song, is this really how the Lingxiao Sword Sect and the Nanhe Song clan conduct themselves?”
“Relying on your revered elder’s unrivaled might to force someone into submission?”
Song Shixuan narrowed his eyes, watching the girl approach slowly.
Chi Muxue gave her fingers a light flick, and a jade white spirit sword appeared in her hand.
She flicked the blade lightly.
“The sword techniques I inherited all come from the memories of a revered elder. The Lingxiao Sword Sect’s teachings are merely one part of that.”
“So your excuse is nothing more than that. An excuse.”

The girl let out a cold laugh.
“ Heh. The Nanhe Song clan and the Lingxiao Sword Sect, wanting to lay claim to the reincarnation of a sword venerable, it won’t be so easy!”
Song Shixuan’s expression hardened. “What are you trying to say.”
“Do you think that just you alone, just the Chi family alone, can defy the Lingxiao Sword Sect?”
“Even the Human Empress herself has to show some deference to whatever Sword Venerable Qingzhi wishes to do.”
Chi Muxue raised her eyes. “And if I refuse?”
“Heh.” Song Shixuan said coldly. “Then the Chi family behind you will cease to exist.”
The faces of everyone in the Chi family changed at once.
Chi Xiyan’s expression also darkened. She tried to step forward, but Chi Muxue held her back once again.
“The Chi family? I’ve never once cared about this family.” the girl said. “If you’re trying to threaten me with the Chi family, you’ve picked the wrong target.”
Everyone around them stared at Chi Muxue in disbelief.
“Is that so.” Song Shixuan laughed softly. “Then what about her?”
Clank clank clank!
The sound of chains suddenly rang out.
Chi Xiyan felt her body seize up, and she lost the ability to move.
Golden chains materialized out of thin air, binding her tightly.
This was Song Shixuan’s technique. He had actually used a spell to bind her.
Song Shixuan raised his hand, and as his palm closed, Chi Xiyan could feel the chains around her tightening further and further.
Chi Xiyan let out a furious shout. “Despicable!”

Chi Muxue’s expression changed. “Let her go!”
Song Shixuan stopped the motion of his hand. “My, my. It seems Miss Chi isn’t quite as unattached as she claims to be.”
“Well? Would you like to reconsider your earlier proposal, Miss Chi?”
“You despicable man.” Chi Xiyan shouted furiously. “Muxue, don’t listen to him! Don’t worry about me!”
Chi Muxue glanced at Chi Xiyan.
Her eyes held a mixture of helplessness and bitterness.
And some emotion that Chi Xiyan couldn’t quite read.
“I thought, if I just trained hard enough, if my talent was strong enough, I could live more freely alongside my sister.”
“I never imagined it would still end up like this.”
Sister?
Chi Xiyan froze for an instant.
Sister? Was she talking about her?
Even though Chi Xiyan had pointed out countless times that she was in fact older than her, this was the first time the girl had ever actually called her sister.
Chi Muxue shook her head, a self mocking smile on her lips. “That’s right, I truly don’t have the power to defy Sword Venerable Qingzhi.”
“But I can destroy the very thing you’re all after, and leave everyone with nothing!”
As the girl’s words fell, the sword that had been floating quietly beside her slowly began to turn, its tip drifting toward her own throat.
The moment Chi Xiyan saw it, her heart clenched violently.
She understood exactly what the girl intended to do.
“Muxue! Don’t!”

She struggled, trying to break free of the chains binding her, but they didn’t budge in the slightest.
Seeing this, Song Shixuan’s eyes slowly widened as well. “You would rather kill yourself than marry into the Song family?”
Chi Muxue lowered her head slightly. “Aside from this broken body of mine, I have nothing left. If you dare harm her, I will destroy this body myself!”
“Muxue.” Chi Xiyan stared at the girl, stunned.
“…” Song Shixuan watched Chi Muxue coldly.
The atmosphere seemed to fall into a deadlock.
A moment later, it was Song Shixuan’s own light laugh that broke the standoff.
“I never imagined that the esteemed eldest young lady of the Chi family, who claims not to care for her own family, would go this far for the sake of one woman.”
“She’s my sister.” Chi Muxue said.
“Sister? Heh heh.” Song Shixuan’s gaze swept over the two of them, a certain deeper meaning surfacing in his eyes.
“Actually, having both of you wouldn’t be out of the question either.”
Killing intent burst forth from Chi Muxue’s body. “Song Shixuan. Even if the Chi family is no match for the Lingxiao Sword Sect. Right now, you stand no more than ten steps away from me.”
“Believe it or not, even if you carry some life saving treasure gifted by your sword venerable, I am willing to trade my own life just to kill you!”
“Heh heh, there’s no need to be so hasty.” Song Shixuan laughed lightly. “Perhaps this matter has another way of being resolved.”
Chi Muxue stared coldly at Song Shixuan. “What way?”
“Miss Chi, why don’t we make a wager?”
Song Shixuan smiled calmly.
“Have you ever heard of the story behind the ‘Three Year Pact’?”
