Captain – Chapter 10 – Once You’ve Shared My Bed, You’re My Person

The downpour finally ended.

Although the small stone cave was still damp, compared to the wretched conditions of pitch-black darkness where day and night were indistinguishable, it was infinitely better.

There was even better news—after going through both freezing and burning hot stages, Caine’s body temperature had finally stabilized and was gradually returning to normal.

The next morning, the cold air extinguished the small flame. The captain and the raven, exhausted from various mishaps, were still deep in slumber, while the young man was the first to wake up.

Caine rubbed his somewhat painful temples, barely recovering his clarity from that feeling of weakness that follows the initial recovery from illness. Then he froze.

Even when facing the violent ocean and storms outside Devil’s Island, he could calmly give orders; even witnessing thunderbolts descending from the horizon like divine fury, he could remain composed. But the current situation made him truly experience, for the first time, an emotion called helplessness.

The golden hair, like waves, was scattered on his shoulder, flowing like water along his arm. That fair, exquisite face that would make the young ladies of imperial noble families envious was right before him. He could even feel the woman’s gentle breath and the slight ticklish sensation as her long eyelashes trembled against his face.

Roy was nestled in his arms like this, her hands tightly embracing his not-so-broad back.

Although the environment the two were in was very harsh, a romantic atmosphere slowly emerged and wouldn’t dissipate.

Coincidentally, the raven, which had been curled up beside them for warmth, was awakened by his small movements.

It hopped away a few steps, tilting its head to look at the two in a tight embrace. It seemed to recall scenes from many locations, different luxurious hotels, where the captain embraced numerous beautiful young ladies from noble families in bed. Only now, the pleasing girl in the picture was gone, replaced by a “Mola” it despised the most.

So Alfie began to cry out shrilly, hoping to make its captain more clear-headed and stop being immersed in this strange state.

“It’s dawn! It’s dawn!”

“Shh… I know, stop making noise, stupid bird.” Due to lack of sleep, Roy woke up reluctantly, her voice full of languor and fatigue. She withdrew her arms from around the young man, then propped one hand on his chest while rubbing her sleepy eyes with the other, asking it: “Has he woken up?”

“I’m awake.”

The young man’s complex and somewhat bewildered voice reached her ears. Roy immediately awoke from her hazy state. When she opened her eyes, her gaze met directly with those ocean-blue eyes.

She was slightly surprised at first, then a hint of guilt like a thief’s rose in her heart, but it was quickly drowned by calmness. Without changing her position, she asked him steadily: “How are you? Still feeling cold or feverish?”

Roy’s pretense was too natural, or rather, it wasn’t pretense at all, just a deliberately magnified small thought. So Caine didn’t notice anything strange, nor could he capture the fleeting craftiness beneath the calmness of her dark golden pupils. He shook his head gently: “I’m better now.”

“That’s good. It wasn’t in vain that this captain sacrificed herself, being embraced by you all night.”

Hearing these words, Caine looked with complex emotions at this pirate captain who had been taking care of him wholeheartedly since his misfortune. He thought about how they were mortal enemies before meeting, and now, with the First Fleet annihilated and the Mermaid abandoning her, they had become a pair of unfortunate souls dependent on each other for survival.

During these days of interaction, Caine knew that the relationship between himself and this captain had grown closer, but there was still a thin veil between them—a barrier constructed by their positions and stereotypes.

But after yesterday’s downpour, facing the woman’s seemingly relieved joking words, that thin veil was ultimately pierced.

Without any ideological struggle, Caine sincerely thanked her: “Thank you for your care, but… could you get off me first? This is somewhat inappropriate.”

Roy began to secretly get excited because of his thanks, but deliberately ignored the latter part of his words. She brushed aside her somewhat disheveled hair and said: “A simple ‘thank you’ counts as repayment to me?”

“I know this is far from enough, but now that we’re stranded on a deserted island, I truly have nothing with which to repay you.” Caine could guess her meaning, but this time he didn’t directly refuse, instead circumventing the topic.

Having finally waited for such an opportunity, Roy naturally wouldn’t let it pass, but she didn’t forcibly turn the conversation around either. Instead, she followed his words: “Even if we leave this godforsaken place, what could you give me? Please don’t mention gold and silver treasures, you know, I don’t lack those things.”

In fact, she was very short of them. Who wouldn’t want more gold and silver treasures?

Her heart secretly ached a bit, but Roy’s face still maintained a fox-like smile: “As for the Governor… I don’t think he would seek official positions for a pirate. Of course, I declare in advance that I won’t accept any goodwill from your Auran Empire.”

Seeing Caine sink into contemplation, Roy didn’t urge him, just smiled at him, waiting for him to give his final answer.

“I can, for you, no, I can request my father to open up a unique trading route for you.”

“On this route, only your people and ships will be allowed to pass. I guarantee that whether you conduct trade yourself or lease it to others, the value this route can bring you will far exceed the wealth accumulated through your pirate career.”

“Good… you’re kidding.” The captain almost immediately agreed, but quickly took a big breath and reluctantly changed her words: “In your eyes, am I just an undeniable money-grubber?”

Don’t be moved, don’t be moved. With the person in hand, wouldn’t all other additional things come naturally?

Roy constantly affirmed her beliefs in her heart, yet she found it hard not to feel regret. After all, the interests represented by the empire’s special shipping lanes were truly massive. It’s well known that the Great Captain who currently rules the Southern Islands obtained his unimaginable wealth precisely because he was on good terms with the Emperor and got several secret routes connecting the Eastern and Western Seas.

Caine naturally couldn’t guess Roy’s thoughts. In his view, this captain might truly be displeased because he was still using benefits as negotiation conditions. After all, pirates always claim to be true to their feelings, yet they would draw knives against each other for a few copper coins—truly a contradictory group.

Not daring to let the officer propose more superior conditions, Roy truly feared she wouldn’t be able to restrain herself, thereby losing the favorable situation she had spent so much effort to create. She pretended to rub her temples as if she had a headache, looking extremely helpless: “You’re not unclear about what I want. Why does a grown man like to engage in these roundabout negotiations?”

The young man thought longer this time, but his final answer still greatly disappointed Roy: “I won’t become a pirate. I have my own principles. Burning, killing, looting… I can’t accept these.”

“Can’t you be less stubborn? You don’t have to do those things personally. Moreover, you know that I’m called the gentleman among pirates, adhering to pirate codes more strictly than anyone else. As long as the prey doesn’t resist too fiercely, there’s no need for bloodshed.” Roy was like a cat with its fur standing on end.

“Similarly, in the navy, your title is the Golden-Eyed Devil.” Caine’s expression remained unchanged.

“Those are all slanders you’ve thrown at me. If your ships didn’t chase after me like sharks smelling blood, like madmen, how would they have been sunk by the Mermaid?”

“That’s because…” Caine’s brows slightly furrowed, wanting to say it was because the other party had first plundered imperial merchant ships and caused some bloody incidents, and his side was merely retaliating. But all his subsequent words were blocked by Roy’s statement.

“Enough.” Roy raised her hand to stop the naval officer who wanted to refute, her face expressionless: “Those are all past events. Now your fleet is destroyed, my crew has betrayed me. What’s the point of arguing about those things?”

“Anyway, you’ve shared my bed, so you’re my person now. You must… you must take responsibility for my chastity!”
