Captain – Chapter 101 – The Ambiguous Bedroom
Captain – Chapter 101 – The Ambiguous Bedroom
=================================
“Little Ceci, do you think I could…”
“No.”
“But…”
“No buts. Maybe when you’re… back in my bed.”
The girls’ deliberately lowered voices reached his ears as Caine stood with folded arms, leaning against the dark gray wall decorated with rose patterns beside the wooden door, waiting for the end of the final negotiation between the captain and the proprietress.
The content of the negotiation, it seemed, was that Roy wanted to stay overnight in Cecilia’s bedroom, but the ice beauty was clearly unwilling.
Finally, the voices in the bedroom disappeared, replaced by increasingly clear footsteps.
The wooden door opened silently, and the crestfallen captain was pushed out of the room by Cecilia. Before she could say anything more, the bedroom door slammed shut.
“Sigh, when did Little Ceci become so unsympathetic?”

Roy sighed helplessly, then patted her first mate’s arm, indicating he should follow her. “But although this girl often wears a cold face and her words are as sharp as knives, she’s still very kind-hearted.”
The two walked along the candlelit corridor for a few minutes, passing three tightly closed nanmu doors before seeing a room with its door slightly ajar. This must be the bedroom the proprietress had prepared for them.
The fourth floor of the Banshee’s Eye, including the proprietress’s residence, had only five rooms in total. Those privileged enough to stay on the fourth floor had either brought enormous profits to the tavern or had an extremely close relationship with Cecilia.
And now, of the remaining four rooms, except for the one hastily prepared for Roy and her companion, the other three rooms were completely silent, as quiet as death.
It’s worth noting that in the past, when business was booming, the fourth floor of the Banshee’s Eye never had vacant rooms. Those rarely-seen great merchants came and went like fish and shrimp, and latecomers could only squeeze in with ordinary guests on the third floor.
From this, one could see how bleak the tavern’s situation had become.
Stopping in front of the unopened wooden door, Roy gently shook her head, casting aside those complicated and heavy thoughts. She reached for the cool handle and smiled at Caine: “Even though Little Ceci seemed indifferent to me earlier, you can see her hidden thoughts from the room she prepared.”
“What hidden thoughts?” the first mate asked curiously.
“What thoughts could there be but jealousy? Even though you’re a man, it doesn’t prevent her from harboring hostility toward you. After all, your captain is just too popular. In the past, she was often jealous of… men.”
Listening to the captain’s confident discourse, Caine’s eyebrows drooped. Clearly, during these months together, he had seen no shortage of Roy’s self-aggrandizement. “Perhaps you’re overthinking, Captain.”

“How could I be? If she weren’t jealous, how could she possibly choose this room? You should know this is the double room with the beds farthest apart on the fourth floor.”
Roy smiled smugly, then opened the door. The soft candlelight flickering in the night breeze from the corridor illuminated her beautiful face, making that confident smile appear somewhat stiff.
“Oh, bad girl.”
Seeing this, Caine stepped forward puzzledly, coming up behind the young woman and looking into the room along her line of sight. Now he understood why the captain had such a reaction.
The young man’s expression also turned somewhat unpleasant. He nodded appreciatively: “Indeed a bad girl.”
Only at this moment did they both understand why Cecilia had taken so long earlier to arrange their accommodations, and why they had vaguely heard the footsteps of servants coming and going. It was all for… creating such a room.
Many rose-gold candelabras with six white candles stood on the tables and wooden stands in the bedroom. The soft light diffused throughout the spacious room. In the center of the bedroom, contrary to Roy’s description of two distant beds, there was only one large four-poster bed in goose yellow, wide enough for two people to sleep facing each other.
Above that large bed was a square, dark wooden canopy. Semi-transparent curtains with violet patterns hung from three sides, making it difficult for those outside to see clearly what was within.
Undeniably, the room’s arrangement was extremely luxurious, to the point that even great merchants from the Federation couldn’t find fault with it.

But the problem was that every aspect of this room exuded an undisguised air of intimacy, suitable for merchants bringing their lovers for sightseeing and selling goods, but hardly appropriate for a captain and first mate.
It’s well known that on a pirate ship, the captain’s bed is like a gilded throne, not to be touched by anyone, or it would be challenging the captain’s authority.
“When did Little Ceci become so vindictive? Wasn’t that slap enough to vent her anger? Did I offend her somewhere else in the past?”
Roy muttered, stepping on the soft carpet laid on the floor, slowly walking into the bedroom, examining every painstakingly arranged decoration, thinking this would be more appropriate as a bridal chamber for her and the proprietress.
Casually picking up a crystal glass already placed on the table, Roy narrowed her eyes and took a sip of the dark red wine. She let out a light breath, then looked at the first mate who remained standing outside the door, frowning in thought: “Come in, what are you thinking about?”
“What if…”
After hesitating for a moment, Caine couldn’t help suggesting: “What if we go back to the proprietress and ask for another bedroom?”
Roy swirled the wine glass, listening to the pleasant sound of the liquid moving: “It would be useless. Since Little Ceci went to such lengths to get revenge on me, she certainly won’t have a change of heart and show mercy. I’m afraid by now there are guards posted in front of her door, and if you go, you’ll only be sent back with the excuse that the proprietress is already asleep.”
Hearing this, Caine’s eye twitched a few times: “Captain, you seem very experienced with such situations?”
“Of course, don’t I understand her temperament? Once she’s stubborn, she won’t listen to any sweet talk. But damn it, what is she trying to do today? Is she trying to sell me out?” The captain suddenly seemed to realize something and said through gritted teeth.

Since the captain had already said so, Caine knew there was no use in going back. He could only sigh resignedly, his feet feeling like lead as he walked into the room, closing the wooden door behind him.
“Hey, hey, hey, I’m not saying, but what’s with that expression? Is sharing a room with me really so difficult for you?” Roy was very displeased with the first mate’s reaction, putting down her wine glass with an unhappy face.
They had shared accommodations many times before, starting from Frans Island, not to mention that on that deserted island, they had even embraced for warmth. So the captain couldn’t understand why the young man would be so resistant.
In fact, Caine wasn’t resistant to sharing a room; he was resistant to sharing a bed.
“No, Captain, you misunderstand.”
The first mate shook his head, walked up to her, took another wine glass, and looked at the face reflected in the crystal-clear liquid: “I just…”
“I know.”
The captain interrupted him, giving her own guess with a mischievous smile.
“Just shy, right, my dear first mate?”
