Captain – Chapter 128 – The Coward and the Little Drunkard

“What… what do you want?” Caine was stunned for quite a while, asking somewhat bewilderedly.

He certainly knew what Roy was referring to, but her sudden advance left him so dazed that he had no idea how to react, and could only pretend to be confused like this.

“What do I want?”

Roy tilted her head, her eyes revealing a hint of puzzlement.

Seeing this, Caine secretly breathed a sigh of relief, believing that the captain was definitely drunk and had said such things because her mind was clouded, or perhaps it was just pretending—just another prank.

“Oh, you don’t understand, right? That makes sense, you probably haven’t had much experience with women…”

Just as the First Mate was feeling relieved, the captain nodded as if suddenly realizing something, and smiled up at him. “It’s actually very simple, things like sweet talk, kisses, my body—which one do you want, or perhaps all of them? I don’t mind.”

“You’re not going to tell me that you, a young man from a noble family, know nothing about this, are you?” Seeing Caine freeze again, Roy’s mouth twisted with a hint of complaint.

For a young man from a noble family—no, for any man—this was clearly a malicious provocation.

Taking a deep breath, Caine unwrapped the girl’s arms from around his neck, then held her shoulders to steady her, and asked with furrowed brows, “Of course I know, but I want to ask, Captain, are you… having a drunken fit?”

“I, I’m not drunk. Captain Roy never gets drunk, much less has drunken fits.”

If it weren’t for the young man supporting her, with Roy’s unstable center of gravity, she would have likely fallen headfirst onto the bed. But even so, the girl continued to defend herself indistinctly.

“You are having a drunken fit.”

Caine’s mouth twitched, and he intended to gently lay her down, but was firmly grasped by the girl’s hand on his arm. He tried to move, but found himself completely immobilized.

Only now did the First Mate remember that the person before him was not some fragile girl; even drunk, she was still a fierce beast who could easily take a life.

Thinking of a worrying possibility, Caine’s eyelids twitched anxiously several times. “Cap… Captain?”

“Cai… Caine, I’ve thought for a long time to come up with this solution, do you really… not want to try it?”

Under the captain’s strength that far exceeded that of normal people, Caine couldn’t prevent her from coming closer. His arm was moved from the girl’s shoulder to her waist, and then he was pressed against the bedpost by Roy.

Their faces were no more than two inches apart. Caine felt the captain’s warm breath, and his deep blue eyes were filled with disbelief.

How… how did it become like this in an instant?

“Captain, don’t be rash. This is forced trading, not protected by imperial law. Let’s talk this through properly.”

Just like that morning in the cave, facing the captain’s shameless advances, Caine finally panicked. He spoke hastily, inwardly begging this pirate to come to her senses in time.

The raven stared with its small eyes, tilting its head on the windowsill to observe the scene, but unlike its behavior on the island, it didn’t shrilly object. Instead, it cooed softly, adding a different kind of charm to the quiet room.

It was the melody of a song, a melody named “Devil’s Treasure.”

“You don’t want to?”

To the First Mate’s relief, Roy didn’t take further action as in typical stories where one is overcome by drunkenness. Instead, she just rested her forehead against his chest, listening to his somewhat rapid heartbeat, and asked softly.

Hearing the girl’s somewhat weary whisper, Caine was silent for a moment, then said helplessly, “At least, Captain, at least wait until you’re sober, and then we can talk properly, okay?”

“Would it make any difference?”

Roy lowered her head, preventing the First Mate from seeing her expression. “Whether it’s day or night, whether I’m intoxicated or sober, would your answer be any different?”

“You’re always like this, thinking you’re considering everything for me, unwilling to cross the line before the mystery is revealed. But have you ever thought about what I might want?”

The raven’s song gradually quieted, and the captain’s voice likewise became subdued.

“Caine, I’m not one of those naive girls born into wealth and luxury, clothed in silk and satin, who have never seen the miserable state of the empire’s lowest classes. I crawled out of that abyss where people couldn’t get enough food or warm clothes. To survive, I’ve done all sorts of despicable things, and I’ve never believed in any insubstantial vows… even those that came from my own mouth.”

“Do you know why I drank so much alcohol? Do you know why I’m considering this? It’s a bit funny, actually it’s because… I lack a sense of security?”

Roy sat up from the First Mate’s embrace, and at this moment, Caine finally saw her expression clearly.

Numbness, coldness, and a hint of fear.

Perhaps this was the true face beneath Captain Roy’s countless masks?

“You’re different from others. I can’t control you in any way, and I feel uneasy about your affection that asks for nothing in return. I worry that your love will fade away, or that I won’t have the chance to reveal the answer to you. So, if you truly love me, please show me.”

“Take something, First Mate.”

“Take something! Take something!”

At some point, the raven that had fled far away now appeared on the wooden cabinet beside the bed, tilting its small head and urging in a low voice.

“I didn’t know you felt this way, Captain. I can hardly imagine…”

Caine’s lips moved, but he found that at this moment, all words were so pale. So he cupped the girl’s face in his hands and slowly lowered his head.

That’s more like it. Whether it’s love or a transaction, equivalent benefits are what make it convincing. So take it, First Mate, whatever it is.

Roy smiled silently, gently closing her eyes.

There was no candlelight in the bedroom, nor any breeze, only the cold starlight filtering through the gaps in the curtains, falling on the semi-transparent drapes. Following the slight protrusions of the violet pattern, it reflected onto the canopy.

Those tiny gems shimmered slightly, like a reflection of the real starry sky.

Everything was so quiet and beautiful, until…

“Huh?”

The expected deep kiss didn’t land on her lips, but only lingered on her forehead for a moment before gradually moving away. Roy looked at those azure eyes with slight confusion, seemingly not having quite processed what happened. “Just… just that?”

“This is enough, at least for now,” Caine smiled and said.

Roy was silent for a moment, then the corner of her mouth curved into a mischievous smile. She pushed against the First Mate’s chest, using the momentum to fall back onto the bed, covering her eyes with her arm, her voice lazy: “Coward.”

Hearing the girl’s breathing quickly soften upon contact with the pillow, Caine gently shook his head and pulled the covers over her.

“Still better than being a little drunkard like you, Captain.”
