Captain – Chapter 179 – Prescribed Diet

Like awakening from a long nightmare, when Roy slowly opened her eyes, her dark golden irises were still covered with a hazy mist. But as she regained consciousness, those soft, timid emotions quickly vanished, leaving only languor and drowsiness.

With a small yawn, Roy propped herself up on the bed. Just as she leaned against the bedframe, the cold touch of the wood made her shiver.

Looking at her body, the girl was surprised to discover that not only was she completely naked, but she was wrapped in snow-white bandages, looking almost like a mummy from ancient legends.

Blinking several times, the confused captain scanned her surroundings, seeing the raven sleeping against her and her First Mate slumped at the edge of the bed, his face full of weariness.

After pondering for a while and still not figuring things out, Roy carefully reached out her hand and vigorously ruffled that silver hair that seemed particularly dazzling in the light.

Caine was startled awake by the sudden “attack.” He opened his eyes abruptly, his azure eyes full of vigilance. But upon seeing the captain grinning at him, the wariness in his heart completely disappeared, and his tense body gradually relaxed.

“When did you wake up, Captain?” The First Mate sat up from the edge of the bed and sat beside her.

“Just now, but it’s really surprising. You usually wake up at least two hours earlier than me, so why are you sleeping like the dead today?”

Roy paid no mind to the young man’s gaze on her body, or rather had no such awareness at all, as she gently stroked the cheek of the raven still deep in slumber.

“It’s a long story. Let me find some clothes for you first.”

The captain might lack self-awareness, but Caine was unwilling to so rudely gaze upon a young woman’s body. He rubbed his somewhat foggy head and left the captain’s quarters.

Shortly after, the First Mate returned with an intact sailor’s uniform, while his other hand carried a tray with white bread, smoked meat, and half a cup of water.

Placing the tray on the wooden cabinet, Caine handed the sailor’s uniform to Roy, then pulled over a wooden chair and sat facing the door of the captain’s quarters: “I apologize, but we don’t have better clothes on board.”

“What’s there to apologize for? I usually wear clothes like these anyway.”

Hearing the rustling sounds of changing clothes behind him, Caine calmly explained: “The coarse linen material is too rough and might affect the healing of your wounds. It could even leave scars. We’ll need to change them when we get back to Yadris.”

“Tsk, how troublesome. I know my own body. I’ve had worse injuries in the past and still wore the same clothes as the crew.” There was a hint of impatience in the girl’s voice.

“It’s different now. You’re ultimately…”

Caine sighed softly, wanting to persuade her, but was choked by the captain’s immediate response.

“Ultimately what? Ultimately turned into a woman? Please, it’s not a big deal. And you don’t need to put on this act of turning your back to me. If I’m not mistaken, you’re the one who changed my bandages, which means this is the second time you’ve seen everything. You should be used to it by now.”

Coughing lightly at these unfiltered words, the First Mate replied with an awkward expression: “This isn’t about being used to it or not. The education I received doesn’t allow me to…”

He paused, realizing he had almost been led astray by the girl. Caine’s eye twitched as he turned to look at the now-dressed captain, and said solemnly: “Captain, you’re not who you used to be. Both your physical condition and strength have been significantly affected. If you misjudge your capabilities, it could lead to unnecessary danger.”

“I know, I know. You don’t need to tell me that.”

The First Mate had clearly stepped on a landmine. Roy’s face darkened, but she didn’t argue. She simply moved forward sullenly, took the tray in front of her, and started eating breakfast with her head down.

Thinking the girl still wasn’t taking it seriously, Caine sighed deeply and said earnestly: “Captain, do you realize you passed out from blood loss yesterday? If we hadn’t discovered it early and the ship’s doctor hadn’t arrived in time, you might never have woken up again.”

The captain glanced at him, knowing that if she didn’t respond, he would certainly go on and on about it. So she replied listlessly: “I already said I know. I’ve learned my lesson this time and will be more careful in the future. Stop nagging.”

Seeing the girl sandwich the smoked meat between bread and then bite into it fiercely, as if she were biting into him, Caine smiled bitterly and said: “That’s good. Also, I hope in the future when making plans, you can consult with me. I’ll… try my best to respect your decisions, alright?”

Slowly lowering the bread she was about to put in her mouth, Roy thought quietly for a moment, and finally gave a soft “Mmm” without saying anything more.

Seeing this, Caine finally relaxed completely: “Well, you eat first. I’ll go find the ship’s doctor.”

“What for? You might as well bring me more water. I don’t know why, but I’m especially thirsty today.”

After emptying the half cup of water, Roy shook the cup dissatisfiedly and said: “No, just bring me a few bottles of rum instead. I feel like I could drink an entire barrel.”

“You can’t drink too much water after losing so much blood, and Anderson also said…”

Caine shook his head gently, but before he could finish explaining to the girl, the wooden door was forcefully pushed open.

Warm sea breeze and long-absent sunlight poured into the captain’s quarters, along with the ship’s doctor dressed in a pure black formal suit, immaculately groomed from head to toe.

Anderson continued the First Mate’s sentence: “I also said that you’re not allowed to drink alcohol until you recover, and your diet must be light but nutritious. So, Captain, if you want to drink rum…”

The ship’s doctor stepped to the bedside and smiled: “That’s just a dream.”

Handing a piece of parchment to Caine, Anderson rubbed his eyes with heavy dark circles, saying tiredly: “This is the diet I’ve prescribed for her. For half a month, no, one full month, meals must strictly follow the proportions and configurations listed here.”

Slightly opening her mouth, Roy looked at the doctor’s uncompromising face and the First Mate seriously reading the contents of the parchment. She quickly stuffed the half-made sandwich in her hand into her mouth, then snatched the dietary regulations and rapidly scanned them.

Looking at the vegetables listed on the parchment—most of which she had never even tried—and the words “ALCOHOL STRICTLY PROHIBITED” highlighted in red ink, the girl swallowed her food with difficulty and said with a grim expression: “This is practically asking for my life. Are these… are these things even meant for human consumption? Caine, tell me, since when do pirates drink milk three times a day? I’m not a child!”

“A patient is like a child, needing to obediently follow the doctor’s orders,” the ship’s doctor said with a smile.

Seeing the girl grinding her teeth and looking around for a weapon, planning to finish him off with one slash, Anderson’s eyelids twitched violently as he hurriedly said: “Wait, wait, wait! I don’t want to be cut down by you. I’m just giving a suggestion, a small suggestion. Whether to adopt it or not, of course, depends on the First Mate, since he’ll be taking care of your meals and daily life from now on.”

Hearing this, Roy smiled triumphantly and leaned back comfortably against the bedframe: “I don’t have any real issues. I’ll be vigorous again after a few days of recovery. There’s no need to make things so complicated, right, First Mate?”

In the captain’s view, although Caine wanted her to take her physical changes seriously, he certainly wouldn’t make a big fuss over these trivial matters.

But this time she was destined to be disappointed.

Caine retrieved the parchment from Roy’s hand and rolled it up, placing it in his breast pocket: “No, I think the ship doctor’s suggestion makes a lot of sense. In the coming days, I’ll monitor your diet closely, Captain.”

“You… you two…”

Roy pointed at them with trembling fingers, wanting to say their alliance was utterly despicable and shameless to the extreme.

But before the girl could express her displeasure, the ship suddenly shuddered. Accompanied by a series of light, quick footsteps, Daniel ran to the door of the captain’s quarters, his face full of joy.

“Captain, First Mate, we’ve reached Yadris!”
