Captain – Chapter 183 – The Final Journey

A couple embracing and kissing in the midst of the celebrating crowd didn’t attract much attention, so despite people constantly passing by them, no one recognized them as the new rulers of Yadris.

The revelry continued, with alcohol splashing everywhere like rain, drenching the participants of this celebration that ignored social distinctions and focused solely on joy with the strong scent of spirits.

After some time, the Captain and First Mate slowly separated.

Licking the rum from her lips, Roy’s soft emotions vanished, replaced by that charming yet extremely punchable composed smile.

One moment she was a young woman craving love and care, the next she transformed back into the cold, profit-driven pirate captain. Though the transition seemed abrupt, on Roy it appeared completely natural.

Wiping the remaining alcohol from her cheek, the Captain shrugged nonchalantly: “Consider it a small reward, like candy for an obedient child.”

Caine asked softly: “I should be the only one getting the candy, right, Captain?”

“I must say, Caine, your possessiveness sometimes makes even me uncomfortable, considering I used to be quite the philanthropic gentleman.”

Roy tilted her chin up, gesturing for her First Mate to follow as she walked toward the port: “But since I fell victim to that devil’s trap, fell victim to… your trap, I suppose I have to settle down. So yes, Caine, this candy is unique and belongs only to you.”

“I recall it was you who went to great lengths to make me your First Mate, yet now you’re talking as if I seduced some innocent maiden?”

Caine shook his head with a laugh, then looked at the approaching dock and the gray-white warship anchored not far beyond it, his tone returning to normal: “Captain, are we going to find Bivis now?”

After learning about the legend from Roy, it seemed clear that the witch was Annisdora. The only remaining uncertainty could be confirmed by asking the Lady’s fervent devotee.

“That’s right. That fellow has concealed quite a lot from me. If he refuses to be honest, then I’ll regretfully announce that our deal is over.”

Roy’s smile grew cold as she said dispassionately: “No matter what hidden identity our scholar has, no matter how significant his background might be, anyone who tries to use me will pay a heavy price.”

This was the truth. Roy hadn’t planned to spare even that devil, let alone a Death-Fearer who, though immortal, possessed no fighting ability.

Hearing this, Caine coughed lightly and said: “In fact, perhaps even the scholar himself doesn’t know about the Lady’s existence. Otherwise, why would he pray to the Lady for a miracle to help us, his competitors?”

Though Roy’s true objective in going to Satin Island wasn’t the magic box, but rather the mysterious map of unknown waters left by Captain Edward, she naturally wouldn’t miss the opportunity to obtain the powerful magic box if possible.

And after obtaining the box, whether to use it to conquer the unknown waters or to entrust this strange and dangerous object to the Pirate King would be viable options. But among these choices, returning it to Annisdora was notably absent.

How much anger and resentment had that deity, sealed for hundreds of years, accumulated? Would she view the Pirate King’s heirs as enemies and, upon regaining her power, summon storms to engulf the entire Southern Islands? These secrets remained unknown.

So Roy would rather the magic box remain forever at the bottom of the sea than see it back in the Lady’s hands, or if possible…

She even wanted to kill the Lady to eliminate future trouble.

Of course, she kept these thoughts deeply hidden, not mentioning them even to Caine. A deity, even one who had lost most of her power, remained a deity. Trying to kill her would surely invite boundless danger and terrible curses, and the young man would certainly not support her taking such a risk.

In fact, Roy herself knew this was unrealistic. If the Lady could answer Bivis’s prayers and calm the storms and whirlpools in the Mermaid’s path, she could surely make the storms more violent, violent enough to shatter the Ocean Goddess’s protection over it.

However… it wasn’t entirely hopeless.

Recalling the vision she had on the Mermaid when she was nearly exhausted and trapped in a desperate situation, and the eye contact with the Pirate King seated on his throne across thousands of miles of ocean and countless years of time, Roy was certain that what the devil had established in her was not merely a curse made in jest, but also concealed deeper secrets.

“Captain?”

The young man’s call gradually became clearer. Roy blinked, pulling herself from her thoughts to find they had arrived at the dock. On the dock, Ben was waiting with several sailors around a wooden coffin, apparently waiting for her and the First Mate to arrive.

Seeing this, the raven that had been perched on the young woman’s shoulder, listening to their discussion about the unfamiliar deity and nearly falling asleep from boredom, suddenly became alert. It flapped its wings and flew up, soon landing on the not-very-large wooden coffin, gently pecking at the cross in the center.

“This is…”

Walking past the path cleared by the sailors, Roy came to the coffin, gently stroking its edge, and asked the missionary who stood behind it with his eyes closed in prayer.

The missionary slowly opened his eyes and answered solemnly: “The person lying in the coffin is named Richi Quake, Captain. I have already prayed for him, may his soul be freed from the shackles of death and journey to heaven. If he could be buried in a church, it would be best…”

“That’s enough, I understand. You don’t need to say more.”

Roy waved her hand, signaling the missionary to step back, then looked at her First Mate: “You arranged all this?”

“Yes, when I returned to the tavern, I originally planned to bring you here.”

Caine gazed at the young woman’s dark golden pupils and explained: “I thought… he must have special meaning to you, so I didn’t let the crew throw his body into the sea. When we reached Yadris, I had the carpenter make him a coffin. As for whether to bury him, and where, that’s all up to you to decide.”

Listening to the First Mate’s somewhat somber words, Roy shook her head with a light laugh, gently patting the coffin lid: “Why be so formal? It’s just someone dying, that’s all.”

“We pirates pursue carefree lives and never care about our final resting places. Even Captain Ilias, before he left, only asked me to find some place to bury him, saying he was tired of the rootless life at sea. He never cared about coffins.”

“Moreover, whether it’s Richi or me, we’re destined for hell, to turn that place upside down. Who wants to go to heaven? So remember, Caine, if one day I’m gone and you want to join me, don’t take the wrong path to the boring paradise.”

“I understand.” Seeing no sign of sadness in the young woman, Caine secretly sighed in relief and responded softly.

“Of course, it’s best to forget about anything as mushy as dying for love. I’d rather you die gloriously than come crying to find me. Otherwise, I’ll chase you away.”

Roy smiled, then sighed helplessly: “But since you’ve arranged everything, let’s deal with the trouble that little bastard left behind before seeing Bivis. Gentlemen!”

Clapping her hands, the Captain ordered the sailors: “Carry this and follow me. Let’s give Captain Richi his final journey.”

“Richi Captain, Richi Captain!”

Perched atop the raised coffin, the raven called out, looking down from its high position, though its voice was no longer sharp but carried a hint of sadness.
