Captain – Chapter 188 – The Death Silence
Captain – Chapter 188 – The Death Silence
“The story of the Death Silence dates back hundreds of years, to an ancient family in the Auran Empire—the von Castein family.”
The scholar walked back behind the wooden table, pulled out a chair and sat down. The oil lamp’s light illuminated his face with stark contrasts of light and shadow.
Bringing two dusty wooden chairs from the corner of the room, Caine was about to bend down to wipe away the dust when the Captain already sat down carelessly, assuming a posture of someone eager to hear a story.
She always harbored strong interest in such fantastical legends.
The young dragon, suddenly deprived of affection, hesitated for a moment before leaping down from the table into the young woman’s arms, coiling up comfortably.
Seeing this, Caine shook his head helplessly, casually dusted off his chair, and sat down, saying to Bivis: “I know this family. According to imperial historical records, Duke Manfred von Castein was a genuine witchcraft fanatic.”
Born into a military family and receiving an almost rigorous all-around education, Caine was familiar with many rebellions and bizarre events in ancient imperial history, including that Blood-Thirsty Duke who studied witchcraft and conducted horrifying human experiments.
“Yes, that duke was the beginning of everything, the root of the Death Silence’s terrifying legend.”

Bivis crossed his fingers and rested them before his face, the firelight reflecting in his pupils, revealing no emotion: “My teacher once said that Manfred was a genius. He possessed biological knowledge far beyond ordinary people and had extraordinary achievements in natural science. Had he continued on the path of scholarship, he would certainly have become an even greater natural science master than him.”
“But unfortunately, he took the wrong path. Because of his desire for immortality, the duke secretly conducted many inhumane rituals and experiments. In the end, not only did he fail, but he also transformed himself and his family into those evil creatures craving blood—the so-called Blood Cravers.”
“Blood Cravers? Are they similar to vampires?”
Hearing this unfamiliar term, Roy’s eyes brightened slightly as she asked with interest.
“Vampires are fictional creatures. Neither in myths and legends nor in records of bizarre incidents do such creatures exist—beings that avoid light, fear the sun, and possess fantastic magical powers.”
The scholar shook his head slightly and explained: “In fact, Blood Cravers are unlike the various strange vampires in stories, except for their need for blood to sustain life. They don’t fear sunlight, cannot assimilate others, and their bodies are not impervious to weapons—they just possess physical strength far beyond normal humans.”
Examining Roy with a gaze as if looking at a monster, Bivis said somewhat sighing: “Actually, aside from their bizarre feeding requirements, the monsters of the von Castein family were quite similar to you. I still cannot understand why you possess such terrifying power.”
Looking at her fair palms, Roy shrugged: “I don’t know, perhaps it’s inherited from that dead father of mine.”

Hearing this, Bivis’s gaze suddenly flickered. Under Roy’s slightly puzzled gaze, he slowly nodded and said thoughtfully: “Yes, that might explain it. That fellow was also a monster.”
Before the young woman could ask, the scholar naturally changed the subject: “Anyway, the chief culprit for everything was that duke. Including him, plus his wife and six offspring, there were only eight Blood Cravers born in the world, but they mostly died in the empire’s purge.”
“Mostly?”
Caine frowned slightly and interrupted: “But according to records, after their crimes were exposed, the von Castein family fled toward the Federation aboard the Taranhof, but due to leaked information, they were hunted by the imperial navy and eventually crashed into the Death Silence Triangle. After confirmation, none survived.”
“Confirmation? How was it confirmed, and by whom? The imperial navy never entered the Death Silence Triangle. They just assumed, based on stereotypes, that anyone entering that graveyard of souls would certainly perish, nothing more.”
The scholar spoke without emotion: “But they can’t be blamed. After all, no one wants to enter that hellish place, and if there had been no accident, the von Castein family indeed had no reason to survive.”
“Yet someone did survive.”
Hearing this, Roy seemed to understand everything: “Or rather, with the power of Lady Annisdora, some of them, or perhaps one of them, was resurrected and crawled back from hell.”

“Yes, that was the duke’s youngest daughter, the only living Blood Craver in the world today—Vivian von Castein.”
The scholar lowered his hands, tapping his fingers lightly on the table, and added: “She is also the captain of the resurfaced Taranhof… or as it’s now known, the Death Silence.”
“Oh, what a fascinating story. Since the captain is a monster, what about the crew? What are they?” The Captain clapped her hands and asked with a smile.
“They are water ghosts transformed from the slaves who were imprisoned on the Taranhof and used for experiments. This is all I know about the Death Silence.” The scholar answered softly.
Having obtained all the answers she wanted, Roy sighed in satisfaction, nodded to Bivis, and then stood up holding the drowsy young dragon: “Thank you for the information, Scholar. I will find a way to deal with the Death Silence. As for this little one…”
“Please take care of it, since it doesn’t want to approach me anyway. I’ll prepare a document about its dietary requirements and have someone deliver it to you.”
Hearing the implicit meaning in Roy’s words, the scholar slightly lowered his head and said without hesitation.
He clearly understood this Captain’s temperament. In that unfair transaction, she had virtually stripped away all the benefits that should have belonged to him, even what was originally his. This dragon egg, no, this young dragon was naturally also one of the terms of the deal.

“Dietary requirements, dietary requirements, more dietary requirements…”
Roy’s expression suddenly turned unpleasant. She turned and walked toward the door, and hearing her muttering, Caine, following behind her, also revealed a trace of discomfort.
Leaving the room, before Caine closed the wooden door, Roy slightly turned her head, looking at the scholar who was still lowering his head, and asked with a light laugh: “By the way, I suddenly remembered one more question I haven’t asked you.”
“Bivis, although you were born in Auran and favored by the emperor, with the honor of sailing on the Victoria with nobility, I wonder, if you weren’t a core figure of the empire, or personally experienced it, how could you know such a major scandal in such detail?”
“Besides that, there’s the Lady’s crystal ball, her lies to those captains… all of this, how did you come to understand it? Can you explain this to me, Scholar?”
Looking at the scholar who remained silent as if he hadn’t heard anything, Roy’s smile gradually cooled. After leaving a detached remark, the wooden door was firmly closed.
“Be smarter, Bivis Green.”
