Captain – Chapter 253 – The Governor’s Intentions
Captain – Chapter 253 – The Governor’s Intentions
The gentle sound of flowing water came from afar, reaching that magnificent mansion. But this time, there were no bright lights, elegant music, or elite guests raising glasses together—only a different kind of stillness and solitude.
At the front door of the mansion, the old butler stooped, holding up a lantern to illuminate a small patch of darkness ahead, allowing the mansion’s owner to clearly see the approaching visitor.
Footsteps echoed from a distance, resonating under the quiet night sky.
As they drew closer and clearer, the shadows beneath the paulownia trees planted along the road twisted and shifted, as if some terrifying specter lurked in the pitch-black darkness.
Finally, the footsteps ceased. A person dressed as a servant appeared in the lamplight, lowering his head and bowing deeply to the man who had been gazing absently at the starless night sky.
“My lord.”
Hearing that somewhat hoarse call, Robert withdrew his gaze and looked at the servant, asking calmly, “How is it? Has everything been arranged?”
“Yes, my lord.”
Tomb Bat raised his head slightly, revealing those eerie purple pupils among his hair: “Colonel Berney is escorting the carriage along the planned route. If all goes well, in another three or four days, they will reach Morton Prison. According to our scouts’ reports, Captain Roy is cooperating and hasn’t attempted to escape.”
“Very good.”

The man nodded slightly, then asked, “Has there been any response from St. Caloie regarding this matter?”
“There doesn’t seem to be any, my lord.”
Tomb Bat responded hoarsely, then added, “But not long ago, I received a letter from Earl Heller. In his letter, he mentioned that about a month ago, a carriage entered the palace. Judging by the guards’ level of vigilance, it must have carried a royal guest.”
Hearing this, Robert raised an eyebrow and asked, “Was there something unusual about that carriage?”
Carriages entering the palace were common, and guests visiting the Emperor or the princes and princesses were not surprising. But since Tomb Bat had mentioned it so solemnly, there must have been something unusual about that carriage, or rather, its passenger.
“The Earl said he personally saw dark golden raven feather patterns on the carriage’s body, which is the organization’s distinctive emblem. Therefore, he suspects that the passenger in that carriage was a member of our organization.”
Hearing this, the man finally showed interest and asked, “And… your answer?”
“Yes, that was indeed an organization carriage.”
The servant’s gaze flickered intensely, reflecting some surprise.

Even though many days had passed, when he recalled the description of that carriage in the letter, he still couldn’t suppress his shock.
“But as you know, the organization is seen as a thorn in the empire’s side, and core members face dire consequences if discovered. Under such circumstances, who would be tactless enough to create such a carriage, seemingly to advertise their identity?”
After these words, Tomb Bat fell into a long silence.
Hearing the servant’s rhetorical question, Robert narrowed his eyes, as if he had already guessed a possibility, but he remained silent and patiently waited for the other’s final answer.
“The Founder, it could only be the Founder.”
After some time, the servant finally spoke slowly, his tone no longer holding past madness and wildness, but becoming extremely grave.
Because those three simple words represented a figure who could be called great.
The Founder of the Black Raven Society.
“If it’s really her, then it makes sense.”
What surprised Tomb Bat even more was the man’s rather calm reaction and the familiar tone, as if that mysterious Founder held no secrets in his eyes.

So the servant couldn’t help but ask, “My lord, you know the Founder?”
“You could say that, after all… I was also involved in that affair.”
A hint of nostalgia flashed in Robert’s eyes, but quickly turned to indifference: “Don’t worry about her. Although I’m not clear what she’s thinking, opposing our great plan like this, she can’t change anything. All fates were determined sixteen years ago.”
Although he didn’t understand what the Governor was referring to, Tomb Bat respectfully acknowledged and then continued his report: “Besides Earl Heller’s letter, I’ve also received more important intelligence from our spies in Elvet—that imperial assassins infiltrated the city, eliminating most of our informants, all for the purpose of…”
“Secretly escorting Governor Naren out of the city.”
Hearing the servant’s words, Robert was silent for a moment, then asked, “And then? What was their destination?”
“Because imperial assassins accompanied them, and the route was extremely remote, our people couldn’t initially determine their exact whereabouts. We only knew that the carriage carrying Governor Naren kept moving westward.”
“Fortunately, in a city called Colent, our organization’s scouts spotted a carriage matching the description in our intelligence. They witnessed it driving into an estate south of the city, which is property of the Garcia family.”
Pausing briefly, Tomb Bat looked up at the Governor and said in a near whisper, “Currently, its owner should be Federo Garcia.”

Hearing that name, Robert was silent for a long time before saying calmly, “It seems my old friend, though he’s stepped down from his position as Governor and dealt me a severe blow, still refuses to stay out of this… But that’s fine. Since Naren has left Elvet, the method to win this game becomes much simpler.”
“Tomb Bat, go investigate the defensive forces of that estate.”
Receiving the order, the servant didn’t leave immediately, but asked with some hesitation, “My lord, do you intend to move against them? But our plan…”
“The plan will proceed as normal, of course.”
Robert said quietly, “But if the final result doesn’t satisfy me, then naturally we’ll need to use every means to eliminate obstacles.”
Understanding the Governor’s intentions, seemingly able to envision the estate turning into a sea of fire and crimson blood staining the rice fields, Tomb Bat’s deep purple eyes surged with madness and excitement. He bowed deeply, saying respectfully and humbly, “I understand, my lord.”
“Wait.”
Stopping the servant who was straightening up and preparing to leave, Robert’s gaze slowly swept across the shadows cast by the paulownia trees: “Take them with you. If the situation changes, or if an opportunity arises, you may act without hesitation, even without my order.”
“Although the death of a sitting Governor and a Duke would be the worst outcome… it’s still far better than gaining nothing at all.”
