Captain – Chapter 469 – She’s in a Dream
Captain – Chapter 469 – She’s in a Dream
It didn’t sound like a question, but more like… a notification.
This was what Caine felt when facing those blazing golden eyes and that emotionless question.
Captain… you’ve forgotten me?
For some reason, once this thought emerged, it couldn’t be suppressed. The first mate stared blankly at the girl before him, once intimate but suddenly containing something unfamiliar, and for a long time he couldn’t regain his composure.
Until she collapsed with a “thud” onto the soft, thick bedding.
Hearing the girl’s deep breathing, Caine awoke as if from a dream. As he watched her relaxed profile, shadows suddenly surged in his usually calm eyes, like an ocean covered by dark clouds.
His breathing gradually grew heavier as the first mate seemed to see again that fiercely burning fire that had devoured everything beautiful, and to feel that profound helplessness and despair.
After more than a decade, it seemed to have returned, threatening to snatch another angel from his side.
Although he was different from his past self, no longer a powerless child, when facing mysterious forces beyond ordinary logic, he could still only watch, unable to do anything.
Like stripping away the facade of a fairy tale, cold reality would not change because of anyone’s unwillingness.
It was truly unfair.
“Creak.”
Just as the temperature in the captain’s cabin dropped to freezing and the atmosphere became so heavy it seemed to smother all sound, the door opened.
Caine turned his head somewhat stiffly, his face slightly pale, no longer as calm as usual. With cold sweat sliding down from his forehead across his cheeks, he looked exactly like someone who had lost everything they loved to a natural disaster, left with nothing.

He looked exactly like that child standing in the rain, watching the fire, more than a decade ago.
The one who opened the door was Siren, but she didn’t enter. She just stood quietly at the doorway. The cat she was holding, however, leaped from her arms, landing on the floor without a sound.
With elegant steps, the Siamese cat approached the bed, jumping lightly to land beside the two, then looked toward the raven and young dragon nearby, who didn’t dare breathe, and called out without courtesy.
“Meow.”
Somehow, although it was just a monotonous sound, Caine seemed to understand. It was telling them to leave.
Without protest or noise, the two little creatures just exchanged a glance before flying out of the room together, landing behind Siren, looking back inside pitifully, quite like those who had been driven from their home.
Seeing this, Caine frowned and cast a questioning look at Siren.
The sea creature still showed no intention of entering, only returning a “can’t help it” look, slightly bowing her head to show apology, before gently closing the door at the cat’s impatient urging.
So, only two people and one cat remained in the room…
A strange cat.
Meeting the first mate’s “puzzled” gaze, the Siamese cat circled around the sleeping captain, sniffing here, touching there, and even glancing toward the bow, before finally settling down.
Or rather, finally determining the situation.
Whether it was an illusion or not, Caine felt that at that moment, this cat seemed to sigh in a very “human-like” way, with a reluctant expression that looked exactly like a sailor who didn’t want to work overtime.

“Can you… help her?”
Suppressing the absurd feeling in his heart, the first mate reached out to touch the cat, asking somewhat hoarsely.
Seemingly unaccustomed to being touched by strangers, the Siamese cat’s whole body trembled and jumped a short distance away, turning to glare at this “impolite” mortal, as if it might bristle at any moment.
But seeing his anxious, pitiful state, the cat’s raised eyebrows slowly drooped.
“Meow?”
Hearing the cat’s questioning call, the first mate nodded somewhat awkwardly, responding: “Yes, I don’t know why, but she’s forgotten me, no, it’s more like she’s never seen me before.”
As if in her world, he had never existed.
Receiving this answer that it had already guessed, the Siamese cat’s eyebrows drooped even lower. Although it knew what was happening, explaining it clearly would require quite some effort.
Although, it would only need to make one sound to convey all the information, but who knew how much this… weak being before it could understand.
Forget it, the cat wasn’t going to do this hard work. Let the professionals handle it.
“Meow.”
The Siamese cat licked its paw, smoothing the fur on its face, while making an emotionless call.
“You’re saying she lost me?”

The first mate tried hard to understand the cat’s “concise,” or rather, perfunctory explanation, saying in confusion: “So, I need to find her, but isn’t the captain…”
Looking at the sleeping girl, Caine paused, withdrawing his question, and murmured thoughtfully: “She’s in a dream?”
“Meow.”
Somewhat satisfied with the first mate’s comprehension, the cat sat up straight, putting down its paw, and called affirmatively to him.
The feeling was strange.
After hearing the cat’s seemingly nonsensical explanation, although Caine couldn’t fully understand Roy’s situation, he vaguely sensed that dream, that completely inexplicable world.
She was in that world, but she didn’t seem trapped, rather wandering aimlessly within it.
He quietly sensed it for a while, until that feeling gradually became distant and he could no longer see the vague silhouette of that dream. The first mate then came to his senses, took a deep breath, and earnestly asked:
“I can roughly understand what you mean, but if she’s in that dream, how can I find her?”
Dreams and reality are like two sides of a mirror, completely opposite yet corresponding in every way. You might be able to see what’s inside through the mirror’s surface, but that doesn’t mean you can touch it.
Furthermore, that dream was not a dream in the true sense, but a world unique to the girl.
Seeing that the other party had gradually accepted the abnormality of “communicating with a cat,” the cat was somewhat appreciative of his adaptability. But upon hearing this “meaningless” question, its eyes again filled with helplessness, feeling that compared to the sleeping girl, his comprehension was really too low.
Well, after all, he was just a mortal who had never experienced “grand scenes.”

“Meow.”
Looking up, the Siamese cat stared into the young man’s eyes, lazily calling out, saying since you’ve already discovered that she’s in that strange dream right now, then to find her…
Of course, you need to go into the dream, silly.
Those gorgeous, deep blue eyes were like the mirror connecting the dream and the real world. Through them, Caine saw that world, saw the lightless sea under the heavy rain, and another Mermaid rising and falling on the sea surface, yet steadfastly sailing forward.
That was also a dream, but it seemed different from hers.
Sound, physical sensations, all perceptions were gradually disappearing. In the end, in Caine’s vision, only the world within those blue eyes remained, becoming increasingly clear and real.
The Mermaid on that sea kept expanding in his eyes until he could clearly see the scene on deck, see the pirates patrolling against the wind and rain, see them saluting him.
“First Mate, it’s so late, why haven’t you returned to your room yet?”
The crew’s concerned inquiries sounded in his ears, as real as the cold rain hitting his face.
“Meow.”
Vaguely, Caine still heard a cat’s meow. It said of course it’s different, because this is…
Your dream.
