Captain – Chapter 475 – A Miraculous Intersection

“Where did you find that thing?”

The ancient pocket watch faced away from the sea, swaying gently in the ocean breeze. Its body was covered with scars and pits etched by time. Even in sunlight, not a trace of metallic luster could be seen.

It really looked like a piece of junk.

Roy held the rusty metal chain connected to the watch, staring at it hanging before her eyes, lost in thought until she was jolted back to awareness by the devil’s puzzling question.

“I don’t know.”

After giving this perfunctory reply, the young woman thought for a moment and added, “By all rights, this thing should have been in my outer coat, but for some reason I suddenly wanted it, and it just appeared in my hand.”

“Is that strange?”

Discreetly putting away the watch and fastening the chain to her belt, Roy stood up from the beach, brushing sand from her pants. She looked up at the blue sky as if there were a pair of blazing golden eyes fixed upon her. “In this place, I can already make things happen just by thinking about them.”

“Not strange, of course not strange.”

The devil’s tone remained characteristically flippant, seemingly unconcerned about the watch as he naturally changed the subject. “Child, I’m just curious why you’re still lingering on this lonely island.”

“Do you perhaps believe that as long as you remain in one place, the wheel of fate will not turn?”

Casting a sidelong glance at her unseen ancestor, Roy looked back at the sparkling sea under the clear sky, which resembled an ocean scattered with gold coins. She responded listlessly, “What a cheap attempt to provoke me.”

Hearing the light laughter drifting from the horizon, the captain, though disliking and even hating this convenient ancestor, considered that he was at least her only audience these past few days. She decided to speak without touching on sensitive matters: “I just thought that since I want to remember him…”

“The best method would be to retrace our steps exactly as we walked them together.”

Events had proven that due to certain changes in the threads of fate, the trajectory of things had also changed somewhat.

Besides not finding that blank space in her memory on this deserted island, the “unidentified” raven that should have flown back to her was nowhere to be seen.

However, the storm had arrived as expected, drenching her as she sat motionless on the beach.

Having received an answer, the devil’s voice faded away again. Roy idly tossed pebbles into the sea, wondering if that unfortunate merchant ship would still pass by here.

According to her memory, it should…

The young woman’s somewhat unfocused eyes suddenly sharpened. Thanks to the enhanced perception granted by her power, she could visualize the scenery within a hundred nautical miles around the island in her mind.

She could also “see” that merchant ship slowly sailing toward them.

“Finally, it’s here.”

Seeing that the course of this dream had not completely changed despite that person’s disappearance, Roy finally felt at ease. This at least indicated that there would be traces to follow when searching for his identity.

After waiting another half day, when the merchant ship was close enough to the island, the captain followed her memory, building a “rescue bonfire” exactly as before, then waving and shouting in that direction.

Sure enough, after discovering the young woman, the ship approached the island.

As the merchant ship dropped anchor, Roy leaped into the sea like a cheetah. In less than a minute, she had climbed onto the ship’s railing, scanning everyone on deck like a predator surveying prey, her gaze finally settling on the corpulent captain who was continuously wiping away cold sweat.

“If I’m not mistaken, you’re the captain of this ship?”

Before the familiar-looking yet unnameable fat captain could speak, the young woman flashed her signature smile, patted his shoulder, and jumped onto the deck while delivering a simplified version of her declaration.

“From now on, this ship belongs to me.”

A pirate seizing a ship, old sailors resisting, the fat captain waving his hands in protest—everything unfolded as expected, except without a mediator present. The merchant ship sailed away amid this chaotic atmosphere.

But before its silhouette completely vanished in the distance, another person emerged on the island’s beach.

“I missed it…”

Watching the merchant ship recede into the distance, becoming a small dot on the azure sea, Caine breathed heavily with agitation, muttering with considerable distress.

“Meow.” The cat expressed its regret.

After that passionate kiss ended, the first mate’s consciousness had been cut off by the encroaching fog, falling into a sleep-like state. When he awoke, he found himself on the island.

He was lying in the exact spot where the captain had once said she “picked him up.”

After forcing himself to rise despite a headache, guided by the Siamese cat that had reappeared beside him, the young man learned that although this was still his dream, for unknown reasons, it had intersected with the young woman’s world at the edges, without any medium.

This meant there was an extremely slim chance he could share the same page of the storybook with Roy.

This was certainly a great delight amid so much bad news.

The cat, pondering this fruitlessly, could only attribute this inexplicable phenomenon to a miracle that even deities would find hard to predict. It agreed with the dream captain’s reasoning, confirming that the pocket watch was now in Roy’s possession.

“What a restless creature.”

This was the cat’s assessment of the “hyperactive” young woman after clarifying the situation and informing Caine.

While the first mate was digesting the information contained in the cat’s meows, the cat spoke again at an inopportune moment, though this time it was kindly alerting him that a ship had just passed nearby.

Gazing at the merchant ship that had passed the western coast, Caine immediately recalled it from his memory and hurriedly picked up the cat, rushing toward the beach where they had originally boarded.

But as it now appeared, he had still missed it.

The young man instinctively loosened his grip, and the cat drifted down like a dandelion seed, landing perfectly without a sound. It looked up at him and meowed consolingly, though the content was…

Don’t worry, we can build a boat ourselves and row back.

Hearing this, Caine’s body stiffened, but he quickly recovered as if struck by a thought. Looking down to meet the cat’s gaze, he asked hopefully, “Can you conjure a boat?”

“It doesn’t need to be fancy, just a single-masted sailboat would do.”

In this dream world, there was no need to worry about hunger or safety. The first mate could even clearly sense that he could stay underwater for a year without breathing, as if he had transformed into a Death-Fearer.

But the problem was, his powers ended there.

If he wanted to go from here to Frans Island, although he could swim day and night, resting whenever he tired, his speed would depend entirely on his own abilities, without any miraculous thousand-mile-a-day scenarios.

Who knew when he would reach his destination.

No wonder Isaac the leader had said that their journey as visitors in the dream resembled treading water in place.

However, if self-reliance was the only option, having a single-masted sailboat would obviously be more convenient and faster than swimming the long journey… and more dignified too.

But the cat’s answer would ultimately disappoint him.

“Meow.”

The cat flatly denied having such ability, and took the opportunity to correct its earlier minor error, changing “we” to “you” and revising “boat” to…

“Raft.”

What the cat had meant was that he could build a raft himself and row back.
