Captain – Chapter 700 – Meeting and Parting
Captain – Chapter 700 – Meeting and Parting
In the ship within a ship, before the broken stairs leading to the “gateway.”
Caine still sat quietly upon them, his gaze following the stairway down toward the direction of the fog sea.
His posture and expression had remained unchanged from beginning to end, still nothing more than silent waiting.
Only after seeing the cat leap into the whirlpool, before its form completely disappeared within, after that warm gaze like a farewell, his already suppressed mood became even heavier.
Thus the waiting seemed even more tedious and long.
Until at a certain moment, the dim gray reflected in his blue eyes rapidly darkened, perhaps only in the span of a blink, completely receding like a tide.
Giving the feeling that it had gone to another world.
Therefore in an instant, the scene in Caine’s eyes transformed from chaotic disorder back to pitch black, the same black as the surrounding environment, as if the gateway and the world beyond it no longer existed.
Once again merging with reality.
Precisely because of this, the broken stairs that had originally been swallowed by the eerie fog extended downward, visibly connecting to the lower deck, and even faint footsteps could be heard from the far side.
Slightly stunned, after coming to his senses he lightly rubbed his eyes, and after confirming what he saw was not an illusion, the young man slowly stood up, descended a few steps, and came to the front of that deck level.
Then he turned to look toward the gangway on the other side, because the sounds came from there.
Though the environment within the ship’s cabin remained dim, without the fog obstruction, relying on his exceptional eyesight, Caine could see that scene very clearly.
And just as he descended to this level and stopped to look into the distance, a human figure appeared at the end of the corridor, one person climbing the stairs, meeting his gaze from afar.

Perhaps due to emotion, that person’s form paused for a moment, then stepped forward.
Bound by an indescribable connection, the young man immediately knew that the one approaching him was the captain. While breathing a sigh of relief, he also became somewhat nervous upon noticing something.
His form that had originally intended to go forward also instinctively stopped, as if wanting to make more preparations.
Because at the moment that slender approaching figure appeared and paused, the footsteps from that side did not cease, naturally indicating certain things.
It revealed that Roy’s outcome from this journey was sufficiently complete.
And just as the first mate thought, sure enough, not long after that slender figure walked toward him, another figure appeared at the end, and without guessing he knew the identity.
Soon, the two came before Caine one after the other.
After lightly nodding to her first mate, indicating she was unharmed, Roy stepped aside to clear the path, slightly raising her hand toward the approaching man, introducing: “This is…”
Looking at the man who had returned to the present world and was slightly uncomfortable, as well as his somewhat awkward and expectant expression upon hearing these words, the girl paused before saying.
“My old man.”
Though there was no further explanation, Caine naturally knew that the person before him was the one who had gazed at him across the sea, the previous generation’s Golden-Eyed Devil, his father’s destined enemy.
Captain Gerard Roy.
He should also be called… his father-in-law?
Only this father-in-law had never witnessed his companionship, understanding, and love with the girl, and only appeared after the two had married, knowing nothing of these matters.

And this was also the reason Caine had stopped and felt nervous earlier.
Not knowing how to interact was one aspect, but he was more worried whether the other could accept him.
Though at the wedding banquet in Providence, he had already experienced dealing with the girl’s elders, Gerard Roy was different no matter what.
Whether due to bloodline or status.
Of course, Roy didn’t know of her first mate’s nervousness, or rather hadn’t thought of this aspect at all, still introducing them to each other, only more detailed than before.
After all, from the beginning, Caine knew who their purpose was to rescue on this journey, and as Naren’s son, it was impossible he wouldn’t know about her father, so there was no need to say much. But if it were the reverse, that would be completely different.
In her thinking, though her old man, because of being absent from her life, had no voice in her marriage and choices, shouldn’t even have the right to comment.
But at least he still needed to know and take the proper stance.
“As for this one, he’s Master Caine Howard, which is to say Governor Naren’s child. Yes, I’m talking about the one who never saw eye to eye with you.”
Hearing this, the man finally shifted his gaze from the girl to fall upon Caine, sizing him up slightly, with quite a lot of sentiment in his expression and eyes.
Though he didn’t know when that fellow had become a governor, he naturally remembered Naren.
Those days when he and that man were separated by heaven and earth, yet constantly competing openly and secretly, looking back now, were also extremely exciting.
It wasn’t until after fighting that battle with Auran, with that Imperial Lion that could be recorded in history, that this decades-spanning confrontation finally ended with his victory.

Only…
Though it seemed like merely the blink of an eye, how many years had passed since that battle now?
The vicissitudes of time were just like this.
Only the man’s sentimental feelings hadn’t had time to spread before they suddenly froze, along with his expression stiffening, staring at the young man in bewilderment for a moment.
Because after finishing about the first mate’s family background, Roy immediately threw out his identity.
“Don’t underestimate him. Caine used to be an Admiral and Naval Commander of the Empire like Governor Naren, and now he’s my first mate and…”
“Husband.”
As the girl’s words fell, the already quiet corridor suddenly became even more silent.
Looking at the two who remained silent, gazing at each other as if not knowing how to interact, Roy raised an eyebrow, somewhat puzzled, because no matter how complex or intense their emotions.
At least on the surface, they were impeccably calm and polite.
This silence lasted for a long time.
Until the girl could bear it no more and asked, “I say, why don’t you two shake hands,” the two who had been quiet as statues suddenly awakened and awkwardly shook hands.
Only then did Roy sense some of the special meaning this meeting carried, guessing why they were unnatural, and didn’t force them to continue.
Thinking that after spending time together they would naturally get used to it, she planned to take the two and leave first.

Though the eerie fog here had completely receded and her perception was no longer obstructed, knowing that the “Drowned Captain” in every sense no longer existed and the external situation was gradually stabilizing, everyone still needed to see them appear to feel at ease.
And there were probably quite a few matters to handle.
Regarding the girl’s suggestion, the two had no objections, but before setting off, Caine still looked back at the gangway on the other side, then looked toward the girl’s back.
After hesitating for a moment, he still couldn’t help calling out to her, asking: “Captain, what about Mango?”
“How come… it didn’t come back with you two?”
Hearing this, Roy’s form couldn’t help but freeze.
Though she didn’t turn around, the first mate could still see that she slightly lowered her head.
After being quiet for a while, the girl’s calm voice, yet still unable to suppress her dejection, finally sounded.
“We’ll talk when we get back.”
Such simple words, yet in an instant, Caine understood everything.
Remembering the cat’s unprecedented gaze before parting, warmer than spring wind, thinking of all they had experienced together, the young man’s gaze couldn’t help but darken somewhat.
He didn’t ask more, only before leaving, looked once more toward the gangway at that end.
Silently bidding it farewell.
