Captain – Chapter 90 – Causing Trouble

“Are you even listening to what I’m saying, Captain?”

Hearing her first mate’s increasingly impatient voice, Roy reluctantly tore her gaze away from the dancers exposing large patches of fair skin and chuckled, trying to appease him: “I’m listening, I’m listening. Where were we just now?”

Sighing helplessly, Caine picked up the crystal glass filled with black rum and took a gulp, only to be choked by the extremely strong beverage, coughing several times as his face reddened considerably.

Roy reached over to take the glass from the young man’s hand, drained the remaining liquor in one go, then poured the prepared coconut juice and pushed it back in front of him: “I told you that you wouldn’t be used to it. There’s no alcohol with a lower proof than this in the Banshee’s Eye, so you’d better just drink juice.”

“How could anyone consider such inferior alcohol a treasure?”

Looking at the transparent white liquid swirling in the stemmed glass and hearing the captain’s slightly teasing tone, the first mate felt the burning sensation in his throat intensify.

“Can’t be helped. Pirates can’t compare to the imperial navy after all. For us, cheap strong liquor is the best luxury we can enjoy.”

Roy picked up a nearby bottle of rum, tilted her head back and downed half the bottle in one go, her complexion only slightly flushed: “Let’s continue our previous topic.”

It was just me talking to myself earlier, wasn’t it?

After silently complaining to himself, Caine used the coconut juice to dampen the impact of the rum, then spoke expressionlessly: “What I asked you earlier was, how long are we going to sit here?”

Since entering the hall, the first mate had felt many undisguised stares, though most were directed at the young woman across the table.

In a place full of thugs and criminals, Roy’s stunning beauty could easily attract trouble.

Although the captain had repeatedly emphasized that no one would dare cause trouble in the Banshee’s Eye, the desire and greed-filled gazes from others still made Caine uncomfortable.

“Well, having finally returned after so long, we should relax a bit, shouldn’t we?”

Seeing that her first mate maintained his stern expression, and knowing that someone from a noble family like him would abhor such a place, Roy sighed softly, feeling that truly transforming him into a pirate would be a long and difficult task.

“Alright, alright, let’s get down to business.”

Seeing the captain put away her casual demeanor, Caine’s expression softened slightly. He leaned forward with his arms on the table, sitting up straight: “According to what you said earlier, we’re here to find the proprietress, but I’ve observed our surroundings and haven’t found a lady matching your description.”

Typically, a tavern’s proprietress would oversee the counter, lending a hand when shorthanded, or handling unexpected incidents. That’s why the young man had assumed she would appear in the hall full of customers.

But after looking around, he frustratingly discovered that the Banshee’s Eye had no shortage of serving staff, and it seemed unlikely that anyone would be foolish enough to cause trouble in front of those burly men maintaining order.

Most importantly, there wasn’t anything like a counter in the entire hall, so naturally there would be no red-haired woman sitting behind one.

“Of course not. Little Cecilia is my woman—how could I let those bastards feast their eyes on her?”

Roy leaned back against the soft chair, her face showing an expression of complete certainty: “So unless there are distinguished guests visiting, she’s usually in her room doing accounts, or downstairs conducting business. Why would she appear in a place like this?”

“If that’s the case, how do we find her? Go up to the second floor?” Caine frowned slightly, asking cautiously.

“Don’t joke. To go up to the second floor, you either need to show your status—of course, that’s status among pirates, Imperial and Federation officials have no value here—or you need to throw around enough gold and silver until Little Cecilia is willing to see you.”

Roy wagged her finger, continuing: “News of my death has spread throughout Yadris. It’s impossible to make the guards watching the stairs believe or recognize my identity. As for throwing money…”

“Oh, selling me wouldn’t be enough to fill that girl’s heart.”

“So you’re saying we don’t have the qualifications to see the proprietress?” Caine’s face darkened, instinctively believing that the captain’s trip was merely for enjoyment, and anything more would have to wait for another day.

Guessing what her first mate was thinking, Roy nodded, then shook her head: “You’re right, now that our positions are reversed, I indeed don’t have the qualifications to see her. But that doesn’t mean I don’t have a way to make her appear.”

“And once I can see Little Cecilia, she’ll definitely recognize me.”

Hearing the captain’s confident statement, Caine raised his eyebrows slightly, unable to imagine what method she could use to make the proprietress appear, so he asked puzzledly: “What method?”

“Cause trouble.”

After silently mouthing these two words, Caine’s eyebrows rose even higher: “Cause trouble?”

“Lower your voice! Do you want everyone to know?” Roy glared at him, complaining.

Realizing he had lost his composure, Caine lowered his eyebrows and simultaneously lowered his voice to ask: “But how can you be sure she’ll come to handle such a matter? Those guards aren’t just for show.”

“Simple. We just knock them all down.”

The captain’s thought process was always so simple and brutal, so direct that it was somewhat difficult for her first mate to accept.

“This… I suppose that counts as a solution.”

Caine responded weakly, then followed her train of thought: “So, dear captain, how do we attract those guards’ attention, then take care of all of them?”

“That’s even simpler. I have a few plans; see which one seems more feasible.”

At this point, Roy suddenly became excited: “One way is to dine and dash. We’ll order plenty of food and drink, enjoy ourselves thoroughly, then refuse to pay when the bill comes. Those guards will definitely come to teach us a lesson, and then we can use the opportunity to escalate the situation.”

You just want to eat and drink for free, don’t you?

Caine thought silently, feeling this was truly undignified. Covering his forehead with his hand, he asked: “What else?”

“Uh, isn’t that good? Fine, I’ll tell you the second option—stirring up trouble. We find a table of people we don’t like the look of, knock them down first, and then those guards…”

Knowing the captain was about to repeat her previous words, Caine raised his hand to interrupt her, smiling bitterly: “Do we have a third option?”

After pondering long and hard, Roy shrugged: “I don’t think there’s—”

Before the young woman could finish that word “is,” her dark golden eyes suddenly flashed, reflecting a burly man who had risen from his seat not far away and was walking toward the two of them. A smile of particular interest spread across her face.

“No, it seems someone is coming to us.”
