Chapter 559: Himekoji Midori Yuigahama
Yuigahama and Hikigaya arrived that afternoon.
When Himekoji and Yukinoshita stood side by side at the genkan welcoming them, it really gave off an old married couple vibe.
Seeing this, Yuigahama and Hikigaya paused for a split second.
Seemingly affected by this atmosphere, Yuigahama barely breathed after entering the living room. Her face held a mix of awkwardness and reverence, like a pilgrim, as she carefully looked around the room.
Hikigaya, too, found himself tiptoeing alongside her, talking softly and feeling terribly awkward.
Finally unable to bear it, Hikigaya rolled his trademark Dead Fish Eyes. He looked utterly frustrated at Yuigahama – even though, in this version, he lacked that ‘equipment’.
“Hey, Yuigahama, what are you doing? Can’t you act normal?”
“You should be the one acting right, Hikki! Show some respect! This is the actual love nest, the couple’s pad, the marital home of a real couple!”
“Are you telling me I should have brought torches?” If needed, Hikigaya was quite willing to.
“I’m telling you you need a learning attitude!”
“Learning won’t get me a boyfriend,” Hikigaya retorted, curling his lip scornfully.
The remark left Yuigahama speechless for a moment, but then she glared back indignantly.
Hmph! Hikki is the worst! He always says the most uncomfortable things!
Hikigaya didn’t back down either. The two stood there staring each other down.
Yukinoshita, as the host, hadn’t expected this. Rubbing her temple with a sigh, she stepped forward helplessly to calm things down.
Himekoji, however, found it all amusing from behind them. It confirmed a chemical equation in his mind—
Yup, just add a couple to a small amount of a single person in the Service Club, and the lonely dog rapidly dissolves with bubbling and a dropping pH…ha ha ha…
Himekoji secretly chuckled.
Yuigahama got angry quickly but calmed down just as fast. Before long, with Yukinoshita skillfully changing the subject, she was beaming happily again.
“Eh?! Yukino-chan, you guys are wearing matching T-shirts?! Hey, isn’t this the design we bought together last time?”
Yukinoshita nodded gently.
“Oh! I just happen to be wearing mine today too! Ta-da!” Yuigahama provided her own sound effects as she suddenly peeled off her jacket. Her T-shirt underneath was identical to the one Himekoji was wearing – and naturally, also matched Yukinoshita’s.
Himekoji looked down at himself, then back at Yuigahama. Matching couple shirts with a different person… Why did he suddenly feel so weird all over?
Yuigahama turned and pointed at him, laughing, “Akito, I bought this matching set with Yukino-chan first!”
“Heh, heh…” Himekoji offered a polite, strained chuckle.
Thought: No wonder Yukinoshita only bought his shirt when they got their matching sets! He should have guessed something was off back then!
Yukinoshita then took Yuigahama to see their shared bathroom.
“Wow! Yukino-chan, aren’t these the matching toothbrushes we bought last time?! Akito uses the same kind?” Before the words had even settled, the sharp-eyed Yuigahama spotted something else. Excited, she bounced on her toes, pointing at towels. “Matching towels! I have these too!”
“See, Akito!”
Afraid he might not believe her, Yuigahama pulled out her phone, found a picture, and shoved it right under his nose.
Then followed—
Matching teacups, matching pillows, matching scarves, matching phone cases, matching…sanitary pads…
Apart from that last one, which Himekoji didn’t use, everything else was a perfect match to what Yuigahama had!
“Oh yeah! Matching underwear too!” Yuigahama pointed at the small pieces of fabric drying on the balcony, her face flushed bright red like an apple.
She started to pull off her T-shirt again to show Himekoji.
“No need! I believe you, okay? I believe you!” Himekoji rushed forward and grabbed her hands to stop her.
His face looked miserable.
Seriously, Yukinoshita! What mess is this?!
He had felt happy and sweet seeing how eagerly Yukinoshita picked these couple items with him initially. But now, Yuigahama had brutally unveiled the reality, giving him an incredibly awkward, strange, and indescribable feeling!
Jealous?
Probably not, since both Yukinoshita and Yuigahama were lovely girls.
But something just felt… wrong!
“Feeling green and bothered,” Himekoji muttered out of sheer frustration.
Hikigaya overheard it and gleefully decided to twist the knife. He patted Himekoji’s shoulder meaningfully. “Yuigahama was first.”
Himekoji turned a gloomy, silent stare towards Hikigaya, wordlessly expressing his annoyance.
Hikigaya looked even happier. “Don’t you get it? When Yukinoshita got with you, someone else was already in her heart! Strictly speaking, you are the one who did Yuigahama dirty! Remember this, young man: green others, be green forever. Yesterday you tricked Yuigahama green, tomorrow Yuigahama tricks you green.”
After delivering his line, Hikigaya stretched lazily, looking refreshed. His Dead Fish Eyes even seemed sharper. Proudly lifting his smooth chin, he strolled right past Himekoji.
“Stirring up trouble! Just you wait!” Seeing Hikigaya’s back turned, Himekoji immediately shot him a furious middle finger.
…
Finally, after rummaging through practically everything else they could find to compare matching items, Yuigahama sat down on the couch, satisfied and calm.
She looked at Yukinoshita, then at Himekoji, finally unable to hold back a happy giggle. “Triple matching T-shirts!”
Yukinoshita gently tucked her hair behind her ear and agreed, “Indeed.”
Yuigahama then fixated on Hikigaya, missing a matching shirt. “Hikki, why not buy one too? As the official Service Club activity T-shirt!”
“No! Absolutely not!” Hikigaya shook his head violently like a rattle drum.
Himekoji understood his feeling completely.
This is the pitiful pride and stubborn self-protectiveness of a lonely dog!
“Oh right! To celebrate you two moving in together, I brought a present!” Yuigahama remembered and clapped her hands, turning to pull something from her bag.
Hikigaya froze at this.
His face instantly stiffened, silently cursing Yuigahama for playing dirty – preparing a gift without even discussing it with him!
He hadn’t brought anything! Now he looked like a jerk!
Oh well, the great, aloof Hikigaya doesn’t care what others think! Why get gifts for something as minor as moving in together? What next? Run off to give gifts every time people hold hands for the first time, hug for the first time, kiss for the first time, do…it for the first time, get pregnant for the first time?
Tch! Naive! Stupid! Idiotic! It’s all just tricks by gift shops to make money!
Wait… since Himekoji and Yukinoshita moved in together… does that mean they’ve already done everything except get pregnant?
Just thinking about it made Hikigaya’s expression shift, the world suddenly seeming a terrifying place.
Too terrifying!
